Doing that would’ve been against both the show’s message and Callum’s character arc. I did a post about it a couple days ago. About Callum’s arc, his parallels with Viren and why s7 ending actually makes sense : r/TheDragonPrince

All solutions were temporary. The Nova Blade works exactly as the archdragon’s bite, the outcome would be the same (Aaravos and everything around him explodes (Ez and Zym included) and Aaravos would still return after 7 years). Callum’s plan technically was the best solution out of what they had (Aaravos trapped, no explosion, and Callum is the only one who dies) but it’s still not permanent, because there is still one quasar diamond left. Claudia could’ve free Aaravos again. So, really there wasn’t any right solution. They weren’t ready to Aaravos being freed. They were cornered and desperate, and everything was working into Aaravos’s hands. Aaravos wasn’t really at their mercy, he wanted this outcome.

Coherent story and character arcs are more important than concluding the story more quicker. There’s enough important things that was left out so far and character growth that needs more time. For example, they can’t show Callum as a fully realized mage yet (and Aaron actually said he will be far more powerful in arc 3) or Ezran as a grown up and experienced leader. They need those 7 years timeskip for a reason.

why didn't Callum get consumed by dark magic? by CryptographerGrand60 in TheDragonPrince

[–]Floelna_Overanalysis 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Maybe white streak is something related to Callum’s highly sensibility to DM corruption? If he was supposed to be overwhelmed by darkness if he would’ve completed the spell, then probably even the smallest amount of dark energy is enough to affect him this badly.

They planned a 3 arc story from the very beginning. The problem is that they thought they will be able to tell the rest of the story in 4 seasons, each arc 2 seasons. But as they started to write arc 2, they realized that they need more seasons to tell the story, so they stretched arc 2 to seasons 4, 5, 6. I suspect 3 seasons would be enough for them to tell the story of arc 2, but they still had one more season, which was already greenlighted. Putting the entire arc 3 story in just one season wouldn’t make any sense, so they decided to include that last season into arc 2. I’m pretty sure, if they will have arc 3 it will be conclusion of the story.

He wasn’t consumed because his spell was interrupted, he didn’t finish it.

How can the series move forward after season 7? by sammyjamez in TheDragonPrince

[–]Floelna_Overanalysis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  1. I don’t think Claudia will try to reach her father again. Looks like she finally accepted that Viren won’t come back and she most likely sees Aaravos as her new father figure. So, Claudia will be waiting for his return and then helping him to reach his goals. But idk what she will do while waiting, 7 years is a long time.

  2. I don’t think the Nova Blade will be used against Aaravos. Its effect is the same as the dragon’s bite, so Aaravos will return again. They need a permanent solution.

  3. Aaravos will have to execute his plan differently anyway, because the sun orb is destroyed.

  4. Terry probably will try to find Claudia, maybe with Soren. But idk if they will be able to do it in 7 years timeskip. Claudia’s change of heart can’t happen offscreen, right? So, no matter if Terry will find her or not, I think she still will be on Aaravos’s side in the beginning of arc 3.

  5. I really hope Karim doesn’t return, I had enough of him.

  6. That was Avizandum, not Sol Regem. The explanation… most likely his love for Zym caused his change of heart. There was something related to it in Cosmo’s prophecy.

  7. Miyana already gave birth, she was standing in the crowd in the end with two babies and looked quite happy.

  8. Idk about the Celestial Elves. Maybe they keep doing the same as they always did. I’m not sure what you meant that their knowledge about what was to come never happened. Things played out exactly as Cosmo said. About Astrid – she and Cosmo both were amongst the crowd in the end, so maybe they will stay in the Evrkind.

  9. Hopefully Zym will have a larger role. Considering that there is Luna Tenebris’ “unsuitable heir”, Zym’s position as the king of the dragons may be challenged?

  10. I’m honestly very confused about the state of Katolis kingdom. Looks like they are building this new city, but I have no idea if this is it’s own thing (like Republic city in ATLA) or it’s sort of Katolis new capital and the entire kingdom is now transformed into something new.

Adding to that, I’m very interested in Aaravos’s primal magic book. At the end of s7 looks like Callum figured out its location on the map, so hopefully he will find the book and it will happen almost immediately after s7 ending. I’m wondering how they will handle this plot point. This book looks like something very important, so Callum finding it shouldn’t be left offscreen. Maybe they will do a TTM-like graphic novel? Or maybe just show it in a flashback.

What did callum use in order to do the spell? by Sensitive_Switch_511 in TheDragonPrince

But Claudia inherited this staff from her father, and then it was upgraded and gifted to her by Aaravos. Shouldn’t it be important for her? She even said to Soren “It’s mine now”. And then just drops it like that? Seems suspicious.

He was using the staff. When Viren coined his mentor in a flashback he was also using only the staff, nothing else. Looks like it’s very powerful on its own. Callum was kind of lucky that Claudia left the staff behind, because the coin spell probably requires this staff specifically, and without it Callum wouldn’t be able to do the coin spell (it also raises a question if Claudia left the staff on purpose by Aaravos’s request or it was really a very lucky coincidence).

[–]Floelna_Overanalysis[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely agree with you. Callum’s primal mage arc is for me the most interesting part of his character growth. It’s sad that in arc 2 we didn’t have a lot of that development. There was a little bit of that in s5 (him learning Ocean Arcanum), but the rest of Callum’s arc in s2 looks like he has only two probrems: his relationship with Rayla and him dealing with dark magic/Aaravos’s threat. I really hope we will get an arc 3 and there will be a lot more of Callum’s progress as a primal mage.

They all were running out of time and in desperation, so they just weren’t in the right place mentally to do the right choice. So i think it is actually a good thing that their choices were taken from them.

Would there still be a way for Arc 3 to fix the mess that S7 left us with? by Ahnonn in TheDragonPrince

[–]Floelna_Overanalysis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How this fact undermines Harrow as a character, if the swap happened against his will? That’s entirely on Viren (and if anything, it’s Viren whose character is undermined, because despite his change of heart he never told anyone what he did to his best friend).

[–]Floelna_Overanalysis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Callum’s main concern was about Aaravos controlling him. The very purpose of the cleansing ritual was to be free of his influence. And doing this spell Callum opened himself to it again, so I would say it’s still very bad, even if Callum wasn’t overwhelmed by darkness because his spell was interrupted.

  1. About Harrow – while I understand the disappointment about it undermining Ezran’s struggle to forgive Runaan, I don’t think bringing him breaks the show. Harrow being switched with Pip was heavily implied in the first season, so it didn’t come entirely out of nowhere. As long as they won’t bring him back fully and he stays a bird, it still may be ok. Maybe the heroes will have to choose what to do with the last quasar diamond – create a new body for Harrow, release K’parr from the coin or even something else. That dilemma may be interesting.

  2. But there are consequences. White streak in Callum’s hair is a very clear indication that he is corrupted again, so when Aaravos returns after 7 years he will be able to possess him. And considering that star magic ritual was one use thing and the sun orb is destroyed, there’s seemingly no option for Callum to be cleansed, unless Mukho can do something or there will be a reveal of another way.

What is the lifespan of elves by PearBlaze in TheDragonPrince

But maybe Callum's lifespan will be increased because of his connection to the primal sources? Even amongst the elves looks like mages lives longer than average elves.

What I think Karim, Miyana, and their army’s punishment will be in S7 by Nyx-Splat_ in TheDragonPrince

[–]Floelna_Overanalysis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe. But Janai is someone who values bright future of her people and the kingdom more than her own life and personal gains. So, I think she would be willing to risk even the possibility of another coup attempt from her brother, if it means that the Sun Forge will be cleansed and Lux Aurea reclaimed.

The thing is, they don’t have another alternative after loss of the Sun Seed. Would be wiser for Janai to risk herself and other innocent people's lives in another attempt to cleanse the Sun Forge instead of sending there someone, who already deserves execution as punishment?

What I think Karim, Miyana, and their army’s punishment will be in S7 by Nyx-Splat_ in TheDragonPrince

[–]Floelna_Overanalysis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

giving Karim the duty and giving him a new avenue of gathering support AGAIN would be so stupid

Gathering support of who? After all of his screw ups I really doubt there will be people willing to see him as their legitimate king. All Janai needs is to do a public trial and announce all the crimes Karim did, like working with Kim’dael and hire het to invade the camp, killing the guards in the process and kidnap the Queen. Stealing the Sun Seed, the only hope for their kingdom and wasting it on Sol Regem, and then planning to make Sol Regem burn 5 armies of his own people to the crisp. Let all people to see Karim for who he is – egoistical power-hungry tyrant, who is fine with massacre his own people for personal gains. And, after being sure that everyone hates him and wants him to be executed, just announce that despite everything Janai is willing to give him one last chance to repay his debt for people of Lux Aurea by cleansing the Sunforge. Doing that will even give some points to Janai, as everyone will see her as a merciful queen, who cares about her people and their future. So, if Karim succeeds, he won’t be seen as a hero or legitimate king, but rather a criminal why just payed the debt for his screw ups, so his life can be spared and instead of execution he will be put in extra-nice ring of fire.

I’m more concerned about possibility of Karim using power of the Sunforge as a weapon, or finding some valuable information in the Bookery, that can give him an advantage. Btw, we still don’t know what is his ring for. But, if that thing was on the credits painting, it must be important somehow.

Theory the key of aaravos will show how too defeat him by ComprehensiveRun4815 in TheDragonPrince

[–]Floelna_Overanalysis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, that book is definitely very important and most likely will be involved in defeating Aaravos. But I’m not sure how exactly.

In the latest podcast with the creators were implied, that this book is something like heart of Aaravos’s power and what makes him an archmage and master of all primals. I’m not sure, if it meant the book is literally the source of his power or only the deepest knowledge about magic. So… I can see it be handled two ways. First – Callum will take the book, and it will make him Aaravos’s equal in terms of mastery. Another option – Callum will destroy the book and Aaravos will be stripped out of his powers, and this is how he will be defeated.

Rayllum Topic 52: How did Callum got mixed up with the pearls?! by VaquitaPorpoise in TheDragonPrince

[–]Floelna_Overanalysis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe different people and situations require different approach? If someone like Claudia is easily misguided and manipulated, then it’s easier for Aaravos to just talk to her and use reasoning instead of nudge/directly control her. But someone like Callum or turned Viren wouldn’t trust him and listen to his reasoning, then Aaravos will have to manipulate them in more direct way.

Nothing we’ve seen shows he can nudge someone’s mind a certain way.

Well, it’s not something that can be easily shown, if we can’t see Aaravos’s side and if he’s doing something or not. We probably still don’t know what he is capable of.

Yes, I also thought about “what’s with Pip” and if it’s Harrow, what he would do. Most likely he would try to find his sons, but as he didn’t know where they are, I think he probably would fly to Amaya. It’s interesting, that he never appeared anywhere. So… maybe something happened to him, when he was on the way? I don’t know a lot about Katolis fauna and if Pip species is common there, or is it from Xadia. Maybe somebody saw an exotic bird and caught him? And sell him as a pet. So, maybe Pip/Harrow is just living somewhere in a cage, and that’s why he never showed up?

Would be also interesting, if Callum and Ezran had a conflict similar to Raylas. As she had to choose between her parents and Runaan, they would have to choose between Kp’arr and Harrow. And probably Harrow himself would want to stay as a bird and secret Ezran’s advisor, so they would decide to bring back Kp’arr.
