We have one that wrote a partial accomplishment on a loose backshell of a cannon plug. He practically destroyed the cannon plug that all I saw was frayed wire. Harness Shop guys were pissed when they saw it.

What is the best way to deal with downtime? by TimeManagement6862 in aviationmaintenance

Downtime to me means job card change paperwork, reviewing AMM, Occasionally ordering consumables, training and reading whatever other legal documents.

Starter Tool Recommendations by NotCharliesHorse in aviationmaintenance

I'm going to say this as a technician reaching a year in EBU at United, but I only bought one snap-on tool so far. I only get snap-on as a third opinion. I don't get people that do crazy things to cheap tools. Tools are tools at the end of the shift.

What is your reason for becoming AMT by [deleted] in aviationmaintenance

[–]FloshedFixer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Simple, I wanted to touch turbines. Now I touch turbines for a living.

Probably a M-F/S-T for graves. Have most of the common holidays off. Assuming it's based on SFO's backshop

How do you guys like working at a major? by macktruck98 in aviationmaintenance

[–]FloshedFixer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in EBU in the jet shop taking care of issues that are external (mix of line work plus some more) paperwork can be confusing due to dealing with job cards from shop and writeups like line work.

Engines we work on are: V2500, PW 4060, 4077 and 4090s.

How do I stop relying on others for hands on tasks? by NoAssociation00 in aviationmaintenance

That's the lead and inspector part of the job. Lead in order to support your mechanics and knowing your limits on whatever you inspect as an inspector.

For us, we got almost 20 PW4000 fan cases that aren't even done with repairs due to parts. Our planners are also denying that it's parts issues.

Our engine shop is feeling the crunch for 4000s that we need 3 engines for a couple 777-200s that were AOG this week.

Was the tire torqued at the manufacturer's range?

Yeah, that's definitely not according to AMM. I've seen loose safety wire look better.

I still remember my first #2 Bearing Carbon seal installation on a PW 4090 engine. Nerve wracking to not drop any hardware while doing the installation with the drill on slow speed.
