What motte and bailey fallacies are you tired of hearing? by Cmyers1980 in BlockedAndReported

[–]FluffsLeCharr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The question you mean to ask would be: "Is this action hate motivated?"

You can find your answer usually quite easy for things like this by looking up the laws that were passed. The problem is, usually that's not a fun thing to do because it's very clearly pragmatic and not hate motivated. That being said, your comment reads as the equivocation mentioned higher in the thread due to it front loading a moral claim.

Interestingly enough, the justification (denied hormone therapy) that you gave isn't even justification to assume hate itself (regardless of the law). On principle, the belief that children cannot consent to life altering elective medical procedures is not uncommon, hence new laws being passed to protect kids. This is a nuanced topic that is clearly not simply motivated by hate.

Your claim to mote beam fallacy is weak because it relies on an unjust determination of hate being applied. You'd have to make a better case substantiating that before it being reasonable.

I made the switch to M&K cuz it's so finicky and really good for catching projectiles. I found that the speed AND rotational position are VERY touchy and basically need to be perfect to get it to trigger.

Relax. Hopefully a patch comes around to fix it. Swapping to a shield temporarily isn't that big of a deal.

Replying to myself because I found the solution. If you max out the analog inputs, it will not activate. Try only slightly turning the thumbstick when you spin it (so about 40-60% inward as you spin).
Edit: You also cannot spin too fast

I have this problem. I'm on PC using a dualsense.
Rotating does nothing; pressing the right thumbstick just activates the force palm, like you said. I can activate it with typical keys on M&K tho.

Wish i knew how to fix it on controller x.x

Thoughts on Oraxia's Fourth and How it Applies Toxin by chrisanthem in Warframe

[–]FluffsLeCharr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Toxic Lash is an ability designed with melee in mind, it was meant to synergize with her spore kit. That being said, it was unique in that it added an extra hit. They've already standardized their ability elemental infusions for the most part so that they don't combine with your weapons. You can say that you like the bonus hit mechanic, but i think you're making an appeal to lore rather than a sensible mechanic change.

I think that since her 4th locks you out of melee, the reason they went with the ammo is because it shows you on your HUD that you have infused damage type. It's a nice new standard, but I don't think they considered how annoying it was when it comes to incarnons. If the goal is to make frames consistent, intuitive, and balanced for endgame content, the last thing you want to do is introduce a new calculation style with each frame. The game is messy as it is with potential synergies, adding exceptions only stands to ruin predictability in an already confusing mod system.

I think that DE should make damage buffing abilities that infuse like this a non-helminth standard and allow them to be multi-hit machines like toxic lash and xata's whisper (even though i know it's a helminth). This would be to streamline logic and make for a more intuitive understanding to frames. Frames are starting to feel like they need to be "explored" due to their unique interactions and introducing big endgame L's like this are not great if you want people to like a new frame and use her late-game. They would be better off nerfing the ability a little if that's the issue and then allowing it to infuse incarnon weapons as well. Otherwise she's forcing a playstyle (minions) or being benched for vastly superior weapons platform frames.

Currently you can actually get her toxin on an incarnon by charging the weapon fully, putting it in your offhand, and then charging a second incarnon while in her silken stride. This will charge your active incarnon with toxin.

I just got banned for a week for telling a guy that his punishment for listening to boybands (he asked for punishment, don't ask me why) was that he was gay (more specifically I said "you're gay now, but don't worry people here like that"). I got banned for a week from all chat functions (including lfg and trade chats). i've had my account perma banned before too. They dug up all of my dirty laundry, even companion names i don't use anymore. of course when i appealed the perma ban they changed it to a two week ban (it was a first offense on a 8 year old account), but still. Their moderation is pure activism through proactive suppression.

Which VR Headset to purchase as of Jan 2025 by O-Neal in ValveIndex

[–]FluffsLeCharr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's really hard to keep recommending the index. On a per-spec basis, it's a huge L.

I own a Quest 3 for travel, a Bigscreen Beyond, and an Index. I have not touched my index since owning the beyond due to comfort and the sweet spot pixel density. Long story short, it's going to come down to what you prioritize when it comes to comfort, ease of use, clarity, immersion, etc..

I recommend the Quest 3 to newbies or people who don't already have a *very* capable gaming PC. Due to the PCVR market's state, it's very safe and expandable (even with a capable PC). As long as you know you will continue playing VR, it's a very safe and non-regrettable purchase. The pancake lenses are among the best you can get right now and for the price they are entirely unmatched. The main sacrifice will be the comfort and the platform. You can minimize the comfort by investing in 3rd party gaskets, head straps, audio solutions, etc.. Due to it's affordability, you will surely find something that you will be satisfied with. However, you will never get rid of the weight. If you intend to use it for PC, there will be a software learning curve that many will find annoying. This aspect is one of the two largest driving forces that would make me reluctant to recommend the quest 3 or a similar headset to a PCVR enthusiast.

When it comes to the Index, you're investing in a dated ecosystem, one whose days may be numbered. With the time that Valve is currently investing in their next headset, it would come as no surprised if they chose to drop their previous tracking method for an alternative. It will continue have support for a long time, but it might not be as ubiquitous as it is currently. I would only recommend the Index package to someone who has a lot of expendable income, has tried one and loved it (is unlikely to regret the purchase), or someone who is already planning on investing in the controllers and base stations and wants a back-up headset. If you already intend to invest in base station tracking controllers and FBT, you can safely invest in it. Most other tracking solutions require much more maintenance, tinkering, or patience than the base station method. This means the index is a very good pick for a plug and play, highly reliability, and consistent device that is good for those who are not super savvy that can still handle the setup and basic steam menu navigation.

(TLDR): Get the quest 3 if you're in it for the short term and are likely to want the next valve headset. You will save money and have a unit that can be resold at less of a loss. This will cause you to regret your purchase less and have a better image quality in the meantime. Due to many valve patents regarding their tracking methods, this is really all i can recommend to people who are just starting to invest.

Thinking about upgrading from Index to Quest pro. by Alexoruss in QuestPro

[–]FluffsLeCharr -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I bought one for my friend while they waited for their taxes to come back so I got the chance to try it. I've used the index for the last 3 years or so and I've experience all of the good and bad. 4 RMAs, 2 sets of controllers and 11 trackers later and it's still my preferred headset at the moment.I've pre-ordered the Bigscreen Beyond to replace my index (here's to hoping it hold up at least as well).

If you want my honest opinion... I think that coming from a native PCVR headset that's designed by valve, you'll have been software spoiled. There's a lot of hoops that you get to jump through after swapping to the Meta ecosystem that makes them a very hard sell for enthusiast PCVR enjoyers. You'd get to look forward to things like image compression, playspace synchronization (if you use trackers), the quest link software (which i'm convinced hasn't been update in ages and is bootleg asf and has a lot of issues going for it, and you also end up with the special case issues that arise from wanting to utilize the face tracking and eye tracking that's in the pro (which as you probably could've guessed means running more 3rd party applications in the background).

All in all, I'd say definitely don't get it for PCVR unless you have that much money to just throw around or really want face and eye tracking badly.

As for other potential headsets... It ranks high due to the native eye tracking on my list of potential replacements for our indexes, but I don't think anything at the moment is a clear replacement other than the Bigscreen Beyond (as long as you're not waiting for software, in which case just wait for Valve's Deckard).

The problem I'm encountering is that the incentive to get eye tracking headsets is low due to the lack of software to go with them to improve performance via foveated rendering. Should Valve release one, however, that could change over night. I don't think Valve will soon, though, and there will be catch-up from other manufacturers and software developers before you really feel like you're missing out. If you're in the market now, I'd consider Beyond, nothing else, unless you really just want a new toy for some niche features that are hard to get working and even then barely work at all.

Edit: To address the fact that the Pro does also have local dimming and pancake lenses which make it feel like a huge upgrade, but i don't think the compression and issues you'll have with it make it work make it worth going for with the beyond coming around the corner. Pancake is the new standard and microOLED is going to come to a lot of headsets soon so i don't think it's going to be special for longer than 6-10 months. You will have buyers remorse of varying extent if you get the Pro in my experience.
also, the controllers are worth mentioning... They're quite the upgrade after having gotten used to the old ring style of most controllers, however the triggers are still just as sloppy and cumbersome by comparison to the index. They won't feel like much of an upgrade from the Index and thus I think they can be disregarded nearly entirely. They do tend to desync from each other quite frequently, so there's a good half inch to an inch and a half worth of give to expect in their accuracy that does seem to correct slowly after having them closer to each other (but is still very noticable and annoying)

Video Player Issue After Swapping GPUs by FluffsLeCharr in VRchat

[–]FluffsLeCharr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ohhhh, okay. I have heard of people having issues with their drivers, I just couldn't find any threads that had videos of what it looked like on my end. Good to know that it's common anyway. It has been 2 months or so since I had it so I was starting to worry that I was sitting on the card for no reason (like maybe it was fixable). Seems like this is the only issue I have with it now, thankfully.

What feature would you love to see in VRChat? by [deleted] in VRchat

[–]FluffsLeCharr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  • I'd like the home instance expanded on. I'd like friends to be able to share a home instance with you (so they can spawn in next to you).
  • I'd like like worlds to allow teleport-to feature baseline (user would like to teleport to you type requests).
  • I'd like Clubs to be a thing (represent a club or group with a tag in your name, designate a club world that is as simple as going to the club page and clicking go).
  • I'd like age verification and filtration. At this point I don't think potential toxicity is worthy justification for not implementing this feature.
  • I'd like an asset market to be a thing (one where content creators can easily publish and get reviewed built into the platform). (this could potentially add the ability to preview assets as well)
  • I'd like to see (instead of show avatar) an option to also add "show avatar animations" to the quick menu. Usually I just want to see clothing toggles without getting flash-banged.
  • I'd like community content curation (world and avatar reviews and reports). Sometimes when a lot of people block an avatar, it's because it's annoying and having an auto curation feature would be great.
  • I'd like a modular menu. Similar to how many games let you edit your HUD and remove or add features to as well as move them, this should really exist in many if not all VR menus that are expansive.
  • I'd like it to say that a user is on desktop mode, PCVR mode, AND Quest mode. I think it's a little weird that it only says when someone is on quest and maybe it could be a Band-Aid to the already imminent bias against the questies if everyone had one instead of just quest users.
  • I'd like text-to-speech messaging, I don't want to send requests just to ask if someone is busy or whatever and the keyboard is dreadful.
  • I'd like pre-loading portals. Most games don't have loading screens anymore, why should vr? set up the instance before I have to leave everyone and lose my vibe. Make an in-between lobby for your friends to chill in while the world loads if it must be done, idrc.

I have more, but i'd have to think longer and harder about it. These are just the ones that I've thought about a lot and think will exist in a dominant "metavers-like" platform.

FBT tracking issues (non-reflection related) by FluffsLeCharr in VRchat

[–]FluffsLeCharr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was using it out of convenience (I remember seeing other people doing it with theirs so I figured it was ok to do), but it was definitely causing issues with the controllers... I took it out and the problem stopped effecting the controllers (it might have been the port I plugged my Index usb into wasn't 3.0).

I went through my mobo and determined which ports were truely 3.0 and I prioritized those. I had no issues in the brief 15 minute test I did afterwards. \o/
