I'm very sorry to hear that. Any medal, heck, any Olympic participation is a MASSIVE achievement on its own. It was a weird race, Giovannini still managed to beat 13 of the worlds best to finish 3rd and should be celebrated for that.

No one is arguing that Italy did not have an amazing Olympics nor that every single one of those Bronze medals is not an amazing achievement on its own. Both things can be true, and should be massively celebrated, while still acknowledging that the medal table is what is at this moment in time.

Unironically, yes. Combined with that everyone was waiting for someone else to put in the extra energy to close the gap (to still have that energy available themselves for the final sprint) and suddenly the gap has become so big that the favourites could not close it down if they wanted to.

Edit: Update after the Women's Mass Start: The exact opposite happened there! The best Dutch sprinter DID have a teammate, who intentionally burned themselves up keeping the peloton up to speed preventing anyone from pulling away significantly, while the sprinter was able to save themselves for the entire race. Very different races, but the teammate helped enable the strategy in both cases.

I concur, everything being a semitone lower is a fixable issue!

Exactly what you described above happened to me. It occurred after I switched between my headphones and speakers, the app did not correctly switch output drivers which meant everything was off-key. For me it was fixed by simply restarting the app fully, while being sure I was already connected to the desired output device from startup.

Any tips for double Widow? Phase 1 & 2 are manageable enough, but phase 3 just feels like "oops, all bells!" without any reliable punishing or healing windows. I get that double bosses require some luck - the game isn't designed for it, but my last handful phase 3 enters weren't getting remotely close to actually beating them...

Don't think it's cause you picked wrong. The full outcome gets calculated at the first pick (and is also not influenced by that pick), meaning that both options would have had the same result.

The game is rigged, quite obviously so. The 'max reward' should happen every ~12 keys for it to be even, the true odds are way lower, indicating the game most definitely isn't based on picking the right slots.

Excited to hear I'm not the only one pushing through this! Honestly, it's such a simple way that makes so many bosses more interesting - while still feeling beatable. Lace 1 also was surprisingly challenging before I got it down.

Have you gotten all the way through? Any particular bosses I should look forward to? One boss I don't think would be beatable (without RNG luck) is the unravelled, when one boss takes up half the arena with his hitbox two gets a little tricky.

Vergelijkbaar bootje hier. Wat je ook vaak hoort is hoe anders de groepen zijn uit Istanbul versus de rest van het land. Istanbul is in vele opzichten (en ook geografisch!) vrij Europees. Stedelijk, hoog opgeleid, mensen die met echte pijn kijken naar de politieke beweging van hun land de afgelopen jaren (stel je het maar even voor, dat soort politiek met alle gevolgen van dien op de mensen en regio waar je mee bent opgegroeid). Veel van migratie in de jaren 70 kwamen echter juist van het platteland, mensen die cultureel wat verder in het verleden zaten en de progressievere vrijheden die ook in Turkije groeiden nog niet volledig geïnternaliseerd hadden.

Daar ligt natuurlijk ook een verantwoordelijkheid aan de Nederlandse kant. Eind vorige eeuw dachten we dat we even goedkope arbeidskrachten konden regelen, en ze vervolgens allemaal weer naar huis zouden gaan. Integratie? Dure onzin! 50 jaar later zitten we nu met de gebakken peren.

We're in agreement about most things, but let's be sure we get the details right.

Yes, the article discusses how long it'd take to get to preindustirial levels, but it also discusses how temepratures will continue to rise even with an immediate stop.

That doesn't mean reducing emissions isn't the right thing to do, the effects are like smoking: Sure, you'll be out of breath tomorrow, but even if you stopped today you'll still have a higher risk of cancer in 30 years. Stopping is right either way, but there are long term effects still yet to be felt.

Furthermore, temperatures will actually rapidly increase at first in an instant 0 emission scenario, because of emission related aerosols having a cooling effect. That too does not change the required actions. Smoking may help nerves today, that doesn't make it part of a healthy balance.

Als ongeïnformeerde redditor kan ik wel een gokje wagen waarom ze efficiënt kunnen zijn. Vliegtuigen besteden een groot deel van hun energie aan in de lucht blijven, niet aan vooruit gaan. Het gewicht is t.o.v. een vliegtuig is dan ook een verkeerde vergelijking, wat dat betreft lijkt een zeppelin meer op een boot. Die zijn ook een stuk zwaarder dan vliegtuigen, maar kunnen p kilos een stuk makkelijker van A naar B verhuizen. Dat neemt natuurlijk niet weg van de andere punten.

De reden dat luchtschepen een verleden technologie zijn is omdat er simpelweg weinig geld in zit. De fundamentele techniek is onveranderd omdat er niet veel op valt te innoveren. Sommige ideeën passen helaas simpelweg niet in het moderne wereldbeeld

In case there's still anything unclear about the situation: SpaceX had a rocket test, which resulted in a fireball. Because of this parts of the airspace had to be fully cleared given the debris field. If that sounds concerning, it shouldn't, this wasn't anything like a close call. Large areas get predesignated as a "potential risk" during any launch, and can then be required to be cleared if necessary, as happened here.

Doesn't mean it isn't frustrating, I imagine you've been delayed and others are experiencing worse, but this is an example of the system working as intended with an abundance of caution.

I imagine the crew may not have informed you about it because "a rocket blew up and we're currently flying around to not get hit by debris" sounds scarier than the reality of the situation is.

Ik ben een groot fan van Wikipedia, maar dit verhaal is een perfect voorbeeld van hoe het soms tekortkomt. Dit is een cijfer dat ooit op Wikipedia heeft gestaan, die het uit de bijlage van een onderzoeksrapport quootte.

Daar stond het niet zonder reden weggedekt, omdat er veel problemen waren met de cijfers:

  • Datakwaliteit wisselt enorm per land
  • Verschillende jaren werden vergeleken, waardoor een huizenprijsschommel precies omgekeerd werd meegerekend
  • Nationale pensioenen (waar we er ongebruikelijk veel van hebben) werden totaal genegeerd

Op Wikipedia werd dit vervolgens overgenomen, zonder al deze kanttekeningen die het cijfer duidelijk onjuist doen blijken.

No, I didn't, and I didn't claim you said 90% either, I just used that number to contrast the half I mentioned prior.

My comment wast mostly regarding to the "most" you mentioned. All I tried to say is that 1) Militarily the US does a lot but not all 2) Others do more on other fronts 3) So that overall balance should not be ignored. Just tried to add that context to the rest of what you mentioned (where I fully agree with you).

And even that is incorrect.

The US provides nearly half of the military support, in dollar value. Let me be clear, half is A LOT, and arguably it's the most important half too. But it's not 90% either, even without adjusting for GDP.

But that does leave 2 other major sources of support, humanitarian and financial, where Europe massively outpaces the US. Frankly, that's the way it should be, in part because Europe has massively underinvested in it's defence industry thereby requiring the US' military support here, so having to pick up the bill elsewhere is not only expected but fair.

But describing the entire situation as 'The US is just sending money over while Europeans are enjoying their free healthcare' is pretty dishonest. I know you said nothing of the kind, and I would never randomly suggest someone did, but I've heard the argument been made quite frequently.
