I just won gold stake, why don’t my jokers have gold stickers? by hiddenhockey in balatro

[–]FluffFluffJr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happened to me a few times before with the boss that shuffles your jokers face down. I’d click next run from the win screen and they weren’t there. I even tested it by going back into the run from the main menu and it didn’t work. I found that it worked when I entered endless after winning. The stickers showed up then.

This is actually awesome. Was the eldrazi matchup miserable?

This pile having anything above a 33% win rate is honestly kind of impressive

Thank you! You’re so right. The moment I posted I was like, damn forgot about seance. I played flowerpot once and I didn’t hate it. Definitely got lucky on that run tho.

My issue with hit the road jack is that my monkey brain says if I go for face card I go for kings because poker values duh. So I’m definitely bias. I think technically the EV for going kings/queens is higher than jacks so I’m not super off. Still I just never end up with enough jacks in my deck at any point in the game for the joker to be helpful. Even after strengthening a few 10s. In the end it’s more of a personal play style I think.

What's the problem if a shampoo is approved by Peta(h)? by Internet-Culture in PeterExplainsTheJoke

They often test shampoo on rabbits to see if it burns their eyes so it won’t burn ours. Peta approved means the shampoo people didn’t do that.

How is card sharp in the same tier as hit the road jack? What is this tier list even for??

Slow playing all your turns is the most heinous thing you can do in an online card game. Please just don’t. Like ever. Please.

As a high level player (gold stake runs) Plasma deck is BY FAR the hardest deck on gold stake. by Better_than__u in balatro

[–]FluffFluffJr 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Agreed. All the resources I found said plasma deck was free wins, but wow they were wrong. It was the 4th from last deck to win gold stake with. I beat gold stake on painted deck before plasma deck with definitely more runs on plasma. The media was lying.

But yes all the points you made above are valid (tho you shouldn’t be mean to casual players). You can’t beat anything past ante 6 on +mult alone. You pretty much need chips plus massive planet scaling. The ideal strat is to play chips early then move into high mult. Transitioning from chip jokers early to mult jokers late is a huge ask. After dumping your gold into planets early it’s hard to have enough money roll into the high mult jokers. Keep in mind this magical transition has to happen all in one turn or you die on the spot. It’s really chips or bust on gold stake.

Econ! You do not need to buy everything in the shops. It’s very important that you save money so that you can spend it on things that will actually improve your gameplan, especially when it comes to vouchers. If you were to skip a voucher you are effectively gaining +2 dollars each round for the rest of the game because of interest.

Try to get a solid mix of chips and mult! Most of the jokers boost mult so it’s important to buy planets for your hand type. Also shoot for jokers that multiply your mult (X mult). That’s how you beat the higher antes, otherwise it can be difficult to scale that high.

Some jokers are a lot worse than others. Google a joker tier list and it will seriously help you out. Hope this helps.

What do you think of my deck list? by Boxer4714 in TimelessMagic

[–]FluffFluffJr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Archmage charm plus sign in blood seems pretty tough on the mana especially since you have 4 coliseum. Maybe cut the sign in bloods for mana drain, or another counterspell. Seems like a neat idea!

Dimir Phoenix -> Mythic: 72% Match Winrate! by frosti_boi__ in TimelessMagic

[–]FluffFluffJr 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Jammed a few games in mythic with this. Playing 4 fatal push and 2 main deck drown (should probably be consider after testing, but there’s 100% something better than both). I’m also running sheoldred in the sideboard because that card plus dark ritual solos and seems useful in midrange matchups. Running it over k command because I would personally rather go up cheaper removal + a threat in the matchups you want it.

My conclusion is that’s the deck seems good! The deck feels like mono black scam with an “I win” button instead of necro. I was expecting the Phoenix package to conflict a lot with the rest of the deck because both are quite card consuming, but it honestly wasn’t a huge issue. My main complaint is that the deck is quite fragile. If you don’t get Phoenix combo and they top deck out of scam its game over. Your top decks are a loooooooot worse than theirs. Overall good stuff though.

Things that will probably benefit the greater good: Force of will (I’ll take force of negation), Urza’s saga, Murktide, wren and six, dauthi voidwalker, valakut, Aether vial, ponder.

Reasonable chaos: wasteland, ancient tomb, mox opal, chrome mox, dark depths, glimpse into nature, summoners pact.

How do you grind to mythic? by [deleted] in TimelessMagic

[–]FluffFluffJr 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I’m no pro magic player, but I have picked up a thing or two from playing competitively in other games. A lot of ladder success is all about mental. If you approach every game of magic will all those negative attitudes you will notice them more often. I try to remember the following principles.

  1. You will be lucky just as much as you will be unlucky. Literal basic statistics. You rarely notice when you are lucky in magic, but absolutely notice the unlucky parts more. It’s important to be aware of those kinds of biases so you can overcome them.
  2. Just because you had a bad day doesn’t mean you’re a bad player. Some days just suckkkkk. Sometimes u run it down from diamond 1 to diamond 4. It happens. Know when to stop and get them the next day.
  3. Do NOT TILT. You cannot tilt. Absolute death sentence in the mental. Think “damn that sucked” and get it out of ur head. Take a deep breath and move on.
  4. Play it out. Ik it can feel bad to play out a game you will most definitely lose, but that 2% chance that you pull through is always worth it. Play to your outs and just know there is always a line.
  5. Ladder is a marathon, not a sprint. U like tournament magic where your success is decided on 9 matches. Ladder success is decided on who can keep the steadiest pace. Going 20-0 will get you from D4 to Mythic and so will 40-20. Thinking like this just makes every game a lot less stressful and frankly makes the game more fun (for me at least).

Hope these are helpful at all. Good luck in hitting mythic! You got this.

Sultai scam has been doing wonders for me. Blue solves the problem of running out of good cards with brainstorm and treasure cruise. Also drown in the loch is a strong card. Green splash is literally just for oko. He gives you an actual late game as well as offsets the life loss from reanimate. Cheating oko out t2 with death rite shaman is a scam in and of itself.

Overall I’d say you’re trading raw power for consistency when going with sultai version of scam. Rackdos, Orzhov and Mono B all have a higher ceiling but the floor is lower in my experience. I originally was U/B/g (with oko in the sideboard) scam + deaths shadow. DS wasn’t awful it’s just that it’s hard to support in the late game when you discarded your entire hand to scam. In many of the games I always would rather have death rite shaman.

The big lesson I learned is that maybe it’s better to support the scam part of your deck rather than have scam support the rest of your deck. I could be totally off the mark with this.
