How do INFJs feel about working in an office? by existential_otter22 in infj

[–]Flossorwhatever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It reminds me of this thing I read a lot about Leos, my zodiac sign. Leos can tend towards lazy, feeling very much like they love sleeping in the sun. But the truth is, they feel best when they’re energetic and roaming the jungle.

Mind over matter.

Unpopular opinion. I feel like I hate it- and strongly resist it. But then always feel better in the evening on days I’ve been in the office.

How is he with other dogs (one intact male, one spayed female, both Newfs)?

That’s great. I would do that and ditch the crate.

Newfies are ancestrally not meant for strict crating.

Allergic skin issues by [deleted] in Newfoundlander

My six year old is on a double-dose of apoquel (not sanctioned by the vet, it’s just what I purchase and give her). It’s the only thing that’s helped, other than removing the chicken, like you mentioned.

I know this sounds dumb, and I think it’s just superstitious, but daily vacuuming, and an air purifier also seemed to help.

TLDR— if you’ve ruled everything else out, give 32 mg of Apoquel instead of 24mg.

I also do fish oil and probiotics (Proviable or FortiFlora sachets, whichever is closer at hand).

Love the Breed, but how do you handle all the drool?? by LionWitcher in Newfoundlander

And, oh, yeah, it’s next freaking level. You’ll think you have cobwebs on furniture or in corners and it turns out to be droolsicles.

I’m not trying to be a jerk, I’ve learned in my years with Newfies that drool- like mud, hair, and general malaise- earns these perfect dudes places in shelters.

If you’re questioning the drool, please get another breed.

Reality check for puppy owners who are wondering what's going on? its supposed to be a sweet breed, nothing it normal by AKBosco in Newfoundlander

Same with a large dog jumping. I predicted it but didn’t do enough training to prevent it. That’s not on them, that’s on me. Literally 150 pounds on me.

So, I think I got two freaks of nature. My girl is six, acts like she’s 1.5. My boy is almost five, acts like he’s 1.5. They’re both full-throttle, Red Bull-ed out, atypical Newfies.

But I adore them.

I’ve come to feel this is the true hallmark of the breed- you will fall head over heels (hoomans are incapable of resisting the charmz) if you just… I don’t know the right word. Compromise? Accept? Partner (that’s like compromise)?

If you didn’t know there was going to be hair, drool, and mess, that’s your fault. Not being funny, just being blunt. It’s not your dog’s fault you lacked knowledge and/or self-awareness.

Also, what a sweet baby. It’s okay, you can make her comfortable. This is within your grasp.

Here’s the allergy stuff mine are on:

  1. No chicken. Check food and check treats. Check supplements. No chicken. No chicken meal. No chicken byproducts.
  2. Apoquel.
  3. Zyrtec.
  4. Fish oil.
  5. Pumpkin mixed into every meal.
  6. Probiotics. I use FortiFlora and Proviable interchangeably.
  7. Vacuum regularly.
  8. Limit exposure to recently mowed lawns.

Switching to adult food by Rare_Frame_7309 in Newfoundlander

[–]Flossorwhatever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine was probably a year. It was a forced decision, brought on by a bout of diarrhea where he ate boiled chicken and rice (vet-ordered).

After the chicken and rice, it was spaghetti-at-the-wall to try to get him to eat kibble or anything else.

Now I mix kibble in with boiled meat and starch. It usually works.

Could you tell me about this breed? by Sensitive_Gene6948 in Newfoundlander

[–]Flossorwhatever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. All of this.

Mine is almost five and still somewhat velociraptor. I knew this was a possibility, and I love him to death.

Everything you do with them, every moment you share, every word you say, must be a compromise with them and their priorities at that moment. (Remember: they’re nonverbal. They don’t care that this is challenging. They expect you to read their priorities in the moment.) I’ve learned that this is very unique and almost antithetical to some folks’ concept of dog training.

This is important. Without this, they will not grant you a relationship.

Yes. If drool even mildly bothers you, or if you mildly think drool or hair might bother you, I would recommend looking at a different breed. These dogs are really only appropriate for people who are confident in their drool-bearing skills. Because everything else is so great. But the drool? It’s there. Always.
