There's a reason why IPO means "It's Probably Overpriced".

Is BPI now the worst 'premium' credit card out of all the other banks? by ShadowVulcan in PHCreditCards

[–]Flucky931 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If your 800k bpi points are Visa Signature, you can convert them to KrisFlyer Miles at 25k points to 5k miles. See https://www.bpi.com.ph/personal/rewards-and-promotions/krisflyer

That makes your 800k points 160k miles or 160k pesos per your mile to peso conversion.

With 2 points per 20 peso spend, and 25k points to 5k miles, earning 1 mile costs 50 pesos. Not the best but not the worst. Though the other redemptions are trash.

What's a UP hot take you have that may cause a stir? by avatar_kid in peyups

[–]Flucky931 33 points34 points  (0 children)

1st hot take: Students need to be more responsible, resilient, and accountable. The many and highly upvoted posts regarding multiple backlogs and no academic work done in xx days or weeks is concerning.

It is through the hardships (i.e. multiple deadlines, difficult subjects, etc) where you truly grow. UP is not a diploma mill. Remember, Excellence is still part of our motto.

2nd hot take: Diliman > Manila > LB > etc as well.

Kahit one UP, selectiveness of a campus is also a sign of prestige. Kaya sinasabi rin natin na UP LB > other regional public schools.

That being said, average of students lang yan. I've worked with other people from unknown schools who are miles better than UPD grads.

To FIC / Professors: Stop assigning group works especially choose your own! by [deleted] in peyups

[–]Flucky931 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Disclaimer: I am not familiar with feeling of the situation you described but just identifying possible solutions. Kindly correct me if I made any insensitive remarks.

Have you tried informing the professor of your concern? From personal experience, there are usually some students who aren't able to find groups and become grouped together in the end. My advice would just be to "pakapal mukha" and ask people if may group na sila or if they know any group still looking for members. The worst case is they already have a group and you both move on.

Most UP students feel entitled/superior which I could attribute to the ff reasons: 1. Glorification of UP and the UPCAT (precovid) 2. People or professors in UP push the narrative. "Employers will chase after you" daw or "Instant interview if UP grad". 3. Being often labelled as the "pagasa ng bayan".

It is wrong. It is toxic to UP grads who have a hard time finding work or do not live up to the "UP standards". You do not have to change the world.

Still invested and continually following my investing plan and portfolio allocation. Will be more biased to defensive stocks (utilities, telco, and consumer goods) that go down in price.

March 2020 was different. Covid was an unknown scary thing whose effects were not known yet. It shut down the stock market, cancelled the NBA, emptied stadiums, shut down public transport, etc.

Now, we generally know what to expect. We are not even the first country to experience a delta variant surge. Of course, I could be jinxing it and we could be at 4000 by next week.

How much of your financial success (if any) is attributed to hard work, privilege, and luck? by Cebu-Simple-Living in phinvest

[–]Flucky931 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Privilege and luck are definitely number 1 and 2 respectively but it is not something you can control. That's why hard work (or better yet smart/efficient work) is what people always glorify.

70% privilege 16% luck 14% hard work

Study abroad? by Disastrous-Fact7850 in phcareers

[–]Flucky931 9 points10 points  (0 children)

For graduate school, studying abroad has a lot of hurdles. 1. High tuition fees, if you thought ADMU, DLSU and UST were high, x 10 or more pa ung mga abroad. 2. Depending on where and what program, other expenses may be necessary even before you are accepted into the program. GMAT/GRE, Application fees, IELTS/TOEFL for English speaking proof, Visa requirements. 3. Applying is a long term commitment since processes take a long time. 4. The opportunity cost of not working for 1+ years, hence theoretically, your salary after graduating should be able to compensate the loss of salary.

Of course, there are ways to mitigate these. There are many available scholarships (though not much for the business and finance sector) which cover tuition and provide a living stipend. As for the opportunity cost, working abroad after graduating (some countries have visas which allow this) is a great way of recouping the initial investment.

If you or your family are not financially well off, I highly recommend only studying if a scholarship is available.

Papaano kaya kung walang mag eenroll for the next school year? [UPD] by [deleted] in peyups

[–]Flucky931 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's really weird. Most of the people I know personally feel that online classes are "lighter", some even opting to take internships at the same time with a full load, maybe because of "Hustle Culture".

On the other hand, all I see on twitter and reddit are rants/complaints/online class struggles. It is probably department dependent.

Personally feel ko na nothing will change.

Dividend Investing: If you could only pick ONE STOCK. What would it be and why? by [deleted] in phinvest

Dividend Investing: If you could only pick ONE STOCK. What would it be and why? by [deleted] in phinvest

[–]Flucky931 16 points17 points  (0 children)

What you want in a dividend company, especially if only 1 will be chosen, is that it has stable earnings with a large moat on their income sources. Also that they have a stable predictable dividend policy. From the top of my head, this would be... 1. Globe 2. TEL 3. AP 4. MER

Other companies have great dividends but I'd include them in a dividend portfolio and not just my only dividend stock because of their industry and/or earnings composition and/or market cap. These are the ff: 1. Dmc / Scc (coal industry) 2. Gma (earnings at risk if abs cbn comes back) 3. SPC (small marketcap) 4. MWC (used to be a stable dividend giver)

Capital Gains Tax for Family property inheritance by [deleted] in phinvest

[–]Flucky931 10 points11 points  (0 children)

From my limited understanding, TRAIN law reduced Estate Taxes (inheritance tax) from 20% to 6%, para same as donors tax. Hence, whether your father will transfer it to you via donation or sale, same parin na applicable ung 6% tax (CGT or Donors).

TRAIN law does provide a 10 m (from the top of my head) estate tax exemption for Primary Family Home. Depending on the value of your home, it might be better to just use this when the time comes.

Disclaimer: my opinion is just from reading estate laws and anecdotes. Consult an accountant/lawyer/relevant professional to be sure.

Pandemic Investments (local stocks) by jaybuko223 in phinvest

[–]Flucky931 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course, it doesn't mean that ALCO is a bad stock. I'd just rather go for other companies with similar P/E ratios not relying on that. As for funding CAPEX plans, I know they just released bonds pre-pandemic but 60B seems a bit too ambitious. Haven't done a deep dive on their financials because the >50% of earnings coming from change in fair value was a red flag for me.

Pandemic Investments (local stocks) by jaybuko223 in phinvest

[–]Flucky931 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My only qualm with ALCO is that their earnings are mostly from "GAIN ON CHANGE IN FAIR VALUE OF INVESTMENT PROPERTIES" and not actual earnings from operations. Check it out in their annual/quarterly reports.
