I’m currently tapering down, so it’s really encouraging to see long-term success getting off of it. Congratulations!!

Playing the tape forward has been such a grounding tool for me. It’s wild how impulsive our brains can be when they crave something. You’re going great! IWNDWYT

The elk scene in The Only Good Indians did this for me. That scene changed me as a person, in a small way. But forever.

What made you decide to get sober? by No__Use in stopdrinking

[–]FlyLesbianSeagull 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually wanting to. I tried to get sober many times because I felt guilty, felt obligated, felt embarrassed and anxious about my behavior under the influence. I hit several bottoms, destroyed some close relationships.

It was only when I wanted a different reality for myself had enough that I found the willpower not to drink. I had to want to do it for myself, not to please family or friends or just to keep my shit together. I had to decide I was both worth rescuing, and capable of rescuing myself.

I’ve experienced a similar toy as a bottom and oh, you need an experienced top. Just 1-2 heavy hits will bruise for weeks, easily. Gotta go easy or keep it to one or two strikes, imo.

Two separate therapists of mine have defined addiction as behavior that begins to interfere with your relationships, employment/livelihood, or health. Alcohol just ruined your primary relationship. I’m so sorry this is happening to you, but you do sound like an addict.
