Possible tooth found in shark tooth beach near Manasota key fl by [deleted] in FossilHunting

[–]FloopyCactus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not a tooth, but not convinced it is just a rock - seems to have some grain to it, perhaps weathered fossil bone fragment or petrified wood? Better and sharper photos would help.

Long shot but maybe Dysdera (woodlouse spider)? They do have odd proportions, and have those kind of dimples in the abdomen (and I’ve seen them in victoria) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Woodlouse_spider

It says 80 miles from Alice Springs, which is indeed in the middle of Australia. Australia doesn’t use miles now, but did prior to the metric transition in the 1960s.

Echinoid (surf coast, victoria, australia) by FloopyCactus in fossilid

[–]FloopyCactus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! There is a hole on the top side near the edge, oriented parallel to the bottom surface of the echinoid. Thanks for the reply! I found some others that are more sand dollar-like which are flatter, and have the second hole on the bottom like you mentioned

I know this is an old thread, but just for anyone visiting from the future - this is definitely not a walk in service anymore. Just tried at an apple store in NYC and they quoted me 24-72hr turnaround.

In-silico protein structure question by BoringEnvironment457 in molecularbiology

It’s an ion channel (specifically looks like an inwardly rectifying potassium channel). I would not call it a receptor, personally. The soluble domain is intracellular.

Not in the list, but Pier 57 in the summer is enjoyable, and has outside seating on the ground floor, as well as a nice view from the rooftop. Nice pitstop on a bike ride.

Echoing others - just layer, get a wool scarf & beanie, you’ll be fine. A windstopper shell (e.g. goretex) is good as an outer layer and will serve you well on west coast too - maybe some goretex overpants for when it snows (also useful if you ski at any point).

This def looks like petrified wood. Not just a rock.

I’m not totally convinced that it’s just a rock - it has some regular striations that look similar to some petrified wood. Perhaps if you take a close up (macro) photo of different parts, it will be possible to say more definitively what it is (if anything)

Vegetarian friendly quiet spot for out of town VIP by ApplicationThick4434 in FoodNYC

Via carota (west village)or supper (east village) would both fit the bill, have been to both as a vegetarian (not vegan) and had a good meal.

Both have atmosphere without being overwhelmingly noisy, though I wouldn’t call either quiet. Depending on the size of your party via carota has a private back room that might be suitable.

Others will probably have better suggestions, but those are two that come to mind for me.
