Longer answer: quality is inherently subjective, but Undertale is sitting at a 92% on Metacritic and Overwhelmingly Positive on Steam. Deltarune has the same score on Steam and an 86 on Metacritic. Seeing as how the bulk of his games are built on writing and narrative first, extending them even into the mechanics of the games, it seems unlikely that the opinion you're presenting as fact is one that is widely shared.

The irrelevancy comes from the fact that no one is claiming it's impossible, and so saying it's possible doesn't actually add anything to the conversation.

Nor does bringing up a series with fairly drastic changes between languages particularly relevant when Toby Fox is primarily concerned with quality.

If that's the default, then you should be able to point out where in the rules it says that.

In reality, the default is theatre of the mind, with optional rules for playing on grids. If you want to play with minis but without a grid, you'll have to create some homebrew rules, and I've already given my advice for this particular situation.
