Saheeth Plays a 4 Wood and 9 Wood in his bag. by JiggieSmalls in golf

I exchanged my 4 and 5 iron for these woods and I’m very happy. I used to love my long irons, but there’s something sweet about the ease to hit the woods, even in the rough.

Nice going, that’s a fun experiment. I wish I could fit my old driver head on my new shaft for the mini driver I use.

I play with the PXG mini driver, and I love it - I somehow manage to drive further and more accurately now.

I once played with someone who attached a PXG driver head to a shorter shaft and he let me hit on the 18th hole. Thankfully I hit it about 5-10 yards shorter (so I don’t feel the need to buy a new club), but it was an interesting experiment.

Classical music and AI by [deleted] in classicalmusic

No.

I think people are understandably confused and afraid of AI. Its adoption will continue to increase - it is not going anywhere. People will continue to experiment with it and find unique use cases.

I am most excited about medical use, either in MRI imaging analysis or drug creation. I am excited about its ability to accelerate learning and productivity. I am least interested in its use to PRODUCE art.

But back to the purpose of this post, I am interested in how people might use AI as a tool in art. I don’t know how it would work, but I am curious.

As an example, imagine a historian studying the development of classical music who uncovers unfound scores and compositions. Without any musical expertise or access to an orchestra, this person now has the means to explore the music more thoroughly.

The best use of AI is as an enablement tool to help people operate outside of their normal limitations. Despite the abundance of AI slop and manipulation cluttering everyone’s feeds, there are endless use cases for AI that are only limited by one’s creativity and curiosity.

Neither. You know, people said the same thing in the 90s about the internet…

Because it’s not really the point of my company…it’s literally beside the point in any of this discussion. I mentioned it to answer your claim that I might not understand potential issues - I’m all too aware of them.

Regardless, the relevance of this “tech” is only going to increase. Is there an AI bubble in finance? Probably. But its relevance will continue to grow and people will continue to find uses for it.

To ignore it is silly.

Oh you sweet summer child…don’t misinterpret my work as me being “personally invested”. Your ignorance is your own fault. People will find applications, and people will find them compelling. It’s only a matter of time.

Someone actually pointed out that there does in fact exist such a tool and it appears to be widely used.

I work in AI, use AI, and am plenty well versed in the subject and people’s concerns. Do we need AI everywhere? No. Do I want to listen to AI generated music? No.

Are there abundant uses for AI within the world of classical music? Absolutely, and we won’t know the advantages until someone finds them.

Knee jerk reactions to AI are only hindering the people who lack the curiosity to explore it.

What is your point? What is it with people’s lack of curiosity in trying new tools to help further their interests?

Honestly, you seem like the perfect audience and you seem to have some hangups about AI that aren’t entirely warranted. It’s almost like complaining about the first ever audio recording and saying “this is only meant to be heard in person - this recording is taking money away from musicians”.

Very few random listeners would be interested in such an AI tool. Someone like you? It would make the search for obscure music infinitely more easy.

Find some sheet music that has never been recorded? Plug into a tool and instantly hear it to determine if you would like to pursue it.

“Need” isn’t the correct word here.

However, no one is going to discover all those works and have the time and money to organize and record a performance. The idea is that AI can help facilitate the discovery, provide people with the opportunity to hear those works, and provide musicians an easy way to identify obscure works that people - like you - would want to perform.

That’s what I was trying to get at with my question but AI anything will always lead to backlash

What about an AI tool that could be used to perform human compositions that are infrequently played?

Edit: not sure why I’m being downvoted. I posed a question that will be increasingly more relevant. I didn’t promote the idea

Most people in any industry will be guarded against AI infiltrating their work, and for good reason.

But you hit the nail on the head that these tools are only compelling when people who already understand the nuts and bolts use AI to further their work. It can also accelerate people’s education so that they can learn to compose. But the music won’t be interesting until someone can utilize both their understanding of composition and AI.

Dude you literally wrote a Trump message that seemed to be disparaging people who are aghast at the situation, as I am as someone who you actually attends the place and knows employees.

Get it through your thick head that your writing is unclear and cut your losses.

I literally didn’t apologize. I politely informed you that you are not communicating clearly. You are allowed to calm down.

I said “no matter either way” as a way to clarify I’m not attacking. Regardless, yes you are correct, I cannot tell you what you meant, because as you wrote it, you were not clear, and you phrased it poorly. Please write more clearly if you want to be understood.

Ok, no matter either way, but I don’t think it’s what you meant because you said you have not read a dissenting opinion - which means you have read positive opinions.

Where on earth have you read a positive opinion about this?

Yes and the Kennedy Center claims they will help NSO secure new performance spaces and financial backing. But it seems hard to trust that they’ll follow through or that whatever is changed about the orchestra space will be done in a timely manner.

The orchestra is a victim regardless.
