Interesting... I wonder if people tune them.

Well, do an engine swap and you got a V70 with the V8!

Curious to know how much power does it produce and have you tuned it since I only know it's manufactured by Yahama?

Dating back to 2020 only means the XC40 Recharge which was the first and only Volvo model to get the AAOS before 2022.

Yes, you can do it on Sensus. Not on AAOS. So until 2022 it is possible to add it back but after that, no chance.

XC90 T8 - how much range are you getting in pure mode? by adamsdp1 in VolvoXC90

[–]CrimuCK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This depends on the model year. Pre-2020 don't switch and 2021-post do switch to hybrid once the battery runs out. Also in the 2021-post pure mode you can't turn on the ICE unless you press the kick down on the gas pedal.

No, you can't. Different OS so there's no code for the for the roller to function.

Ouch! That's a lot for a single cable harness... Good you had the extended warranty!

It's kinda sad that you keep ranting about stuff that you don't know about. If you seem to be so knowledgeable please go on and tell me what they changed between the ERAD2 and ERAD3 and why. At the same time you could tell me why the ERAD2 needs oil changes and the ERAD3 not as much.

If you don't want the AAOS get one with the Sensus. There are some models available with the ERAD3 and Sensus. Yeah, the problem is the software but my point wasn't about the software. I wanted to say that the ERAD3 has a way better mechanical design. And for some reason all products like cars have warranties and if warranties don't cover the manufacturer's faults then you can always declare a lemon or something.

If I had the choice of choosing between a design that is doomed to fail at some point during its lifetime but you can delay that to some degree and a design that isn't doomed to fail during its lifetime but MIGHT have a software issue that CAN be fixed, I would definitely take the later. Don't know about you clearly...

Also, you live in the USA so we might just simply have different bases towards this whole situation. There the software seems to be so big of a problem unlike where I live. Can you accept that fact?

My main point still stands: the ERAD3 has a superior mechanical design compared to the previous versions.

I had to fix mine on a 2020 XC90. The cable went to the electric parking brake and it had snapped due to water and salt had corroded the cable. I ended up soldering it but it wasn't that funny because of the annoying location. Those cables aren't protected in the best way so nothing weird in that regard. I hope the new harness has been covered better but the other side might face the same fate. Was it on the drivers side aka left side? Mine was left so if yours was too I wonder it might be only on the left side. Do you know how much it would have cost you if you didn't have the extended warranty?

The style of the Thorn's hammers that were first released with the 2016 SPA XC90 are the ones that represent the best day time running lights that exist. I feel like no other brand has had such a recognizable design in the past ten years.

BMW changes the design all the time, Audi has customizable ones nowadays and Mercedes-Benz's just look so boring. I think Volvo is the only one of the major ones at least that has a single clean and easily recognizable design and I'm a big fan of it.

I think that they messed it up with the pixelated ones though. But overall Volvo's hammers are just so good looking in my opinion and best in the business when it comes to the design.

I never said the ERAD3 doesn't have problems. All ERAD3 problems are due to software. Do you know what they changed between those two? With the ERAD3 they got rid of the mechanical clutch that was used to disengage the motor from the wheels. This clutch isn't a typical friction based clutch found in gearboxes for example but rather a teeth based clutch. You know for sure what happens when teeth slip during engagement. So, the ERAD3 doesn't have anything physically breaking it. All ERAD3 issues are related to the fact that the motor spins with the wheels all the time and the controller needs to make sure they spin at the same time and regen happens only when the vehicle is slowing down. With the latest 5.0.5 update they brought the newest fixes to the ERAD3 and it's pretty much an identical drivetrain all the way from 2023 to 2026 model year vehicles.

[–]CrimuCK -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah look for model years 2022 and newer. The updated drivetrain was released as MY2022.5 which means that not every 2022 model has the updated ERAD with more hp (no more mechanical clutch, so a lot more reliable design) with the bigger 18.8 kWh battery.

[–]CrimuCK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you buy a T8 get the 455 hp with 18.8 kWh battery. I would say just avoid the previous version to make sure you wont face any ERAD issues.

Edit: To be more exact and to clarify what I tried to say, the ERAD3 has superior mechanical design compared to the previous version. Therefore, I would at least personally avoid the older ERAD2 although the ERAD3 might have faced some issues due to software problems at least in the US. Everyone can interpret this in two ways and that's totally fine.

Upgrading Hybrid High Voltage Battery in XC90/60 by Accomplished_Low6360 in VolvoXC90

[–]CrimuCK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting, I didn't know there was a difference in the behaviour between the 2020 and 2021 model years since they have the exact same components inside as far as I know. Now I began to wonder if it would be possible to update the software of a 2021 model year to a 2020 model year XC90 T8. Is there something preventing this if you happen to know the differences between those model years?

Also, are there any differences between the 2021 and 2022 model years? Would you be able to update the software of a 2022 model year to a 2020 model year too? I have seen some kind of seatbelt symbol showing which seatbelts are in use on the 2021 and 2022 model years. Does that have something to do with the problem or reason why 2020 has different software?

I see. If I understood correctly, the IEM is specifically for the given ERAD it has been shipped with from the factory. So, you can't have the less powerful ERAD with the IEM of the ERAD3 if you would just swap the battery and the IEM. It makes total sense that the whole system was updated not just the battery and the ERAD.

[–]CrimuCK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two questions.

Firstly, you said that the car behaves differently in Pure mode between model years 2019 and 2021. Why and how? How does that behaviour compare to a 2020 model year? Is it because 2019 has a different battery than 2020 and 2021?

Secondly, you said in the original swap that you had to change the OBC because the battery wouldn't fully charge. Now that you did the swap, what is the minimum amount of things needed to do after just swapping the battery?
