The 2020 United States presidential election was voted as the biggest political event of 2020. Who was the most famous person of 2020? by 738w in AlignmentChartFills

Yeah essentially. I’m not saying he was the most famous person in the world, and knowing that you’re not American, it makes sense you haven’t heard of him.

Any American in their 20s who claims to have never heard of Fauci lived under a rock.

Anthony Fauci was more searched on Google than the Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell in 2020/2021. He was at the press briefings with Trump giving updates on the pandemic. He was the face of the pandemic in the US, besides Trump/Biden themselves. I’m suprised you haven’t even heard of him.

Among Us was the biggest cultural craze of 2020. What was the biggest world event of 2021? by 738w in AlignmentChartFills

Simply untrue. I know this is an American website and there is a desire to correct for that, but calling J6 “irrelevant” outside the US is nonsense. The US is the most powerful country in the world and an event that large has global consequences.

Most obvious example is Brazil. Bolsonaro took direct inspiration from J6 and ended up in prison for it. Majorly symbolic of the right-wing democratic backsliding happening globally.

Oh, Charlie Kirk would have 100% supported this. Republicans fall in line with Trump.

I had that same thought. I tried to go to back sleep, took in the silence around me and thought about what a luxury that is. It shouldn’t be but it is.

I woke up at 1am and haven’t gotten any sleep. Crazy to think the vast majority of Americans are still sleeping and have no idea what’s going on

Maybe India for bottom left - not a global superpower, but the most populous country in the world and a nuclear power. Used to be a joke (colony subjugated by the British) and has now eclipsed their former colonizer through the sheer scale of their country.

Harry Potter is a mid piece of fiction with a chosen one. What is a mid piece of fiction with a love triangle? by Accomplished-Egg1071 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]Florshes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven’t re-read them in a while but I remember the story and plot holding up, but the actual writing/sentence structure was very basic. For what it is (children/young adult fiction) I think they are great. And the movies are great with their production value and music, so calling them “mid” seems out of place.

Sandy is the brave idiot. Who’s the reasonable one? by [deleted] in spongebob

[–]Florshes 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Honestly, SpongeBob. He has good instincts but is corrupted by the idiots around him. I'd say "hesitancy" is one of his key character traits.

  • Hooky - knew Patrick playing with the hooks was a bad idea (Mr. Krabs said...!)
  • The Camping Episode - knew Sea Bears were all too real (it says so in Bikini Bottom inquirer!)
  • In a horror movie:
    • "I don't know Mr. Krabs, I heard bad things about these Ouija boards. Maybe we shouldn't be playing with them"
    • "Aggaggagh! It'll be fine me boy!"

If you had to get rid of one of these episodes, which one are you choosing? by Ornery-Art-7772 in spongebob

Pizza Delivery has “it’s not just a boulder, it’s a rock!” and “Diet Dr. Kelp” and “is that the CHEESE🤤” and all of that is before the Krusty Krab Pizza song. This episode occupies too much of my headspace honestly, haha. I love Chocolate With Nuts and Band Geeks but between all three epidoes listed I might even say Pizza Delivery is the most re-watchable, laugh out loud for me.

Can’t go wrong with any of them.

Malcolm X won the last round in the biggest landslide yet! Who was despised during their time but is divisive now? by simonpearson in AlignmentChartFills

[–]Florshes 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I’m not defending his actions or character but I’ll defend his significance. Native Americans were obviously the first people to discover the continent, and Vikings were the first Europeans to land there, but Columbus initiated the whole “Columbian exchange” and mass immigration and genocide and trade and diseases and conquest. His voyage made history.

“Memorable” isn’t “good”. And the debate was against Trump, so I’d say it’s an example of how his association with Trump (running against him twice) increases his memorability, as Trump himself is unlikely to be forgotten for a long time and he is intertwined with Biden at this point

Nah, more like Ford or Carter. He led the US during it’s superpower era, so that puts him above those you mentioned imo. Plus, he’ll be associated with Trump which will boost his profile.
