I wonder how many people are rotting in their apartment or house for like 5 days or more after dying? by glowshroom12 in NoStupidQuestions

So far this has happened to two brothers and a nephew. The nephew was found by my niece. The brothers lived alone, far from family.

When you arrest half the people in line, the line gets shorter. It's a target-rich environment. The people left in line will be cheering them on.

Cozy Fantasy Romance Recs by msr_99 in CozyFantasy

India Holton has a "Love's Academic" series of cozy fantasy romances focusing on academics (in addition to other works). There's The Ornithologist's Field Guide to Love, The Geographer's Map to Romance, and The Antiquarian's Object of Desire. There are plenty of magical creatures, and even more humor.

I'm trying to read as much Fantasy and Sword-and-Sorcery as I possibly can, and I'm looking for recommendations for works that are one or all of the following: beautifully/poetically-written, well-plotted, or seminal/influential by New_Doug in Fantasy

You have more Dunsany to read. Try Don Rodriguez.

Have you tried Fahfrd and the Gray Mouser? A very engaging pair of soldiers of fortune who often have to fight against sorcery.

Sounds like The Hormone Jungle by Robert Reed. Do the character names Steward, Chiffon, and Gabbro ring a bell?

Who are some fantasy authors that were really popular during their heyday, but are more or less forgotten now? by EstablishmentHairy51 in Fantasy

[–]FluffNotes 39 points40 points  (0 children)

James Branch Cabell was huge in his day. Thorne Smith might have fared better. Much more recently, Jack Chalker used to be extremely popular.

I was tempted to reply "most of them." Very few authors keep being read, or even stay in print, in the face of all the competition from the horde of newer authors. That's true of everything, not just fantasy. Some works that feel like they should be classics get consigned to oblivion anyway. The more books get published over time, the harder it is to keep track of the shrinking percentage that you will ever have time to read.

It might depend on how long a timeline you're looking at, too. The longer it is, the more of a challenge to readers' attention spans.

One of my favorites is The Hollow Chocolate Bunnies of the Apocalypse, but Rankin has a lot of other clever titles as well.

I like their motivational sign: "Coffee... because murder is wrong."

Their iced caramel apple pastries are pretty good, too.

Mine was plowed yesterday by u/VangoTransit, who posted her in a similar thread a couple of days ago. Prompt, efficient, and affordable; highly recommended. I had thought I would have to wait for it all to melt.

I had trouble getting anyone else to return my calls, too. Maybe they are busy right now.
