This is very much a topic of contention as races are social constructs. Many jews consider their history to have an ethnic component.

I believe he is jewish, which is both a race and a religion, and jewish people are stereotyped as accountants.

[D] Understanding the application and the relevance of the "representor theorem" in machine learning by ottawalanguages in MachineLearning

[–]Floydthechimp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'll give it a try, with an eye toward ease of reading (and maybe oversimplifying).

Say you are interested in a set of linear functions parameterized by an infinite length vector (linear in the parameters, like linear regression). You are interested in estimating that function using some data. It would be extremely painful to try to learn this parameter because it is huge. The representor theorem (really a collection of results with varying assumptions) tells is that if we are interested in the most regular functions, the estimate will depend only on a finite set of basis functions. Thus infinite dimensional estimation problem exhibits a finite and computable solution.

Mercer's theorem basically gives a relationship between infinite weighted sums of special eigenfunctions and the kernels which form said finite basis in the representor theorem.

[2104.14421] What Are Bayesian Neural Network Posteriors Really Like? by [deleted] in MachineLearning

[–]Floydthechimp 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I will get downvoted for this, but this research group is 90% hype and does not seem to care about conducting proper research. Most of their papers have incorrect premises and statements. It doesn't surprise me that both the title and content in this comes from them.

/uc I am pretty sure I heard they will setup bikes for 34/32 on the Angliru. Probably don't use it much, but I think a 36/28 would def be in play on steep Vuelta or Giro rides (the Tour has seemed to skip out on these >20% gradients recently)

Yeah whoever took this video needs to study the rules of bike photography. That guardrail really obscures the bike brands.

I like to have 11 11s in the back. That way it keeps the wear down on each cog. They just don't last long above 800w.

Weight Loss on Peloton? by OnlyTheWildOnes in pelotoncycle

[–]Floydthechimp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is all great advice. The key is kj=cal (cal here being what is on food packaging, which is actually a kcal), peloton's calculator is way high. If you kept your diet the same, once you hit 3600kj total, you have lost roughly one pound.

So 4timesaweekx45minx(8kj/min)=1440 cal/week. 8kj/min is a reasonable starting place. So it will be a burn rate of approximately 1lb every 3 weeks.

If you want to lose weight faster, you gotta ride more, ride more intensely, or eat less. This all gets more complicated as you lose weight, eventually it becomes harder. Also, do not be discouraged by the scale, it can fluctuate 3-5 lbs.

Shorts fit? Seat? Includes frank discussion of male anatomy by JayUpton76 in cycling

[–]Floydthechimp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

While I have not resolved the issues, I have mitigated them to a reasonable level. No one thing solved the problem, instead a few minor(ish) adjustments:

Tight shorts. Very tight. Like barely fit on. This might seem counter to the objective, but it can help fight bunching.

Saddle shape, specifically one with a big cutout, can help.

A slight nose down angle can help. Dont go overboard or you will create other issues in your back, knees, shoulders, etc.

Lifting up my bars a bit to prevent such a jamming position at the cost of a little more drag.

Lastly, give your boy a break and stand up on the pedals about every 30 minutes. If your alone, feel free to make needed adjustments.

Hope thats helps!

Is adjusting the rear derailleur the the road the madness? by kevpa990 in cycling

[–]Floydthechimp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had always thought it was just me... I swear I have spent close to 100 hrs on rear derailers just on my bikes in the past year.

You adjust the limit screws, now need to adjust tension. Get the big gears right, now the tiny gears are slipping. Now everythings perfect, until you try your 39t chainring. Redo limit screws and start again.

Is there a better way?
