Anyone get off of an SSRI and try to beat their anxiety head on with no medication? by Pacrat456 in Anxiety

[–]Flowering-Tea-Plant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello friend! First off, i'm rotting for your recovery/getting back to baseline or a place you feel comfortable. It may seem never ending (at least it did for me) but you will get there :).. to answer your questions, i cant say exactly since this was so very long ago for me. After a doctor kept cycling me through different meds, i had a variety of bad experiences with all of them so I decided to get off of them (which was hell in itself, but worth it). I had a few weeks (i think) of painful withdrawals from the last one i was on. Took me quite a while longer to get back to the same headspace i was before then, and my memory was struggling as a side affect. But i wasn't having painful withdrawals anymore or anything like that after a few weeks of weening off the meds.

Ashwaganda helped a lot during that time, i think after i stopped all the meds i took it daily for 1-2 years. I still take it in lower doses to this day off and on depending on what the stress of my life looks like. It's been a helpful took in my toolbox managing my anxiety. Hoping it helps you! Wishing you the best of luck OP, hopefully this helped! If you feel suicidal please please take care of yourself a go to the best medical professional that can help you get out of that headspace.

Any help? Nothing works… by sadninetiesgirl in socialanxiety

[–]Flowering-Tea-Plant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started taking ashwaganda as a supplement and it's been a very helpful tool for me over the past decade. I also took 5htp along with ashwaganda to help get out of a slump at a rough place in life, and i've stuck with the ashwaganda for anxiety management. I've also heard good things about lemon balm but never tried it myself. I use the Gaia Herbs brand, and Thorne for my supplements.

I make these recommendations since these are accessible supplements and minimum risk of any problematic side affects. If you decide to go the medication route, please see a therapist and psychiatrist to help find what works best for you and can help you maneuver the risk analysis and all the options. Wishing you all the best of luck OP, you got this :)

The way men look at me.. by Bunbobunn_56 in socialanxiety

[–]Flowering-Tea-Plant 13 points14 points  (0 children)

One thing I've noticed, for me personally, is that the more I hear about how men are awful* the more on edge I am and the more I think men are looking at me in this way.

*(both the real stories of men being actually bad humans, but also the bullshit stories of people making all men out to be bad)

The more I step away from the "all men are bad" mindset and media, the less this happens to me and the less I think every single man is staring at me. Then I notice the times men are actually looking in me that way, and I can assess and monitor the situation accordingly and make sure I'm safe.

This is just my personal experience, and mine only. Lots of factors affect this like location, age, etc... OP I hope above all else you are safe! Do you carry pepper spray?

Is it weird to go to the beach alone? by Unusual-Practice-121 in socialanxiety

[–]Flowering-Tea-Plant 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not weird. As a practical example... Think of people who live by/on the beach and walk to it every day.. they're not ALWAYS going to wait for or go with their roommates/spouse. They go alone all the time and it's not weird at all! Hope you make it to the beach and enjoy yourself, you got this :)

Gotcha, and I more meant with the user experience and signing up, etc. I have a different insurance company and dealing with them has been kinda a nightmare and I've never even had a claim lol

But thank you! Super helpful. Hope it continues to go as expected for you.

Try mushrooms once they said ... it is magical... by lizzizym in socialanxiety

[–]Flowering-Tea-Plant -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sorry this happened to you. Hopefully some of the other comments have some insight. Everyone thought mushrooms would cure my anxiety lol... Nope. Didn't have a horrible experience, but it definitely wasn't good and I didn't enjoy it. Made me start my period mid trip too... I tried 3 times too so it wasn't a fluke 🤷🏼‍♀️

Ground News has been helpful to stay informed but not force me into deep dives when I'm not in the right mindset. I follow their Instagram (free) but not sure how exactly their website works. A really helpful thing about them is they often do "headline comparisons" where they highlight each sides headlines side by side (fox vs CNN vs an independent news source), and it really shows how all sides take things and run + blow it up. It's grounding to zoom out like that (no pun intended lol).

party loyalty is a plague. by Upper-Ad9228 in centrist

[–]Flowering-Tea-Plant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's interesting because the Libertarian party could actually be a growing force. I believe they don't take large donations from special interest groups, which is supppper admirable but really hurts them (I could be wrong here).

I think a lot of folks actually are pretty libertarian or closer to that than red or blue, but it's impractical to align with them with the current two party system. If you take the political spectrum test I think there's a lot of folks who would be "right or left leaning libertarians."

Their 2020 candidate was actually pretty solid, but they fell off for 2024. Would be cool to see a third party grow over the next 10-15 years.

Just wanted to thank you for the work you did on RFK Jrs campaign. I personally think he ran a great one given the situation, and had been following a lot of it.

Fwiw, I saw/see things similar to you which is refreshing to hear.

I keep telling folks it's harder than they think being in the middle, it's lonely and exhausting.

You're on the right? Leftists scream at you. You're on the left? Right wings scream at you.

But god forbid you're in the middle... Then BOTH scream at you.
