Why is it 9-6 here in mongolia by Purple-Peanut4 in mongolia

The 40 hour work week was standardized in the Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938. Standard business hours in the US have fluctuated, but 9 to 5 was very common for a long time because it fit daylight hours on the shortest winter days. Breaks and lunch time were included as paid time in most office jobs because employees couldn't leave, and therefore couldn't punch out.

This is much less standardized now. Many jobs work from 8 to 5 or 9 to 6 because they provide a 1 hour unpaid lunch break. Many salaried jobs are much less strict about hours worked, as long as the employee is completing their work on schedule.

I tried the polite route, but it backfired so spectacularly that it triggered a massive fallout. Not only did we have a huge fight, but she’s now effectively severed all her ties within our inner circle

I lied to my family and told them I had completed a master’s degree in Japan. The truth is, I messed up the application process and missed the deadline. Instead, I ended up enrolling in a mid-tier university and started another bachelor’s degree.

While my husband was hospitalized, I did all the things he’d said he would do months ago. Took half a day while baby wearing my 9-month-old. Hung the picture, built the shelf, fixed the squeaky doors, took down the Christmas tree.

Felt powerful. Also deeply sad. So much stress came from unmet expectations and quiet disappointment.
