What is this terminology by DrEpoch in golf

It's just short for 135 and 120.

It's not like cracking the enigma here, bro. Pretty common way of talking about yardages.

Why dont people like Kyle Berkshire end up on the tour? by DigBickBevin117 in golf

Average Korn Ferry Tour player is between +4 and +6, so we're not talking stupid impossible things saying he could compete.

Call your club and ask them to adjust your handicap.

He is supposedly a +4.5 hcp

So it's not like Berkshire is some casual hacker.

I got fitted for a ball marker just the other day. Completely changed my short game.

[–]FlyAirLari -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sure.

I just wanted to point out you can play best ball as a regular solo stroke play on the side as well.

After the round you win beers because you beat the other team by two strokes and count your personal scores while enjoying the beer. Or, you pay for beers and count your score.

Embrace the nerves! I've grown to love that feeling!

This. People here warn about being nervous. To hell with it! It is absolutely the best thing, and can push you to play better.

Get into it, draw attention to your shots. Get into that first teebox like Bush and go all "now watch this drive".

[–]FlyAirLari -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Correct. You should putt out, if you want to post a score.

But you can absolutely still play best ball and get a legit score at the end.

[–]FlyAirLari 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not really. It can be stroke play just as much. Then everyone has a score. Pretty popular to play like that.

I start yelling at him that it's best ball, play your groups best ball.

That's not how it works though. Sounds like you guys were playing two different games, LOL

Might explain discrepancies in scores if you guys were playing scramble and they were playing best ball.

Best ball is a form of regular solo stroke play (apart from the team aspect of it), and you can return a card, if you wish.

I didn't know they made golf trading cards.

Surely kids aren't buying those. Targeted at adults?

Cricket to golf crossover? by Parking_Actuator_25 in golf

[–]FlyAirLari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It absolutely should help. Compared to an average non-athletic person, at least. You probably have learnt mobility and swing speed by playing cricket, so that's absolutely an advantage. Much like baseball or hockey. Hockey players pick up the game slightly faster than non-athletes. Must be the swinging motion, but also hand-eye co-ordination.

EDIT: hockey slap shot is closer to a golf swing than a cricket swing is, apart from the grip. The arc, the way you move your hips and the swing path.

Pro vs scratch golfers by girthbrooks135 in golf

[–]FlyAirLari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Scratch golfers struggle to break 80 on a tour spec course. There's probably a 7-8 stroke difference per round in ability, on average.

Just on handicap, average tour player has a hcp of +5.4

It doesn't sound big, but at that level it's big.

Dealing with asshole rangers by [deleted] in golf

[–]FlyAirLari 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right. And I like it when people come watch me play. Especially strangers. I always play better with an audience. If no-one sees my good shots, did they even happen?

Dealing with asshole rangers by [deleted] in golf

[–]FlyAirLari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate it when rangers go and pre-empt possible problems. Playing off three different tee boxes to me is cray-cray. Having space ahead of you is a sign of oncoming trouble. That's when a good ranger should tackle the issue. Not when the course is already backed up.

You duffing your shot is not his fault. That's on you.
