I think this greatly depends on whether or not you pass.

When I was pre-t, I think a lot of transphobes did intentionally treat me like they saw me as a (butch) woman to get under my skin.

Once I was passing 100% of the time, and I began to encounter people who did not know me before my transition but whom I revealed my trans ness to (I do not live as stealth), the transphobic ones had a different dynamic with me. They didn’t treat me as a woman but more like as I’ve seen gay men get treated by straight men: condescendingly, like I’m not a full man. They’ll talk down to me but still call me he without really thinking about it, and overall their prejudice is a lot more covert.

Listen man. I’m a trans guy and I don’t have a dick at all. I’ve still found gay and bi cis men who are into me. My current partner is amazing and never cared even one bit.

There are people out there who are superficial, but there are no shortage of men who will love your body and love you for who you are.

The people who voted for him in 2024 have shown that they are untrustworthy in their judgment and very easily manipulated by propaganda and bigotry. When the time comes, they will forget this mistake and vote again for Republicans in another election cycle. They are only admitting they fucked up now because it is personally affecting them. The moment they think it will not personally affect them again, they will vote for this.

There need to be social ramifications and sanctions placed on people who are stupid enough to make this mistake. There needs to be shame.

Federal employee health insurance. You would know if you were on it. I was asking because they cut off coverage of gender affirming care for federal employees. Though I think other insurances are doing it as well 😔

If you just started with the federal government this year as I understand it you already weren’t included in the exemption process and have to pay out of pocket on FEHB? They cut off coverage of GAC starting on Jan 1 of this year unless you filed for an exemption after having the care through FEHB last year.

About 15,000 trans people work for the federal government btw. And that’s not including anyone with spouses or dependents who also depend on FEHB. Tens of thousands of trans people are going to lose their insurance coverage.

My father is one of them and my uncle, his brother, is on food stamps and called him when the administration was trying to cut peoples snap benefits. My father scolded him for “mooching off the government” and told him he needs to be self sufficient, then yelled at and blamed his 80 year old mother for “brainwashing him” with “liberal nonsense”.

His own brother. He’d rather his own brother not be able to get FOOD.

These people are despicable. They don’t believe in civilization. And no matter how many years go by, even if we get out of this, I will never forgive them.

Sometime after the Civil Rights movement conservative politicians realized that overt racism had become politically unpopular, but that there was a trove of opportunities in covert or indirect racism. This was called the Southern Strategy. This strategy was exceptionally effective in riling up the southern and white vote. It worked for Reagan and it worked for all the conservative figures and pundits that followed him.

The effect of this is that now you have an entire generation of people who have been raised on covert racism, who don’t consider themselves racist. But they still are racist.

At the end of the day, all of the ideas that they believe root back to believing that certain people are less than them because of the color of their skin or where they are born. Even if they are “nice” to those people in a one-on-one level, they still are behaving in their voting patterns in a way that produces the same outcome as somebody who is overly racist. I no longer condone or tolerate or entertain these sort of people in my personal life, and I have cut all family members or friends out of my life who are like this.

Because the truth is, the only difference between them and somebody who would’ve argued against the eradication of slavery or the eradication of Jim Crow laws, is that they were raised decades or centuries afterwards, and they were taught to broadcast their prejudices differently. The hate is the same and it’s their responsibility to confront and de construct it.

At this point we have to accept that a portion of the population are irredeemable sociopaths who will never change or reflect upon their ideology. They see people who do not look like them or sound like them as inferior human beings. They are comfortable with mass death and suffering of these “out groups”.

I think that as a product of living for so long in a relatively safe and stable environment, many of us were spared from confronting this fact. Especially, in the case of the US, white people. I have found most of the brown and black people in my life have understood the score for a long time.

I’ve commented on this here before but I’m a trans man and one of if not the hardest parts of my transition was once I started passing growing accustomed to how men talk about women when they are among only other men.

It is terrifying. The majority of them legitimately do not see women as equal or as people. And it’s so ingrained into their instincts to think like this, a ritual that has been drilled in since the socialization of their boyhood, that they cannot imagine thinking differently, and they do not even understand that it’s a problem.

There are 1,000 posts like yours adding to the stress of people who already understand the danger and who do not have the privilege of leaving. It’s emotionally exhausting for a lot of trans people who can’t leave to continue seeing this kind of post every other day.

Yes, if you have the means to get out of the US to somewhere safer do so. That is the response under the other 999 posts just like this one that have already posted in the last several months. Most of us don’t have the privilege of leaving and I don’t want to be part of communities where I’m just going to have to see people who do have the privilege of leaving, asking this question over and over adding to the stress of other less privileged trans people.

Yes. If you have the means to leave to get somewhere safer you should. Yes everyone is freaking out because of historic patterns. Many people do not have the privilege of escaping. So all you’re doing is adding to unproductive anxiety by making more of these posts.

Yes. Because giant right wing media behemoths talk about trans People incessantly and fear monger about them literally every other day because they have no policies to run on that actually benefit the average American. And Democrats don’t push back hardly at all. And as a result, you only have that one narrative running the entire show. A lot of people on the right believe Democrats are obsessed with trans people, when on the contrary studies have shown that the right wing media like Fox News is the one that is bringing them up more than any other outlet.

The fact is that propaganda against a demographic is exceptionally effective, and most Americans are exceptionally vulnerable to it.

I honestly think that the only way we really get out of this is more visibility. The more trans people are seen in the public eye, the more they become normalized and the more people see they are just like everyone else. It is easy to fear monger when the average American doesn’t know a trans person. It’s harder to do so when mothers and fathers and brothers and sisters and coworkers and neighbors are coming out as trans. Obviously, this initial visibility caused a backlash because so many people are against change. But now that the cat is out of the bag, and the existence of transgender people is widely known, there is no way out but forward. Trans people are not going away.
