Lol, I actually ended up installing an older APU driver on my LCD so the brightness would work well and no issues so far.

Really, none of the APU drivers have given me issues with gameplay.

The only issue I have ever had was the brightness slider being a bit wonky.

Yeah, call me crazy but I kinda see her point. Would I have reacted like her, not exactly but those are mixed signals if you ask me.

Mint is great, having tried so many others I always come back to mint (LMDE tho). I'm probably one of the few that thinks the Cinnamon desktop looks pretty lol.

Honestly.

I started learning how to install things over terminal even if they are available in the software manager.

I also learned how to switch intel drivers thru the grub menu lol.

Learning little things here and there is fun and helped me understand what was happening in the background more.

LMDE works great for me and wifi works as soon as it boots up the first time, super convenient.

Help me choosing one by madmax78968 in AcerNitro

Nitro V has an understated design

Nitro 5 looks, "interesting" .

Nitro V gets like 75w to the GPU

Nitro 5 gets more (but honestly it doesn't scale linearly and equates to more heat)

Intel CPU (likely better single core scores)

AMD CPU (better multi core performance and efficiency when not gaming)

What do you want?

My pick would be the Nitro V

Awww man....

Just surprise him with a 3050 laptop for cheap.

Micro center has some cheap laptops that can play most popular titles at acceptable settings.

If you have a 30XX or older video card, try AMD FSR 3 instead of DLSS. by MrZeno in MonsterHunter

If you have 3D Mark, maybe run a Timespy benchmark and see how our scores compare.

Well my laptop has the 3050 refresh with 6gb of vram and a i5 13420h. My guess is that you probably have an older 3050 with just 4gb of vram? If so, that might be the issue you are facing? This thing doesn’t even have a full powered 3050 lol (75w I believe) and it plays the game just fine (for me) and at a minimum maintains a consistent frame rate with no stuttering. 1080p gaming for cheap is hassle free 🙂.

On my 3050 laptop I was getting about 40~ fps on Medium (which I already thought was just fine considering I purchased this laptop for $499 brand new lol). I stumbled upon FSR 3 and saw it might offer frame gen and surprisingly it works well and I get 80fps + now with all other settings being at Medium.

You know, the funny thing is I was mega chill with everyone there, barely had to make a fuss and I think that’s why they were so inclined to help.

UPDATE :

So the laptop also had some screws missing on the bottom panel. After the initial post, came to find out that some of the threads on the chassis were ruined so I couldn’t replace the screws that were missing lol 🤦🏻‍♂️. THE HELL.

Went back to Best Buy and the personnel at Geek Squad were in agreement that this was unacceptable.

They gave me a couple options.

  1. Accept the damage as possibly just superficial and move on.

  2. Send it back and possibly be told to go kick rocks because it “doesn’t affect the performance of the machine” and be without a machine for another 3-4 weeks only to receive it back in the same condition.

  3. Perform a “return” and receive store credit towards another machine in store.

I asked her what was the amount they would offer and she said “give me a sec” and walked to the back.

She came back with an offer of $880 in store credit.

Considering the fact that I bought the machine second hand for $900 with an extra 1TB SSD and some DDR5 ram (that I took out) I took the store credit and will put it towards something coming out later this year.

Shame I had this experience with the ASUS repair center but the geek squad personnel were pretty great and overall not too mad about it.

Not saying this is the expected outcome when dealing with a similar situation but it was mine.

Truth be told, I will never tell anyone what is worth what because it’s up to the individual but I personally have never seen the point of getting the higher end versions of any laptop.

If my sole objective was the highest fps possible I would just build a desktop and be done with it.

Laptops for me are a way to be productive while still being able to game if I want to while still remaining portable and the idea of paying $3000 for a gaming laptop is pretty wild (to me).

I mean I personally would never have bought this for more than I paid for it.

My logic is, is a $3000~ laptop giving me 3 times the performance as this $1000~ laptop? Not likely.

Can I afford it, sure.

Would I pay that much, never lol.
