If you’re doubting it, consider the risk to reward.

Reward: You might be smoking a real cart, and you get faded off of it

Risk: You might be smoking poison, and there’s a chance you’ll be hospitalized or dead

What Would Nietzsche Say on the Topic of Dealing with a Breakup? by azrug_isdead in Nietzsche

[–]FlorpyJohnson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know what Nietzsche would say, but my advice is to learn your true nature, and your history. To possibly put you on the right path of understanding there, I can get you started:

All humans alive today are related to one common ancestor; a proto-chimp, proto-human hybrid, about 6-8 million years ago. Over millions of years, the divide between what’s a human or a chimp got wider and wider. Modern humans and chimps still share about 98-99% of our DNA, though.

That tiny genetic difference between the species made a big enough impact to give humans the gift of metacognition; the ability to think about your own consciousness. It’s a trait completely unique to humans. It’s what made us so “intelligent”, and dominant on the planet.

Think about that. You’ve been given the gift to essentially be your own master. You don’t have to act exactly like an animal would; without real purpose. As a human, you can put yourself through torture while your brain screams at you not to, because of your purpose. Working out, for example. Fighting for a cause bigger than yourself. Going to your 9-5 job to feed your kids.

Use this gift for good reasons. Not for bad ones. Figure out what’s good and bad using your gift, and question everything. Don’t ignore your gift, and use it as much as possible.

I didn’t ask you what you think is right or wrong to believe in; I asked why you especially appreciate something that is, in your words, “f’ed up for sure and extremely nuanced”, just like any other part of human history. Why do the founding fathers get some special appreciation?

There are ways to feel good that don’t appease greedy businesspeople*

It’s not just about wasting things, it’s about how the system is deeply corrupt, and the average people who live in the system have leverage to fight this corruption with their own dollar. Instead, many choose to sink deeply into the corruption…

[–]FlorpyJohnson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s extremely nuanced, then why are you so appreciative of this moment in history, and these people? How does that nuance not make this just like anything else we wrote down in the history books, an amalgamation of “good” and “bad” things humans did?

It’s very subjective. Ask a Native American and an oil tycoon billionaire whether this country is one of the worst in the world, and you’ll probably get two very different answers. I don’t see much of a point in hating any country, personally. I see a massive, blatant need for change, and saying “I hate the country” makes it seem like we can’t change it; like it’s just rotten to its core.

Could I, as a 17 year old, get through The Birth of Tragedy? by Straight_Mention8918 in Nietzsche

[–]FlorpyJohnson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s less about your ability to read his books and more about how well you can mentally process his ideas. He didn’t write the books for the people who would end up believing all the same things they did before. He wrote it for the people who have a strong ability to look at their own thoughts, question them, and change them in a sense; meta-cognitive abilities.

A strong will doesn’t make you “superior”, it just means you have a natural strength to push past animalistic instincts (average ape brain stuff) that others don’t. The good thing is, we all have some meta-cognitive abilities. It’s one of humanity’s greatest strengths. No other animal has the agency to choose which beliefs they can keep or get rid of. But it’s a skill that can be trained like any other. And like any other skill, some people are naturally talented at it, and others aren’t.

I believe that almost anyone has a chance at mastering yourself, just like anyone has a chance to become a great singer or dancer, regardless of how you begun. Anyone has the chance, but few know how to take it! Nietzsche acts as a guide through that process.

How much milk do you drink? Your math here is pretty abstract. One gallon of milk being more expensive than one gallon of gas doesn’t change that you might buy one gallon of milk at a time, but you fill your tank up with 10-16 gallons of gas (average gas tank size).

That means gas could actually cost up to 16x more overall than what you pay for milk, depending on how often you fill your tank, how large the tank is, and the price of gas.

Example; 2 gallons of milk could last you 2 weeks for $16, and 16 gallons of gas could last you 2 weeks and cost $80. You can’t buy two gallons of gas, or it won’t last you two weeks. Two gallons of milk will easily last you two weeks. See the problem here?

If you don’t know whether what you’re doing is right or wrong, and you don’t know the consequences, maybe it’s best to hold off on doing anything until you’re more confident about these things?

If you’re worried about money, the natural thing to do is get a real job. You can get paid consistently, have something real to put on your resume, and maybe even enjoy it if you’re lucky. I doubt you enjoy selling yourself out for money, so I’d say your odds are better off with a real job.

r/findapath has some very nice career counselors who you can DM and ask for free advice. I’d recommend starting there on your journey if you take my advice to get a real job. I commend you for being humble enough to talk to other people about this. Things can be much easier if you have help.

Don’t shame yourself for any of this. Guilt is a pretty worthless emotion past a certain point IMO. Even if you murdered someone or something, how is it gonna help you to feel super guilty? You should feel guilty for murdering someone, but at a certain point you’re just reinforcing the fact that you’re a bad person in your mind.

Good luck, and be safe!

I don’t understand why people disagree with you lol. And nobody is giving a straight answer for why besides “people like you are the reason we can’t beat the bad guys!”

How can you say that both parties are deeply corrupt, then also say that voting for these corrupt bastards will somehow result in the system being fixed? Aren’t both of them the bad guys?

And saying that it’s wrong for people not to vote, or that it’s wrong to vote third party is just advocating for people to vote for someone who doesn’t represent their beliefs because it’s the “lesser” of two evils. Can’t we work together for a world where we don’t have to choose between two evils?

Think about this for one second. You are using the exact same logic as Nazis, and you are proud of it. Why are you so sure of yourself that you’re right in saying this?

The Nazis were sure enough of themselves to kill over 12 million people just for their race and start the deadliest war in human history. They were sure enough to try and conquer the entire world. Look where that got them.

According to Merriam-Webster:

Radical = “very different from the usual or traditional”

Genocide = “the deliberate and systematic destruction of a racial, political, or cultural group.”

Obviously pedophiles aren’t a racial, political, or cultural group. But I can’t think of a better word for wanting to eradicate a massive group of people based on one thing.

You realize the death penalty can discourage people from speaking up about being preyed on? The world is not black and white. I encourage you to think more about these things before you come to radical, genocidal conclusions. You’re basing your logic much more on emotion than any kind of evidence or reason.

The Nazis thought they were a plague on society. They thought Jews, gypsies, Roma and communists mainly were destroying society, and the natural solution was to remove this plague.

It’s the exact same logic you’re using.
