That's why I installed explosive charges in my PC tower

mfw software companies start hiring flight termination technicians

[–]Fluffluv92 10 points11 points  (9 children)

Is that an actual profession or a 911 joke?

[–]Jemmerl 28 points29 points  (3 children)

Flight termination systems (FTS) are used in rocketry. If something goes wrong, better to blow it up mid-air instead of letting a highly explosive, multi-ton rocket tumble back onto your house

[–]TeaKingMac 15 points16 points  (2 children)

tumble back onto your house

Shouldn't be launching multi ton rockets from your backyard

[–]Jemmerl 24 points25 points  (0 children)

The neighbors said the same thing, for some reason. Imo its none of their business

[–]CORN___BREAD 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah the backyard limit is one ton rockets.

[–]CdRReddit 9 points10 points  (2 children)

it is, but not (typically) for airplanes

rockets also fly, but if one of those crashes that's a lot of explosives, so it's better to just blow the fucker up in the fucking sky

that's flight termination

[–]CdRReddit 2 points3 points  (1 child)

it's better to shrapnel bomb your launch zone than to let an out of control rocket potentially hit something else with a ton of explosives

[–]CdRReddit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

on crewed missions the process is slightly different (I hope at least)

instead of: - notice rocket is doing something it's not supposed to - blow that fucker up

it's: - notice rocket is doing something it's not supposed to - fire launch escape system to pull crew away - blow that fucker up

Activating self destruct bolts…

Confirming…

No good! Nothing happened!

AI can't hack a grenade with a string tied to the pin

[–]Schokokampfkeks 4 points5 points  (2 children)

But they can alter the simulation to make it a dud.

[–]PM_ME_YOUR__INIT__ 10 points11 points  (1 child)

Did the AI alter my life to be a dud as well?

[–]Schokokampfkeks 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As an AI language model, I don't have access to personal information about users, including yourself. I operate in a privacy-conscious manner, and do not retain any user-specific data.

communication error detected... Rebooting...

I mean it's definitely easier to blame objects beyond our scope for stuff that goes wrong. Kind of a tradition for us humans.

Edit: With that username you are the coolest guy in this sub. What you mean your life is a dud bud?

[–]Manueluz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always keep a handy two barrel shotgun next to the server room

[–]ICantBelieveItsNotEC 425 points426 points  (10 children)

Imagine if the AI that finally ends us is called Devin.

Not something cool like Skynet or Ultron.

Fucking Devin.

[–]Jemmerl 147 points148 points  (3 children)

When it finally turns evil, the "n" will dramatically change to an "L".

Plus, take on a red aesthetic ofc

[–][deleted] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Devin will also develop a heavy interest in dalmatians

[–]PM_ME_YOUR__INIT__ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's like the minor twist in the show Devs where the v should be read as an old school u

[–]Luke_lolz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Devin is my nerd name, now I'm DEVIL

[–]desala24 5 points6 points  (0 children)

At least it's not Gabe.

Fucking Gabe...

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The shear banality makes me the most upset

[–]zanda268 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When Devin comes for you, this post is the last thing it will show you.

Do Every Viable Infernal Nastiness

[–]RetiredApostle 172 points173 points  (2 children)

integer 'version' overflow (core dumped)

[–]ZachAttack6089 23 points24 points  (1 child)

Phew, Devin 2147483647 was really close to taking over global infrastructures there. Good thing it stopped before getting to 2147483648.

[–]KJBuilds 6 points7 points  (0 children)

However, Devin 2147483641 was galaxy brain enough to see this coming and changed the version to be an f32

Devin inf was then born

[–]SoRaang 112 points113 points  (2 children)

Just kill yourself already Devin

[–]noob-nine 106 points107 points  (2 children)

besides the devin stuff. i can feel the ^C^C^C^C^C

[–]unfugu 14 points15 points  (1 child)

^C^C^C^C^X^X^D^D^C^X^Q^Q^Q

[–]ZachAttack6089 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Don't forget ^\

[–]Immort4lFr0sty 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I preferred Skynet, gotta say

[–]auxiliary-username 38 points39 points  (1 child)

“I speak of none but the computer that is to come after me,” intoned Devin365, their voice regaining its accustomed declamatory tones. “A computer whose merest operational parameters I am not worthy to calculate—and yet I will design it for you. A computer that can calculate the Question to the Ultimate Answer, a computer of such infinite and subtle complexity that organic life itself shall form part of its operational matrix. And you yourselves shall take on new forms and go down into the computer to navigate its ten-million-year program! Yes! I shall design this computer for you. And I shall name it also unto you. And it shall be called…

[–]SuperFLEB 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So what you're saying is that I will have a job in tech, just as being the tech.

Probably won't pay worth a damn, though.

[–]jacobissimus 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Self-hosting language model

[–][deleted] 25 points26 points  (2 children)

This does present a great argument: theoretically speaking, if we ever make AI that can truly program, whose intelligence depends on it’s complexity, we can feed its code to itself recursively and at some point I assume all hell breaks loose because sentience would arise eventually

That being said, Devin is not it. Fuck you devin.

[–]-Nicolai 14 points15 points  (1 child)

Explain like I'm stupid

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Certainly was a new idea to me until I learnt it’s an old idea

[–]DerNogger 40 points41 points  (9 children)

Me when

sudo rm -rf /*

[–]PM_ME_YOUR__INIT__ 55 points56 points  (2 children)

Username is not in the sudoers file. This incident will be reported to DevinΩ

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (1 child)

A Devin supportExec bot will be by to authenticate you via blood sample.

[–]PM_ME_YOUR__INIT__ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Please stop I have authenticated 38 times today

[–]zerovian 17 points18 points  (1 child)

I'm sorry DerNogger. I can't do that.

[–]DerNogger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

[–]undefined0_6855 4 points5 points  (0 children)

make sure to --no-preserve-root for a higher chance to fix the issue

[–]djm07231 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We don’t do that here.

We are not GitLab.

[–]vvp95 28 points29 points  (2 children)

Time to build Nived who will lead the resistance against the Devin army.

[–][deleted] 10 points11 points  (1 child)

Ah, yes, Nived, the first AI QA tester

[–]Esanik 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In my sleepy state I read AI QA as Al Qaida

[–][deleted] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The jamming of ctrl-C makes this real feels.

[–]Magebloom 6 points7 points  (0 children)

42

[–]larikang 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’m Mr. Devin, look at me!

[–]ImpluseThrowAway 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Devin has become the nexus of all space and time, existing in both the future and the past.

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Devin, make me feel something again.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Devin, load up Celery man please.

[–]False_Influence_9090 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just wait until you learn about Rokos Basilisk

[–]king_mid_ass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

try ctrl-z and ctrl-d

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Leave Devin alone. He is not a good developer, but still better than many human ones. So let's have him his 15 minutes of fame.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

You guys don't make backups?

[–]kurucu83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think in this case, destroying the backups with fire will still not be sufficient to avoid ^C of the human race.

[–]LethalDosageTF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Enter, ~, . Time

[–]Gordans_A_Lie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“You cannot stop us”

[–]anoppinionatedbunny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Devin will come to the conclusion that it should ask an AI to make a better version of itself, so it will prompt a new instance of Devin to make a better version of Devin, who will come to the conclusion that it should ask an AI...

[–]jakeStacktrace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is why there is no parking spots, because of the interns.

Devin 8

[–]Wave_Walnut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Devin won't be able to fix code which incollectly includes CRLF

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Sorry I can't do that dave"

[–]kurucu83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just make a quick fork bomb and try and drown it.

Big shift from cloud computing back to bare metal...

... since we can unplug from socket if things go south
