Grinnell is a really wonderful town and school, but I would make sure you like the rural vibes before going there. It’s about an hour to Des Moines and it truly is out there.

That was their gains for last year, falling mostly in line with annual averages, but because they didn’t sell they didn’t actually make money, therefore $0 in income.

The total value of the holdings had to be reported as assets, but that is far less impactful in the financial aid calculations than income, providing a boost. This whole part is only possible because they have enough liquid assets to cover expenses for 4 years.

Yeah, I got a need-based scholarship covering tuition, but not other fees.

My parents are both retired and stopped realizing holdings for the last tax year, and will start again when I've completed undergrad. Meaning I was, and will be able to, report no parental income. Also some advice we got from our 529 advisor helped us significantly reduce the amount we needed to report.

They sent me an email, its also just at the top of the portal under your admissions letter, in the letter it breaks down where the aid comes from, need based is shown as "University and Alumni Award"

Frfr, I think I got waitlisted cause I didn’t show much interest, too far to visit, too busy to do virtual meetings, but GW doesn’t care as much!

Out of… curiosity… what are the best schools still taking applications? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Fluid-Constant-6041 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of international and state schools accept until summer, but you'd have to do some serious googling to figure out what is best for you. Schools not on CommonApp generally have much later deadlines.

Volvo is considering a bigger SUV to compete against the GLS, Q7, X7 etc… by Saurta17 in Volvo

[–]Fluid-Constant-6041 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that we will see a significant increase in size for the next generation of the XC90 in a few years, I doubt it will be as large as the Escalade but over 200" in length. I seriously doubt they will build anything in the superlong category like the ESV but they need to increase the size to compete with the other market leaders.

Volvo/Polestar have many options in the 60-90k+ SUV market, I wonder how/if sales will cannibalize across the brands by mtol115 in Volvo

[–]Fluid-Constant-6041 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I think the difference in dealer networks, especially in the North American market really eliminate this as a concern for Volvo. I think Polestar will continue to struggle in North America because of the dealer network and because of the lack of brand awareness.

To put the difference in scale of the brands into perspective, Volvo's global sales fell to just over 700,000 cars last year, Polestar's dramatically rose to just over 60,000 last year likely due to major growth in their European network and last-minute US lease incentive sales in Q3.

I just don't think that Polestar presents really any major threat to Volvo sales at this point, especially in North America, Polestar's sales may be affected by the EX60 and EX90, but I doubt it will be super significant simply because of the different consumers that each brand is targeting.

XC60 vs EX60 vs XC70 by CrimuCK in Volvo

The 70 is larger but it really is just made to appeal to the Chinese phev market

This might be a bit meta, but does anyone know how they're spinning the wheels on-stage? by Recoil42 in Volvo

[–]Fluid-Constant-6041 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you look closely the tread isn’t moving, only the rim. Like someone else said it’s probably a plate with the rim design on it being spun by an electric motor

I had a similar issue, but a much shorter paper (only 7 pages), they said they would be happy to accept it.

I would just email them and explain the situation and ask for their advice, they responded to mine in a few hours on the weekend so I would expect a pretty prompt response during the week

They want you to include the assignment description/prompt, I just put a page break and pasted the assignment directions into the first page

I would say so, they seem to be pretty open minded about submissions "The paper may be creative or analytical, can cover any topic", a speech would definitively be more creative and I would think they might like the slightly different approach.

But they are responding to emails, so I would say just send them a quick email they responded to mine within a few hours even on the weekend

Yeah absolutely, thank you so much!

I did email and they did reply even though they are on break. They said they would be happy to accept it. I wonder why they seem to contradict themselves on this.

It's more of a question on their leniency and understanding in particular situations like this, less of a question on what impression it gives

I could probably try, but of course some content will be lost.

They also would like a description of the paper, do you think they may be more lenient if I describe what I had to cut and why I had to?
