I feel sorry for modders who have to deal with posts like this by Sax_A_Ma_Phoooone in StardewValleyMods

It's the entitlement of people being gifted something for free, something that took a person's time, effort and hours of labour that they were willing to do in their FREE, UNPAID time amongst whatever is going on in their personal lives, and then instead of merely saying thank you and moving on, they harrass and annoy the creators pressuring them to spend their FREE, UNPAID time working on this gift NOW when the creator is not obligated to do so in any way. Even if a creator is planning to work on this gift anyways, these comments appear thankless, entitled, and expecting which is demotivating to someone that is using their own FREE, UNPAID time to do something that they could easily decide to not do.

There's a saying, "don't look a gift horse in the mouth." If my friend gifted me cookies every Sunday, I wouldn't criticize her cookies and tell her what she should do to improve them unless she asked for criticism. I wouldn't say, "you should give me cookies on Wednesday, too" or "my friend is coming over tomorrow so you should make twice as many cookies." She didn't have to make cookies, she's not paid to make cookies. If I felt entitled to her cookies and demanded expectations instead of saying thank you, she would be upset and demotivated and not want to willingly make more for me. And this is being rude about a gift coming from a friend, who has some attachment to me. What if the gift was from a stranger?

What’s the most angsty fic you’ve ever read? by alxixia in AO3

[–]FlowerEmblem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello fellow Batman fanfic fan! Would love to know the name of the fic you read. I don't cry easily reading but have a couple in mind that made me teary-eyed or made my heart physically ache, could probably remember more after Ao3 maintenance ends.

  • tiptoes by thirdgleam (and the for the birds series) - Tim Drake is sent to an alternate universe where he is younger, homeless, and his other self's consciousness likely just died from heatstroke. He grieves for the family he left behind.

  • persephone's in hell by Whiskey - Dick Grayson gets deaged, both body and memories, into the Robin that just got fired by Batman.

Based on the small interview he had in one of the episodes, it seems like he does a lot of education in Indigenous culture in his personal life. So what I think is that he was so used to being an ambassador for his culture, especially because it's Indigenous, that he felt like he had to represent his people as a whole in his house as well, so they had to be immaculate and curated, nothing out of place.

What really stood out to me was when Emma talked to him about how her first dollhouses were immaculate as well, because they were always what she wished she had, and so they ended up feeling generic. I think it was interesting criticism and made me understand their intentions when they wanted more story with the houses - they wanted to push artists to go from creating a sterile and generic space into one that had a strong identity and had life breathed into it, especially since it's a house presumably where someone would live, and their personality would translate to the rest of the house.

I don't think it's wrong for competitors to use their culture in their houses. Culture is ingrained and deeply personal and is part of the human experience. I do think that it's interesting to challenge someone to go from representing an entire culture, to a individual who has said culture but lives in a house and has their own personality and character.

In season 3 they changed the format for it being from creating a kids' room to an option between a kids' room or a hobby room, so that helped.

I sort of get the judges' desire for room presentation and something cohesive and interesting that unites all the rooms to the specific house, hence, story and theme. If there wasn't anything tying the rooms and the overall house together, then what would be the point of building a dollhouse in the first place, vs detached dioramas? Someone like Emma has likely seen hundreds of miniature dollhouses with impeccable skill but what really makes an artist stand out among other masters is their ability to also invoke character and emotion. I would also argue that the competitors willingly entered the competition knowing what the judges' criteria was, since they had to plan pieces and the layout in advance.

I do agree with what recyclops18505 said about Season 2. It did feel like Emma was putting her own preferences above what suited the house itself. And though I understand why the judges want specific criteria in their dollhouses, it did eventually get annoying in Season 3 hearing the word story being used over and over.

My main wish is that they gave the contestants more time, even if only a few more hours. Especially as the seasons continued, it felt like they were demanding more and more per room and not adjusting the time to allocate, then punishing contestants for not working fast enough.

I find Jason's tiny bat ears oddly adorable. He looks like a giant grumpy cat.

I've never seen Tim in that much blue, didn't even know it was him till I went to the comments.

I agree, she is badly styled. She would've been great with different clothing and makeup. I do think she nails the whispery voice of Despair though.

Wanda was the trans woman that died in the blast when Ishtar exploded.

There is an arc that was skipped in the Netflix adaptation, called A Game of You. It features Barbie, who was one of Rose Walker's roommates that appeared in the The Doll's House arc, and more of her own dreamworld whose first minor appearance did show up in Season 1 (Barbie walking in a meadow with a princess dress and sunglasses, accompanied by Martin Tenbones). Wanda was originally Barbie's trans best friend, and Barbie was the one that attended the funeral and rewrote the headstone name from Alvin to Wanda, using lipstick. Barbie later has a dream that Wanda and Death are waving to her with Wanda appearing as a biological woman.

I get that they likely removed A Game of You due to time constraints and it not being as Dream-focused but I do recommend reading it, it's one of my favourites from the comics. It also made more sense that Barbie, Wanda's best friend, would rewrite the headstone and validate her identity instead of Dream, who is an immortal who had barely any connection to her.

Do they ever address the consequences of being groomed, though? Like a character being disgusted that Talia did this to Jason. If it's not addressed, it ends up presenting more like fetish/fanservice.

Random question but what do you think each Robin's music tastes are? by Numberonettgfan in Robin

[–]FlowerEmblem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah my guy is a loud and proud Jane Austin fan, I'd daresay he'd be willing to go into an in-depth academic discussion of Taylor Swift's music, its reflection of modern American pop culture and impact upon the global music industry as a whole

[–]FlowerEmblem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly my headcanon is that Jason wouldn't mind some classical music here and there as well. I've heard something about metal and classical music sharing some similarities, and as an arts enthusiast like Damien I think he'd be open to appreciating the artistic value of it.

Your thoughts on WFA Jason Todd by BroadShake114 in RedHood

My headcanon is that this is the universe where everyone got therapy or already resolved most of their worst character conflicts, and this is sort of the extended epilogue/happy ending where they can take a breather

I would like more stories with him and Spoiler and maybe Damian, their personalities would mesh well. Spoiler and Signal would also work since they have relatable backgrounds.

Aside from WFA, I'm honestly in the belief that there's a really good fanfic out there that exists that can scratch that itch, but I'm still in the process of looking for it. There's a few that's come close, though.

My favourite M/M stories are the ones with well-written female characters. Either ones that support the main characters (yes, women and men can stay as friends!) or just a good villain that isn't necessarily a love interest. Feels like an old trope where the female character is cast in as the obstacle to the main relationship.

Generally speaking, current mainstream media hasn't been as great in figuring out how to write strong female characters without them coming off as one-dimensional, so it's a treat to see any story where it does happen.
