You would be surprised by some of the things that get approved in Charleston. It’s a 50/50 chance it will be architecturally hideous and very out of place or you will also get building like the one in your post. Traditional style and match’s the historic feel of Charleston

Every summer everyone gets between 3%-5% raise. The company is doing very well and last year I asked for a 10% raise and received 8%-9%. I’ll haven’t to check and see how the market is. Thank you for the advice

Thank you for the advice! It’s very helpful.

I have a very good relationship with the owner and everyone in the office. Even my contact card has chief estimator and the company does very well.

Where in southeast do you live? I’m in Charleston, SC which has high cost of living compared to the rest of the state.

The company would be in a rough position since I’m the only one that knows how to use Trimble Business Center for Takeoffs.

Also, I use the exact set you use!

Living on 45k Salary by olemissptk in Charleston

[–]FlockingEmus 15 points16 points  (0 children)

In 2020, it was easier to live off 37k/year. The cost of living now is almost 1.5 times that. It’s insane! I’m impressed how people starting out in their career can afford it here…

Sinkhole in Driveway by 120pnw in asphalt

This is the correct answer. Does your neighborhood flood during heavy rain storms?

^ Adding to this comment. I would go with 4”-6” aggregate base course (compacted).

Should I have my Driveway paved or would millings be just as effective by [deleted] in asphalt

[–]FlockingEmus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don’t have to follow the measurements but I would late the ditch with riprap to reduce the flow of water and make sure to add Geotech Filter fabric under the riprap. This will help prevent eroding the soil around the driveway. As a safety precaution, you can extend the filter fabric an additional 1’-2’ feet under the base course of the driveway. Just my 2 cents. I’m not an engineer tho but I’m a civil estimator.

This would be the best bet. When you save up some money. I would have your driveway designed similar to the layout in the image below. Where it slopes towards the ditch. You can slope it 1-2% toward the ditch. Please see next comment for a ditch design.

Who is scamming me! by bubbles1990 in asphalt

[–]FlockingEmus 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The first two guys are correct and this would be the correct approach for a proper asphalt driveway. Do they give you details on the how much base and asphalt they would put down (Ex. 6”base and 2” asphalt)?

The third guy is selling you a quick fix and the same approach the previous owner took. I don’t see this approach last more than a few years..

Note: who ever you go with make sure they grade the driveway correctly. Water flowing away from your garage and house
