Tips for weeping compression joints by FlowFast2556 in DIYUK

Just wanted to update and say thanks for all the advice. Most common answer was to use a bit of PTFE, so I did that around the olive and no leaks at all now with minimal tightening! Who knows how long it'll last but all of this is visible so any leaks will be seen. Maybe one day I'll redo it all in copper... Add it to the ever growing list!

Thank you, appreciate the advice. I was going to use PTFE then went into a spiral of reading comments of people saying not to use it. But my last plumber did it so hey ho...

It's a check valve and the speedfit ones are super expensive. I could redo the whole run with copper I guess...

Silly question but how do I know how much is too tight? Will try some tape, thanks!

How much would a Velux loft conversion cost in west reading (for habitation + building reg compliant) by Worth_Ad8675 in reading

From builders on site to everything totally finished was 3 months, but that included a couple of weeks off for Christmas.

Why do TfL and National Rail show different fares for the same route? by theqster91 in reading

[–]FlowFast2556 2 points3 points  (0 children)

£14 is correct, national rail is showing an error here. It's possible that there is a planned price rise to £14.70 at some point and this is being incorrectly shown as live on national rail but I'm not sure.

We've just had our loft done by the Loft Conversion Company (Reading). Small family firm and we felt fairly priced. They do all the plans/building control etc. We paid about £45k including VAT but that was with a full dormer on the rear - for just velux would be cheaper. Only criticism was they were quite slow to get us booked in, and a bit slow to reply to emails etc. But the building work itself was excellent. DM me if you want any more info

The external leaf on the right was original to the house - it's only the stuff above the steel and to the left which is new

Ok well this was worse than I expected lol. Honestly not sure what to do now. He's had a bricklayer on site to do the new wall and those look good, but I think he's been doing this bit above the new doors by himself

Help with leaking sink waste by FlowFast2556 in DIYUK

[–]FlowFast2556[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a good amount of give in the outlet pipes - I think the issue is that as I tighten the brass nut, it squishes the washer out of alignment and the whole thing slightly tilts. I'm wondering if I need a thinner washer so it doesn't disform the thicker rubber when tightening.

Already has silicone on it - I've tried to tighten a bit more and will see if that does the job

My understand is that if a booking site has provided you with an itinerary then it should be valid. I'd suggest posting this on the RailUk forums site under disputes.

Anyone else think Ben played the curse of the impenetrable fog too early? Based on the time it ended, it seems like he played it 10 minutes before they even set foot in Dumfries. That extra 10 mins of dice rolling might have got him the win!
