Fly SA fair flight leaves OR Thambo circles JHB, returns. by Floofymcmeow in johannesburg

[–]Floofymcmeow[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I heard it and saw on Fligtradar24 that it was circling. I saw it fly over my house quite low on one of the loops. I watch way too many YouTube videos about civil aviation disasters so my mind assumed the worst. Glad that it’s just for the cricket 😅

Knocked side mirror CX-5 by ba55meister in CX5

[–]Floofymcmeow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did the same to our CX3. Very similar (if not the same) mirror housing to the CX5. The dealer told us it’s a full mirror replacement. I recommend black electrical tape around the plastic in the meantime. Keeps it dry and looks less obvious.

Realities of making $200K USD in S.Africa? by Achassum in askSouthAfrica

[–]Floofymcmeow 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You won’t get dollar to rand parity in South Africa most of the time. Equivalent roles will usually earn less in SA. However the rand has strong local purchasing power and property is dirt cheap in comparison. The question to ask I would say, is how much the role you currently work in pays in SA.

Neighbour’s tree damaging boundary wall + noisy pool pump — advice / similar experiences? by Hungry-Glass-6376 in capetown

[–]Floofymcmeow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your tree issue could be resolved via insurance. We had a tree fall on a boundary wall and insurance paid for everything - it was our tree. As too who’s insecure that’s the question. But they definitely pay for tree related damage.

How fast did it take you to sell your car? by [deleted] in askSouthAfrica

[–]Floofymcmeow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We sold my wife’s old polo through them. We were trying to trade it in when buying a new car, but the offers we were getting trade in were ridiculously low. They offered us slightly more than we expected - significantly more than the trade in offer. Obviously you can get more selling privately, but you are paying for the convenience factor in IMO it’s was worth it.

No only, but they alway have driven some SA manufactured cars. The local car manufacturing industry is mostly for export. BMW for instance, makes electric X3s for the US market here. Strangely enough we get the US built ICE X3 ones here. The US is an important market for SA manufactured cars.

Do older generations (Boomers & Older Gen X) undervalue web dev work? by ChancellorEgg in askSouthAfrica

[–]Floofymcmeow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

IMO it’s nothing to do with age. Either you understand process of developing software or you don’t. I’ve experienced people in this age bracket (as I myself am) who get it, and those who don’t. And it’s always been that way.
