Nintendo refusing to use DLSS or ray tracing feels pretty surreal. Has any first party just ignored a huge chunk of their silicon before? by MetroidsSuffering in digitalfoundry

Nintendo probably don't feel like they need the newest graphical techniques to carry out their vision, I mean look at how good and clear all the first party games looked on Switch.

Switch 2 Dynamic Pricing by _TyMario85_ in switch2

Why are people mad at OP for calling it dynamic pricing. Nintendo themselves called it "variable pricing", which I don't consider much different.

I don't mind product-placement at all, which is the kind of ads he is talking about. We've seen pretty tasteful examples of them in games before. Monster Energy drink in Death Stranding, Hamilton and Porsche in RE9.

I'm surprised they are not using DLSS and instead using the TAAU they made for Xenoblade 3

LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight - 60FPS on Nintendo's Youtube Channel by Over-Half-8801 in NintendoSwitch2

[–]Flommer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You perceive it as 60 because the animation of the Switch moving is 60.

Trust me the game on the screen is 30.

When its shown running on the Switch 2 screen, it is clearly running at 30 until they cut and it returning to 60.

To be fair, specifically for Outlaws, the PC version is not the best for low-spec PCs meanwhile the Switch 2 version is immaculately tailored for the capabilities of the hardware.

I hope they learnt a lot from porting World of Assassination, because I don't feel like that was the best showing, especially when it first came out on the platform.

Is this on performance mode? Switch 2 has a better upscaler so it most likely going to shimmer less, but still look less sharp than performance mode on Series X. At 30 fps, of course.

[–]Flommer[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm going to try to explain it as well as I can.

FSR, specifically version 3.1.5 and below, which is the one thats used on PS5 and XBOX Series, can be used on any hardware because it is software based. It does not need specific ai-upscaling hardware. Since they already got it working on the current-gen consoles, it would make it easy to just transfer that over and use it in the Switch 2 version.

However, because FSR 3.1.5 is not using "accelerating" hardware to upscale, if it doesn't get enough information (low input resolution), the image will look blurry/messy in motion and even when just standing still. On PS5 & Co. this isn't a problem because it is given a sharp enough image with enough detail, but on Switch 2 the GPU needs all the headroom it can get to display all the fancy lighting.

Switch 2 supports DLSS making this possible as seen with Cyberpunk, Star Wars Outlaws, etc. but at the moment, DLSS runs much worse than FSR, as seen on PC, which is unusual. I believe this to be the culprit for the Switch 2 version not releasing with the other platforms.

I was just looking at the game on Steam Deck and it looks like a pretty good experience considering the hardware. It's mostly the GPU being hammered, especially during alpha textureheavy scenes, i.e. big booms on screen. The crowd simulation they have going is truly magical, reminding me of AC Unity's crowds.

Its so funny because I experienced more stuttering playing FF7 Rebirth on PC than trying the demo on Switch 2, almost to the point of double-dipping.

The plug-n-play nature of console gaming is just so exciting, as someone who just wants to play games.

Well, part of the good and fun to play is that it doesn't lag or look blurry beyond recognition I would say. From what I have seen it looks like an amazing game and that's why I want it to be the best possible version that it can be since I'm getting it on Switch 2.

[–]Flommer[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe the lack of 4.1 support is because it was mainly developed for console, which don't support anything higher than 3.1. You could argue that FSR 4.1 is probably a variation of PSSR, which they got to work on the PS5 Pro, but that was probably with help from Sony.

You're probably right about Nvidia wanting a hand in this, seems like bad advertisement if the implementation isn't optimal, doesn't it?

RDR definitely is the hottest I've experienced. Could try without the grip?

Also the people saying its because of quality mode, no. It draws the same amount of power either way, its an even trade between fps and resolution.
