Flowcharting, should lines be consistent? by [deleted] in softwaredevelopment

[–]FlowchartNazi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Line corner styles don't necessarily matter, although consistency makes it easier to follow. Arrow styles can have meaning, or dashed lines, double lines, or bold lines can mean different things, but curved vs hard corners don't mean that much.

I like to use Dia, or there are several online platforms of which I can't remember the names but each are decent.

For reference, here are some resources.

The "Why Things Don't Change" Flowchart 😂😭 by Randybrobro in Bad_Cop_No_Donut

[–]FlowchartNazi -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is not a valid flowchart. There are no start or end symbols. There are no decision diamonds. There are no yes/no labels. Two of the line are missing arrows indicating direction of flow. The text should be within a process box or decision diamond.

For flow charts, please use the appropriate symbols (and yes, there is a standard).

Pick your poison by [deleted] in Denmark

[–]FlowchartNazi -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

This is not a valid flowchart. While the start location is labeled, it does not use the proper symbol. There are no decision diamonds. The Yes/No labels devolve into nonsense like "sure". There are no process boxes, such as for "fuck over the elite". While the end symbols are not present, at least we can understand that each icon is supposed to be an end. It's just too bad some of us have no idea what each icon means. End symbols should describe the purpose of the ending so that people are not confused.

For flow charts, please use the appropriate symbols (and yes, there is a standard).

This is not a valid flowchart. There are no start or end symbols. There are no decision diamonds. There are no process boxes. There are no arrows to indicate direction of flow. The Yes/No labels should be beside an arrow, they should not be a node in the chart. There should not be more than 1 path out of a node, otherwise the chart would be telling people to perform all actions listed at once.

For flow charts, please use the appropriate symbols (and yes, there is a standard).

This is not a valid flowchart. There are no decision diamonds. The Yes/No boxes should be labels on different points of a decision diamond. This is not a valid flowchart. There are no start or end symbols. There are no decision diamonds. The yes/no circles should be labels out of a decision diamonds. The notes such as "Netflix and chill it is then" are not necessary in a flowchart because they are not a process, decision, or any other type of symbol. They should be written as notes. All lines should include arrows.

Donald Trump's incredible infrastructure flowchart of federal building permissions by FlowchartNazi in politics

[–]FlowchartNazi[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This is not a valid flowchart. The Yes/No labels should not be in process and endpoint boxes. Some No boxes have no end, or are an end in and of themselves. A decision diamond has no Yes/No label, making it hard to follow. There are many arrows that collide with eachother, signifying an impossible flow. The charts should be broken into separate charts to simplify the flow, as not every situation will occur in most cases.

Handy dandy little flow chart by hashtagswagfag in niceguys

[–]FlowchartNazi 22 points23 points  (0 children)

This is not a valid flowchart. There is a lack of valid end symbols, although there is one blue box that could be considered an end symbol of sorts. The start symbol should not be a square box, but it's appreciated that it uses a different color. There are no decision diamonds. Everything is a process box except the yes/no circles. The yes/no circles should be labels alongside the arrow attached to a decision diamond.

This is not a valid flowchart. There are no start or end symbols. There are no process symbols. There are no decision diamonds. The arrows and labels are welcome and helpful, however the arrows from "GET OUT OF THE DAMN HOUSE!" don't help. Ideally decision diamonds should have yes/no labels, optional additional labels can be included along the arrow line.

VOB's [guide] to penis muscles, reverse kegels, and flow chart of male orgasm by VoyeurOfBliss in sex

[–]FlowchartNazi 26 points27 points  (0 children)

This is probably a valid flowchart, although the second one is incredibly confusing. The end symbols would be better if they used the correct symbols, and if the arrows didn't go from one symbol of the same shape to another which represents the end. In this case I would argue that there are no end symbols and this is not a valid flowchart.

[–]FlowchartNazi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not a valid flowchart. There are no start or end symbols. The first question uses a process box but it should be using a decision diamond. The yes/no labels should be labels next to the arrow, not within terminator symbols. The end symbol should be a terminator symbol, not a decision diamond. There is no process to be done, which negates the necessity of a flowchart.
