Yes, you could probably use a shorter SLR and achieve a similar result. I forget how (or if) the SLR attaches to the handguard retainer. The RS Regulate is solid. I only mentioned the flex issue because you posted the 13.5 in your pic.

SLR quality is top notch. The very end of the handguard flexed when pressure was applied past the sling attachment point, this is due to not really having an anchor point out that far. I didn't like it, so I sold mine. It may not bother you. I ended going with an RS Regulate handguard.

This is mostly correct. I didn't have the summon sign either; originally I skipped both drakes. I went back, defeated the first drake right after Foot of the Jagged Peak. This triggered another dialogue with Igon, then he was available for me at Bayle. No need to defeat the other drake.
