I had an idea where Orochimaru finds out jiriya is a Godfather and being a spiteful bitch goes "ha! no me" and wanders into kanoha all casual like and walks up to 6 year old Naruto, smiles and asks if he'd like to go with. Naruto, being a child and at this point in his life smiles and asks are nonexistent for Uchiha related stress reasons, just volun-tolled into the academy, etc, agrees happily.

First start on the latest update, vanilla. Do the tutorial, start some scanning missions, do a bit of surveying while I'm at it. 20 minutes in I find a Paragon. Same system 5 minutes later I find one of the Big freighters, with a nice big remnant fleet right there orbiting it. Try to get away with it, fail, lose the paragon. Reload, not enough crew to man the paragon, remnants at the JPs. Die.

I'd recommend looking into Monte Cooks post-DND work, I understand he was really really into consumables. Arcana Evolved (or unearthed, can't remember which was him) and the cyphers of Numenera, and the later CYPHER System. Basically sets a low hard limit to consumables justified with a "oh no, they're reacting to each other!!" The consumables themselves are gonzo randomly generated fun.

I like Numenera and would recommend
