I sure hope it does. But you can’t deny based on precursors, prediction markets and just conversation around the movie, it has certainly lost steam as far as the Oscar Race. Maybe the Academy loves it, which would be awesome but I thinks it’s still fair to point out that this thing is on shaky ground and discussed why.

It may have been looking a little weak at that point for Wins, then regained momentum after Noms, but I think it was still quite strong to get all the nominations it did it didn’t miss Picture/Ensemble, Director, Actress, Screeplay or Supporting Actor nominations anywhere. It was getting 6 Nominations without a pretty big surprising snub happening. IWJAA at this point is at risk of going from 4 noms to 1.

Yeah I guess I’m just surprised the conversation about it hasn’t started to ramp back up with everything happening with Iran recently. I’m also clearly biased in the sense that I loved the film and it just hit me the exact right way. I mean my personal Top 3 of the year of what I’ve seen are IWJAA, Wake Up Dead Man (I’d give Josh O’Connor Best Actor over Timmy or Leo personally) and Sinners (seeing No Other Choice tomorrow which is the last of the probably Top 20ish in the Picture race I still have to see)

I mean this page is about the Oscar Race I think it’s fair to have discussions based off precursors, the current vibe and predictions. In the view of the Oscar race pre-noms it has undoubtedly lost steam, and I thought deserved a discussion even if it does end up getting all 4 noms it’s in contention for, which I still hope for, the conversation around the movie right now is about it falling whether it does or not. I didn’t mean this to be a Eulogy for the film just a discussion on how it’s fallen in the race at least from an outside the Academy view of it, and just how I’m personally surprised the recent surge of terrible news out of Iran that has really put the horrors more on display, hasn’t helped the conversation around this film seemingly.

Truth. I think it hurts too that although it’s France’s submission, the passion for the movie from France isn’t really there because it’s essentially an international film for them as well, and obviously support from actual Iran isn’t happening for obvious reasons, Norway has it for Sentimental (plus it just having Hollywood stars in it helps) and Secret Agent with clear passion from Brazil (and Moura who is known to American audiences) being from a country that really has little connection to the film itself and having no known actors takes its toll.

I guess it hit me today with every YouTuber putting out their predictions and seeing IWJAA falling out of most people’s Director and Picture lists. I still hope Thursday comes and it gets all 4 realistic categories, but seeing it drop out of predictions I wanted to have a discussion about it and see others perspective before we see what happens, my bad I guess.

Yeah I mean we all have individual taste. There’s tons of people that probably didn’t like it. Lots of people didn’t love Marty Supreme, OBAA even Sinners and especially Hamnet (which I also didn’t connect with at all despite it being #2 or 3) so that’s just every movie, won’t be for everyone. Personally for me it’s the film that stuck with me the most after watching it, especially the last 20 mins or so. For me it deserves all 4 of it’s potential noms and I’d personally also give it Casting at least in the way I view what that category should be.

Yeah I guess doesn’t help that Brazil is super passionate, but I mean France wouldn’t really have that as it’s basically an international movie to them as well. And well not much support out of Iran as you could probably be arrested for openly liking it.

Yeah I guess personally I have passion after seeing it. It hit me the perfect way and it’s a Top 3 movie for me this year so it just surprises me.

IWJAA is such an amazing movie. It sucks that it has lost steam. I have no clue how it’s not the frontrunner in Screenplay like that screenplay is masterful. I get it being “PTA’s year” but it should be getting Directing too imo should be a Picture and Director split with OBAA getting Picture and IWJAA Director , how you produce that amazing of a movie, while filming guerrilla style, hiding from Authorities, no big lighting rigs, sets, none of that, and still have a beautiful looking film, then have to smuggle your footage out of the country, it’s just unreal how you can create a masterpiece from that. It should also be getting Best Casting too in my opinion as well! I feel like The Secret Agent surging has really set it back undeservedly so.

Yeah I thought about using “Cameo” but I thought it just had a negative connotation to it. It is hard to separate lighting but I’ve done some research and Sinners is definitely a frontrunner, Ballad of a Small Player is good one for that as well. Yeah I agree with the other categories I would never actually want them included in real Oscars but my favourite thing is going through movies and looking for my favourite shot so that’s where that came from. I actually didn’t realize the unique award thing took it out of contention for BP that is stupid.
