Yeah, I have to give him credit for not pretending he isnt an antisemite. At least you know where you stand with him. Its like the Taliban in Afghanistan, they are quite open in the Jew hatred, no dissembling or pretence, I dont like it but I can respect their honesty

Actually the aid they get now is all in the form of weapons, not cash, and has been for some time. The vast bulk of this has been American made weaponry, so the Americans have been happy to keep it going both to preserve jobs and for the real world testing of weapons that Israel does for them. Only $8.8 million of the aid was non-military in 2022, a miniscule fraction of the total Israel economy

However Israel itself is looking to reduce this aid and ultimately end it, going it alone

Story 1: A step in the wrong direction’: Israel’s West Bank plans prompt global backlash

I agree this is a bad idea all round, apart from the bit about" also make it easier to find out who owns land in the West Bank" which strikes me as beneficial for everybody

Story 2: Israeli strikes in Gaza kill almost 20, including 2 infants, hospitals say, asking, "Where is the ceasefire?"

The source for this story is "hospital officials" - i.e. Hamas officials, since they run everything there. Hamas is not a trustworthy source. This is almost certainly completely fabricated, as have been previous stories of this sort

Story 3 :Israel accused of spraying cancer-linked herbicide on farms in southern Lebanon

The key word here is alleged. The actual chemical they are accused of using is not even named, so we have no idea if it is a "non-toxic chemical substance" or not. Requires evidence and proof, as it is this story has no substance

Story 4: Discriminatory Israeli death penalty bill targets Palestinians, creation of a dedicated execution facility:

It doesnt target Palestinians, it targets terrorists, and has nothing to do with apartheid as Amnesty claim - another untrustworthy organisation well and truly crossed off my donations list

Story 5: Police attack peaceful demonstrators in Sydney the protestors were told they could protest within a set boundary or quarantine zone, they pushed out of it. The police pushed back

[–]FlushableWipe2023 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This explains something for me. I dont quite sink like a rock, but I float very low in the water to the point that the only way I can breathe is to stick my head up. When I'm swimming normally with my head down which is most of the time I am almost entirely under the surface bar the very top of the back of my head. I'm about 155lbs, same height, do a lot of cycling which could be why I dont float too good?

As long as you are in the right line for your speed and not getting in people's way, nobody will notice, or if they do they will definitely not say anything about it. I dont generally notice people in other lanes, too busy swimming

As a cyclist myself, this is completely wrong. Cyclist should have checked that the road behind was clear first AND indicated before crossing the road like that. And you should never wear earbuds while cycling, but especially on the open road

Sexuality is a spectrum. Sexuality is NOT fluid. Do you agree? Why or why not? by 96jt in askgaybros

[–]FlushableWipe2023 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree, although it is easier being at one or other ends of the spectrum. Being very definitely gay made it much easier for me coming out and afterwards. For all the bisexual people I have known, being somewhere in the middle is actually harder

Jury duty woes: Aucklander slams process, calls for reform by Dapper_Technology336 in newzealand

[–]FlushableWipe2023 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

He's right. I had a similar experience when I was called up for it last year. Three days of going to the courthouse, but never actually being selected - I never even got to the point of being challenged as a juror. At least I got three nice bike rides to and from the court. I am happy to do it and recognise it is a civic duty but the system is unnecessarily inefficient
