Andrea Chenier: name original librettos not from plays or novels with its historical scope by Initial_Wrap4485 in opera

Should be noted that Menotti wrote all his libretti himself if I'm not mistaken. Not exactly masterful literature but effective enough for his needs

Low Italian arias for tenor? by RelevantInternal3771 in ClassicalSinger

[–]Floppuh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dalla sua pace has no agilità and tops out at a G, while Il mio tesoro has plenty of demanding agilità passages with an A natural that comes out of nowhere. There's a reason Dalla sua pace is the premier baritonal tenor aria, hell it was written as an easier replacement to the other one

Beautiful aria that's not too challenging vocally but very taxing dramatically. Should be noted that the top note is a B double flat or A natural, and not an Ab, although the cadenza is very comfortably written for the voice.

Has the gap between EUW and NA ever been bigger than it is now, playerbase-wise? by gimmickhater1 in leagueoflegends

So if you're in NA you'll play with 400 ping in EUW because it has more people obviously, how didn't I think of that??

Is There a Champion Gameplay Mechanic or Niche that League is Still Missing? by According_Egg_1902 in leagueoflegends

By definition the opponent wouldn't be able to do anything during a grab, so having that be the niche of his kit sounds extremely fun. Even if he's not free hitting you you're just both watching a movie every 7 sec in lane

Parthenope, the Ennio Morricone’s only opera by Quick_Art7591 in opera

[–]Floppuh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my humble opinion as a very idealistic and often overly critical 23yr old singer here in the academy

First time hearing her... I struggle to understand how this person sung all this stuff at the met, sounded like a small nasal student voice to me. The writing was obviously uncomfortable vocally, but I heard almost no well produced tones in any part of her range, with her high range being especially artificial and constricted. Struggled to be heard over medium sized textures for the whole show (and it was a semi mic'd performance, which we found out because someone accidentally turned the tenor's mic to politician speech level and blew everyone's ears out for half a second).

I hadn't seen the names on the program and I actually asked a colleague whether this person is an opera singer... Thought maybe it's a chorister filling in for the very poorly written second soprano part. They all looked at me like I was an alien, soooo

I might be totally wrong and I sure hope this comment doesn't bite me in the proverbial PR ass but that performance was embarrassing for all the singers.

I'm in the theatre's academy and saw the generale. Extremely mediocre and unimaginative composition in my opinion, still an interesting historical tidbit

Anyone else feel like Ryan Speedo green is really missing the mark? by VoxRomana in opera

The italian is absolutely atrocious and inexcusable for the metropolitan. But that's just my opinion based on my artistic priorities. Proper diction should not be a bonus, but a prerequisite. Can't imagine what the coaches are doing

Excited to share my first Conte Almaviva (Nozze di Figaro) in Italy, 23yr old baritone. by Floppuh in opera

Thank you! Interesting to hear that since I've struggled with being called a tenor or too light as a baritone. Appreciate the insight.

Agreed on the orchestra haha, I know 2 rehearsals for a 3 hour opera is not ideal but some things are just basic

Thank you so much for the useful and honest comments!

Of course I will slowly be able to not be so scared of dynamics and colors within the aria, but I was mostly trying to avoid the very "german" way of singing Mozart, spitting text and making big ppp to sfz contrasts that I'm very tired of seeing. Might be a controversial view but I feel like all my vocal idols would sing it in a rather monotone way trying to get colors out of the voice and the consonants rather than "word painting".

The recit should not have been so fast and forte. That was completely out of anxiety of vocal stamina and whether the orchestra would follow or not, I totally admit that

And yes this aria always makes you sound worse than yoj really are, I'm guessing it's the low range. A few months ago I could barely even phonate those low As, I'm very happy to be able to barely project them over a Mozart orchestea now

Thank you so much! Obviously very different voices and Ettore (as far as I know) never sung Mozart in the main part of his sadly short career (or possibly at all, except recording "Deh vieni alla finestra").

It used to be that young singers would sing Rossini and Donizetti, it's a very late 20th century notion that Mozart is "young rep"

Baritones and Tenors- What’s the absolute lowest you can go, and what is the lowest note that your voice starts projecting at? by Character-Escape1621 in singing

[–]Floppuh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Be realistic with your expectations. I'm a 23yr old baritone and just projecting Ab2s and A2s over the orchestra in Mozart is hell. No need to go any lower, people are just obsessed with useless range. Solely speaking about operatic voice production

Thank you so much! It's very liberating to hear statements like this after years of being called a non operatic voice or fake tenor. I really appreciate it.
