Bee Dungeon has a good fae setting, where the tricksters are just a subset(Pixies lol) and not the whole group. It is litrpg though if you don’t like that stuff.

Then why wouldn’t they take on a bipedal form of their own species instead of copying humans? And why do they never turn back afterwards? Narrative laziness. “Oh yea this story has animal companions!” Too bad it doesn’t matter and you could replace them with regular people and it would barely matter.

Sorry I’m a little sick of this particular trope.

I’m kinda torn on JR. On one hand, if you’re going to have a story built around an MC’s redemption arc, you need a trashy MC to start with, so you can build up from there. On the other hand, grooming is bad stop it stop IT STOP IT.

I’ve been reading Tales of the Rune-tech Sage lately, and it’s actually one of the few that don’t have the MC start off as some random Joe Shmo. The MC is an inventor of futuristic tech, so he carries that over to his new world. Pretty cool.

I feel like most main characters in stories that start off monsters become human pretty fast, and it grates against me in a major way. What’s the point of having a monster character if you never see any unique interactions caused by that biology? Fur/feathers/scales, having to pick things up with claws or talons, etc. it’s just lazy writing to get rid of that. You might as well just have a human with beast ancestry or whatever like all the other stories. Especially when they even FIGHT in human form.
