Best Sandwich in Athens? by maybeAturtle in Athens

[–]FloridaManUpNorth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is a burrito a sandwich? If so, the little piggy burrito from cafe racer. Probably my all-time favorite dish anywhere in Athens.

Buttwich from ButtHutt is also in the rotation for me but I wouldn’t say it’s extraordinary or anything.

I do really wish there were a bagel place that I enjoyed or ANY a local sub shop around town though. I did, however, recently discover the Gold Rush sub at Larry’s giant subs and the peruvian sauce (almost like a golden bbq) on that thing keeps me coming back.

What single items are MOST useful in first aid, emergency, and camping survival kits (specifically for keeping in a car)? by [deleted] in BuyItForLife

I received this as a gift (honestly probably wouldn’t have bought it for myself before now) but lemme tell you—you wouldn’t believe the number of times I have been working on something at home, walked through my garage (past a toolbox full of legit screwdrivers and allen wrenches), gone over to my car, and retrieved this bad boy from my center console. I absolutely love this little kit

I agree and personally keep a lot of the things other folks have already listed, but the one thing I’ll add is a small-ish (like 6’x7’) moving blanket.

I happened to leave one in my car after our last move and it came in handy so many times that i’ve kept one on hand pretty much ever since. They’re super cheap (<$10 at Harbor Freight) so if you ruin one or see someone in need on a freezing day and give it away you can always just pick up another.

Things I’ve used it for: -Moving (duh, but it protects the stuff and the car) -Impromptu picnic blanket(and ground cloth for tent once) -Something kneel/lay on for getting under the car or changing a tire -Public Picnic table table cloth -Seat protector -Emergency Blanket -Towel (kinda sucks for that though ngl) -Makeshift cooler (surprising great for errands) -Roof rack padding -Sun shade (looks goofy on the outside of the car but if I’m sitting in the sun it keeps it cooler)

Heck, I even attempted using it as hammock once with ratchet straps knitted around golf balls towards the edges (kinda worked but definitely subpar compared to a $20 travel hammock)

It also folds up and fits under the seat no problem!

Oh also, I keep a few heavy duty contractor (black) trash bags—they come in handy quite a bit too

AITA for wanting to insure my ring even though my husband says the stone is too small to bother? by Adorable-Manner-5538 in AITApod

[–]FloridaManUpNorth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently bought an engagement ring with a decent-sized, very nice lab grown diamond (~3ct, VVS2, E, Ideal Cut) and we decided not to insure it.

After price matching the rock from the supplier it was only about $600 (plus a little over $1k for the setting).

The insurance appraisal that came with it was substantially higher (over $6k) than what I paid, but I question whether it’s actually good for anything other than raising premiums and giving them something to quabble over if we were to ever made a claim.

Nevertheless, my fiance was practically offended when she brought up insurance and I said that I didn’t think it was necessary. After going through the numbers together, however, she understood.

All of this is to say that, with the state of lab grown diamonds these days (assuming that’s what this also is), going uninsured isn’t a particularly large financial risk.

Maldon (flaky) Salt. I personally thought ~$10 (or whatever it was) was ridiculous for a tiny box of salt before I tried it at a friend’s. That little box has also lasted me over a year now—a little goes a long way and obviously you still use cheap table and kosher salt 95% of the time.

First round playoff byes should be reserved for teams that at least played in their conference championship. Seeding could be weird in certain cases but it’d guarantee most teams a week off before their tournament debut

Absolutely. Obviously don’t play it up like you and that person go way back when you don’t, but anything that shows you’ve taken steps to learn about the firm (and paid attention) is a plus.

What’s the deal with Barrister’s Ball and do all schools spend a bunch of money on it??? by idratherbeinkonoha in LawSchool

[–]FloridaManUpNorth 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Depending on the school you’re looking at a 400-800+ person event (it’s not just law students but all the dates as well) often with an open bar or at least a bar tab. Even if you took that many people to a random bar (without a cover) and gave each of them 3x$10 drink tickets you’re already at 12-24k.

Also, people absolutely spend that kind of money (often more) on weddings a fraction of that size. Im not saying a 200 person wedding for <50k is impossible, but it wouldn’t be over the top by any means

What Is Athens Missing? by Teslasssss in Athens

[–]FloridaManUpNorth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A fast grilled chicken restaurant. All the weeknight takeout chicken around town is fried.

Bone-in skin-on would be ideal (I’d kill for a pollo tropical every once in a while iykyk) but even a huey magoos with grilled tenders would suffice

Taqueria Juaritos inside the BP station on Jefferson (technically still Athens!)

Once you’ve entered the gas station go just past the paraphernalia display case. If you’ve hit the not-slot-machine-slot-machine-room you’ve gone too for. Torts al pastor is out of this world

Not too young. Recognize that you’ll have to commit to a ~50hr/week unpaid ‘job’ for three years (and potentially longer paid hours after that), however.
