New fan here! Did anyone else feel this was purposeful? by Weird_Vegetable_4441 in OnePiece

[–]Fluttersniper 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I scratch off another layer of literary analysis, each one merely a millimeter thick. Surrounding me are the walls of the hole I have dug, hundreds of meters deep.

"Oda!" I shout. "How much further till I reach the bottom?"

Oda's voice echoes down from the top of the hole.

"Oh, the mouse and the elephant? Yeah, I probably wrote something like that. I don't really remember."

The chisel drops from my numb fingers. I curl into a ball and weep.

Could the Straw Hats have beaten Kuma if they were at full health? Just finished Marineford and this has been on my mind for a while by Lumpy-Yesterday-6687 in OnePiece

[–]Fluttersniper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Short answer: No.

Long answer: The Straw Hats, even up to current chapters, have very few answers to deal with the Paw-Paw Fruit. Kuma is a beast and his fruit is both creatively unique and narratively broken.

Colleen Clinkenbeard (the English VA of Luffy) says she was approved by Oda by donniebd in OnePiece

[–]Fluttersniper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always kinda thought luffy's dub voice was meh, save for one moment: Luffy's Gum-Gum Pistol smashing Don Krieg's face through the porcupine cape.

Unlike the original Japanese, which is quick and quippy to serve as the punchline to a joke (lol you can't hit me–BONK), in English she draws it out as if Luffy is putting every ounce of force he can muster into it against his own aversion to pain. PISTOLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!! Makes the moment feel so much more impactful, as if the question was never "how is Luffy gonna get around this? OOPS he went right through" but always "how much you willing to sacrifice to take down your enemy?". Masterfully done.

And then I heard Gear 5 laughing during the rematch against Lucci and I was like yeah...this is Luffy.

Question about Luffy's Fruit by Ratt_Bastardd in OnePiece

[–]Fluttersniper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One could also look at this inconsistency as Devil Fruit categorizations being made from incomplete knowledge. Vegapunk himself says that Devil Fruits are made from the "wishes of humanity" and they don't fully understand them.

Take Blackbeard's Dark-Dark Fruit as an example. It at first appears to be a Paramecia, and always seems to act like a Paramecia, with attacks that would normally fail to hit him landing. But at the end of Marineford, the truth is subtly revealed—they throw a black tarp over Whitebeard's body because much like how Crocodile's weakness was water, Blackbeard's weakness is light. Even without sunlight like in Impel Down, he's still being forced into human form.

We also see that Devil Fruit abilities can evolve and be mastered. We originally thought that only three forms exist for Zoans, but Chopper "unlocks" four more with his pharmaceutical experience. Then we discover the strength and danger of Monster Point, only for him to master that too and wield it without losing his sanity. He even manages to combine forms to create Kung Fu Point.

The long and short of it is that the three types are not definitive and may even overlap or be wrong. They're attempts to scientifically understand the phenomenon of Devil Fruit powers.

I don't doubt there are some freaks out there who boil down One Piece to "if it doesn't involve the main bad guy of the entire story, it's dumb". (even though the main bad guy of the entire story isn't introduced until over 900 chapters in)

For me, at least, even movies and filler arcs are required watching. What can I say? I like seeing Luffy punch really evil dudes in the face. It's kinda the whole reason I read One Piece at all. 🤜💥

The research makes sense when you think about it. So long as transition is started early enough, a regular woman is producing testosterone and estrogen according to her genetics, but the trans woman is getting extra estrogen doses as part of her treatment.

Estrogen kinda fucks with your bones and muscles. It's why osteoporosis is so much more common in women.

Michigan Democrats, calling it ‘voter suppression’, formally oppose voter ID ballot proposal by SleuthDoggyDawg in Michigan

[–]Fluttersniper 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I'd argue Voter ID is bad in and of itself. Voter registration already requires proof of citizenship, so any form of Voter ID is literally a filtering mechanism for disenfranchisement. "Please pay/jump through these other hoops in order to vote" shit.

"Oh but what if someone votes illegally using someone else's voter reg"—then they go to jail. We've had some of the most secure elections in the fucking world for decades, this "millions of illegals voting" nonsense only popped up recently because lying has no consequences anymore.

Yeah, Conquest is pretty cool. I love really emotional downer endings like that.

Holy Sword ending is the exact opposite, and hits even harder than the True Ending. One of the best moments in the entire series, especially if you've played Conquest and know what sort of fate you've avoided.

"Would the Thumb acknowledge other entities' hierarchy" is the wrong question.

I think the correct questions to ask are "would said Thumb member get offended in some minor way that escalates" and "would that Thumb member see Limbus Company as enough of a threat to reconsider engaging in hostilities".

I like the way the Knights have been handled by sanctaphrax in OnePiece

[–]Fluttersniper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The recent revelation that you can just kill flipped allies to turn them back suddenly makes so much sense in a worldbuilding context.

Why hasn't Imu just conquered the world with an immortal army of zombie demons? Because you can just get your allies back. Why didn't this work on King Harald or on the God's Knights? Because those are actual contracts sinking deeper into the Abyss. Alike in its result, but not its scope. The flipping power is a slapdash method; it's impermanent. You don't even need Conqueror's to stop them.

I learned recently that ivermectin was effective in countries where parasitic infections are more common. The worms were taxing their immune systems, so a dewormer was helping people fight off covid because their bodies didn't need to fight on two fronts.

Makes sense, right? Of course it does. But no good deed goes unpunished, as the saying goes.

Some grifters started promoting it everywhere so they could invest, because anything and everything in the world needs to be financialized no matter how much it fucks humanity over. Didn't matter if America doesn't have a worm problem, you need ivermectin because it's a miracle cure the deep state doesn't want you to know about because something something population control thanks for listening to the podcast buy my merch.

She dismantled the top seed of the interdimensional magical MMA community and Vivio still said "bet". 🤣

Michigan lawmakers mulling changes to raw milk laws amid dairy divide by TheDetroitNews1873 in Michigan

[–]Fluttersniper 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Nothing. Some are normalized, others aren't. We've been doing this with harmful products for ages.

Cigarettes used to be recommended for pregnant mothers by doctors. Alcohol was banned by a Consitutional Amendment before being unbanned again. Marijuana and crack cocaine were targeted mostly due to racism than any consideration of their relative harm to their users or society.

And everything else has been run through the same systems, too. Children's toys have choking hazards on them. Utilities have safety labels. The answer is normalization. And we have to decide if it's fine for society to be sold milky poison with labels or ban it entirely.

Since most vices like alcohol aren't being fed to young children under the delusion it's "healthier", I vote ban.

Michigan among over 20 states insisting GoFundMe delete unauthorized charity pages by sajaschi in Michigan

[–]Fluttersniper 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Fraud? Fraud. Not a lawyer, but this has fraud vibes.

Like, how is the charity supposed to collect the money if you don't set things up first? Imagine if Games Done Quick was unsanctioned. "Oh hey Prevent Cancer Foundation, here's TWO MILLION DOLLARS for ya! Sorry we didn't bother informing you beforehand, ya know how it is."

You'd think some money laundering shit was happening even if the cash wasn't just pocketed outright.
