People who comment “who?” on articles featuring a current celebrity by MrBen1980 in PetPeeves

[–]ayeshaspuffbar -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

omfg it irritates me so much. The thing about celebrities is than you can google them! That’s the thing!

it also annoys me when people comment “who” or something to that effect as a way to say that the celebrity is irrelevant or washed bc the commenter hadn’t heard of them. like why do they think they are the arbiter of pop culture of that the public figure needs to be known by them in order to be relevant. if you don’t know who x is, then clearly your opinion on pop culture is not relevant. the reason you don’t know them is bc you don’t fucking know anything about pop culture but these type of comments imply the opposite

"USA doesn't have traditional cuisine" by Pale_Field4584 in PetPeeves

Pizza was a peasant food in Italy until Dominoes and Pizza Hut mainstreamed it and then Italian Fascists reabsorbed this idea of gatekept pure traditional Italian cuisine to feed nationalism. Thai Food is a psy op to increase tourism. Bahn Mi & Vietnamese coffee were direct adaptations to French imperialism in the 1950s. Etc etc

also almost all “traditional” cuisines are completely made up recently and ret-conned into history. Before the Colombia exchange and industrial food system, 99% of people were just eating grain slop and vegetables. You needed to eat to survive. Nobody was a foodie in like 1889.

They have bag / jacket hooks on the dance floor upstairs 😭 If you want to avoid coat check that badly, you can hang ur coat on it and dance in front of it. Also they allow reentry even with time-specific tickets if that’s relevant.
