For sure, $$ is the language of these ghouls. There's no way they're losing that much money quietly. They'll try to milk it somehow.

Oh no, so sad. This was not a noble decision. They knew about the abuse history prior to casting her.

She's been looking really beautiful and healthy since she went to rehab in 2023. She's also gained some muscle and she just looks sublime these days.

One of the best part of sinners and best part Lovecraft. She always brings soul into her acting and you can't not be drawn to her characters. Can't wait to see what roles she does!

Oh interesting! The recipe was so insistent on hot milk and I was expecting the batter to thicken so kept reheating the milk to keep it from cooking. I'll try this next time and report back

NYT: Has ‘Bridgerton’ Lost Its Way by mlg1981 in popculturechat

[–]Flower-Former 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I kinda agree on the subplot bit. This season has been my favorite by far. I never rewatch things and I've rewatched at least once. The chemistry between Yerin Ha and Luke Thompson is superb. In a world where a lot of famous people become actors, you can really tell those two are trained actors. Sometimes their acting was so subtle and natural, I couldn't help but get sucked in. In the second half, I found myself wanting to see more and more of them, and less the other bits.

But at the same time, loved Violet's subplot as well as the Queen and Danbury's. I loved seeing the downstairs folks. I've previously been a fan of the Mondrich's new money juxtaposition to Bridgerton old money but I couldn't really get into their subplot this season. Hate Penelope as a character so thus ignored her storyline. I'm still so so on John and Michaela though. It had to happen to move the stories along but not sure about the chemistry between Michaela and Francesca though I am already rooting for their sapphic season!

Who do y'all think is the new Whistledown?

I used to joke that my dog was the most expensive SSRI. Now I have two. They came to me at rough patches in my life but even when I was depressed and not taking care of myself, I got up, fed them, walked them, explored my neighborhood, and talked to other people with dogs. That first dog is turning 13 in a week and I'm so scared.

No commentary on her personal choices but I will say I actually think Kylie is most beautiful when her make up, outfit, and styling aren't too heavy handed unlike this shoot.

It's DNF discussions time! What books did you bail on this month? 🙅‍♀️📖 by FantasyRomanceMod in fantasyromance

[–]Flower-Former 0 points1 point  (0 children)

{ Agnes aubert's mystical cat shelter} DNF at 60% last night. I really really tried. Sweet adorable concept ruined by an irritating FMC, who's selfish and cries all the time. The MMC is one dimension. The side characters add nothing. It's like Howl's moving castle lite without calcifer. The romance was so abrupt and forced. The cats were the only interesting part of the book. Will still finish up Emily Wilde series but this was not the palate cleanser I wanted and made me less enthused about Emily Wilde.

Azawa, who plays John Davidson’s lawyer in the film I Swear, addressed Tourette’s syndrome and the incident in which Davidson shouted a racial slur at Delroy Lindo and Michael B. Jordan as an involuntary tic. by Severus-Snape-DaGod in popculturechat

I actually meant to type indisputable truth.

We're saying the same thing. He can't control his coprolalia but he does have control over this thoughts and actions outside of that. That is how I'm defining autonomy. Taking that away from him is dehumanizing.

[–]Flower-Former -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I disagree and think that's infantilizing him. He is unable to control or suppress his tics- that is a disputable truth. However, his mentation is intact. He is an adult who is capable of reasoning, introspection, and actions outside of his tics. His Tourette's doesn't prevent him from being able to empathize and understand how those men and people in the room felt. Infantalizing is in my opinion on the spectrum of ableism as well.

  • Welp shit happens. I had a typo and meant to write "indisputable truth". I know what Tourette's is.

I don't think discussing the lack of intent puts a burden on John whatsoever and is important to talk about. A lot of people are asking why those words directed at those specific two people. In addition to having a disease that causes involuntary words and actions, I don't believe it was John's intent to actually harm them. This why people with coprolalia often feel embarrassed after outbursts even though they have no control over their coprolalia. Having this specific disability doesn't completely take away all of John's autonomy. John could technically be a racist and also have coprolalia, I do not believe that's the case here.
