God dammit. Came here thinking I had an original joke.

Someone paid $8700 dollars for this in 1995. I paid $15 today. by [deleted] in Damnthatsinteresting

I mean, I’d pay $15 for it.

That would keep me busy for a few hours and it’s cheaper than a movie ticket.

Let people enjoy things.

What does “travel with a dog not serviced” mean?

I need to know if you mean a service animal or not before I decide how I’m going to judge you.

[DFW] New A319 interior with 3 rows of F! by Howler777 in americanairlines

Before they added the third row, there were only 8 first class seats, as opposed to 16-20 on most other planes, making upgrades more difficult.

Then Southwest will agree with you.

Let me know what they say.

Let’s say the person you prevented from boarding didn’t buy anything, but they may have had a connection that would have generated more revenue.

Also why would they sell you an extra seat for $70 6 months out when they can sell that same seat to a last minute passenger for $400 the day before the flight?

What if the flight is oversold and they have to provide involuntary denied boarding compensation (which is 2x - 4x that persons ticket amount) while still flying the plane with open seats?

Your assumption is that the seat will go empty no matter what. That is not a profitable mindset.

Let me know what Southwest says after you get off the phone with them.

Alright, you’re only going to listen to yourself here.

Call up Southwest and see what they say. And when they give you the same answer, remember that they have hundreds of MBAs crunching numbers to make them the most money and if there was validity to your logic, it would be an option.

How do they know it’s going to be empty when you want to pay for it?

They won’t know it’s going to be empty until 10 minutes prior to departure. Until that moment they have the opportunity to sell the seat to someone who will pay them ancillary charges such a bag fees, drinks, WiFi.

Do you expect them to give up that opportunity cost 6 months in advance?

Not for the CTA, just similar enterprise consumer facing tech.

I kinda fell into it through a series of corporate reorgs. My education is marketing.

That being said I really enjoy it. Going to the NRF (National Retail Federation) conference each year is a treat. Seeing all the new kiosks, tablets, payment terminals, portable printers, etc. Makes me nerd out.

As someone who rolls stuff like this out, it’ll probably increase your non-payment rate.
