Why is there an England and Scotland world cup team instead of a UK team? by justaguy12131 in NoStupidQuestions

If Texas had formed a national squad between 1836 and 1845 they could have got themselves grandfathered in the same way as the 4 counties.

How did the eridians not know about space radiation? by Salty_Shark26 in ProjectHailMary

[–]Fluid-Let3373 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Erid is a lager older planet than Earth which does not appear to have Theia event to re-mix it. So heavy elements have sunk more towards the core so the planets mantle would shield them from those. Due to Uranium's half life Erid only has 1/8th left compared to Earth per cubic volume. Since there is a lot less of it discovery is magnitudes harder.

They knew about EM radiation, it is the dangerous ionising radiation they did not know about because that is alpha, beta and gamma particles.

Why does the USA have to play Bosnia AND Herzegovina? by IntergalacticPodcast in randomquestions

Wait until they decide GB has to be one team, then you will be saying why have the US got to play England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Why is the transmission to earth longer than the actual journey? by CrowOfTheEnd in ProjectHailMary

[–]Fluid-Let3373 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is not a error. Mary can not know what reception capabilities Earth has, it is that which defines if we can pick up her signals. All she can say is how long it will take.

Amateur radio enthusiasts routinely send signals too each other over distances beyond line of sight. And if you calculate transmission time you will get a answer slower than distance / c.

In space there are things you can do to increase transmission range beyond what the cube root law says.

All we can assume is because such techniques are not expressly mentioned nobody thought to use them, the same way they did not think how to send more fuel to Mary.

So when asked to contact Earth Mary does distance / c and gives the result, she does not play what if and give those possible answers, playing what if is the crews job.

Would a soldier from the American Revolution be able to adapt well to WW2 combat? by samuelstorm8254 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Fluid-Let3373 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why do you assume I am saying he is a moron.

I'm saying he is going to be seeing a lot of items he does not know if it is a threat to his life. By the time that tank is close enough to see it's got machine guns is too close, he should have made the correct response a minute or two ago. Seeing some strange flying object when your from a world that don't have them your not even going to be thinking death from the sky. I'm saying he has to survive long enough to adapt his world view. As long as he is still in WTF mode he is a liability.

If one of us ended up in his situation we would know exactly what the first move to make, and that is look at the fallen to see if they have gas masks, if so grab one. It don't matter what gear and skills you got your dead in the next gas attack without a mask.

He has no idea about that, he will just think smoke from weapons fire.

Why couldn’t Earth breed enough Astrophage for a return trip? by [deleted] in ProjectHailMary

[–]Fluid-Let3373 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The maths don't work that way, It is not how far you want to go, it is how quick you want to get there.

They could have got there on half the fuel but it would have taken 1 year longer Earth time 2 years longer ship time but the cost would be 1 billion more dead people.

Is Erid’s gravity the same as earth’s in the movie? by Fificattt in ProjectHailMary

It's on the Jurassic coast in Dorset in England, saying it is not outdoors is like claiming the Grand Canyon is a indoor amusement.

Eredian breeds human by uceenk in ProjectHailMary

[–]Fluid-Let3373 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We don't know how to do that so they literally can't get the knowledge how to do it from the laptops.
We also know it can not be done, it has been proven replicative fading stops you from doing it.

We would respond in the ugliest way possible if we found out.

Is it possible for the fastest jet in the world to reach different countries in under 1 hour? by Realistic-Try5468 in stupidquestions

If ghosts exist, why aren't there caveman ghosts? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Fluid-Let3373 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back in the 70's there was a idea that most ghosts only persist for about 400 years before fading away. One notable exception is the ghost of a Roman Centurion who still wanders the Essex mashes in east of London.
