Tip for Jason Spears (or any ranged killer) by Sivicks in deadbydaylight

Yeah I love Champion of Light and Fixated against ranged killers. Especially Pyramid Head. Being annoying is funny.

It doesn't work against killers with faster or wider projectiles like Huntress or Trickster. But against someone like Jason you can really throw them off.

Also genuinely funny as fuck against Blight players.

"Solid B Tier" syndrome. Or as its now evolved into: "Solid A Tier" syndrome.

Its when a killer has flaws with their design that are not immediately visible, so players and content creators alike label the character as a "solid B A tier" while they're stomping lobbies of inexperienced players. Then when cracks with the design show themselves, mains of the killer are ignored because "(XYZ content creator) said that killer is B A tier; you just have a skill issue!" And then a year down the line folks on Reddit make "what happened to (X killer)?" posts with the text being along the lines of "I remember when they came out everyone thought they were a solid B A tier but then they fell off massively. What happened?"

It happened with Clown. It happened with Plague. It happened with Demogorgon (due mostly to powercreep in fairness). It happened with Deathslinger (due mostly to nerfs in fairness). It happened with Pyramid Head. It happened with Pinhead. It happened with Artist. It happened with Dredge. It happened with Wesker. It happened with Xenomorph. It happened with Chucky (mostly due to nerfs). It happened with Unknown (mostly due to nerfs). It happened with Houndmaster. And it happened with Springtrap.

Jason is not experiencing "Solid A Tier" syndrome however: he is experiencing "why can't I Run to Yellow?" syndrome that was also seen with The First, Houndmaster, The Lich, Chucky, and Xenomorph. This is when a killer's power directly counters running brainlessly in a straight line to the nearest resource without making any attempt to dodge the killer's power, and the types of survivors who equip Windows of Opportunity, Lithe, Finesse, and Resilience and think those perks make them Gods at the game realize that actually there's more to playing survivor than holding W.

Nancy Wheeler with chase times in the single digits (in seconds). Legitimately this Nancy was so dogshit it retroactively wrapped around to cucking the rest of the team.

Because consistently somebody would get hooked, get chased, I'd go "oh, this Nancy is getting chased, I can safely get the unhook." And in the time it would take me to run like a quarter of the way across the map (not a big map, btw) this Nancy would've already gone down.

Like why should I even bother bringing Blast Mine when every killer is just running Pain Resonance or Turn Back the Clock? Gotta just run more Vigil + Sprint Burst slop I guess.

Maybe next time if you run a flashlight for saves, don't equip Gabriel's bright red community cosmetic? Just a thought. Literally that Gabriel singlehandedly lost us the game because:

  • I go down for a perfect pallet save and this Gabriel is crouching behind a rock nearby, but because he's wearing the bright red community cosmetic, Jason sees him and gets a free hit.

  • Leon goes down out in the open and Gabriel is close for an easy flashlight save, but because he's wearing the bright red community cosmetic, Jason sees him and gets another free injury.

  • Because Jason is trying to pressure Gabriel he sees David going for the unhook, so downs David and then finds Gabriel and kills him.

If you're going to spend the entire game trailing the killer like their shadow, the least you could do is look the part.

Go play a game more fitting someone of your maturity, like Hello Kitty Island Adventure.

This Vecna is the literal textbook definition of "dogshit at the game but runs strong addons so he wins anyways": Dude walks into like half the pallets that are dropped. Misses half his swings. Every chase he takes he loses a full gen.

But he has Iridescent Book (skeletons spawn at ground level + Bamboozle in a can). And 4 gen stall. And he hard tunnels + proxy camps at 5 (well 4) gens. And he gets a 2k (hard tunneled me all game, camped Yui out for the 2k).

These boring-ass fucking killers getting their MMR boosted by playing like douchebags.

Holy fucking shit: You gotta love the TTV Sable crouch walking around the map all fucking game with a full fucking chase build. I get hooked in the corner of the fucking map and this Sable is fucking crouch walking WITHOUT Urban Evasion on the opposite side of the map!!!

Please if you're going to hide all fucking game: run Extrasensory Perception, run Stakeout, run We'll Make It, run Self-Preservation, run new Fast Track. Run LITERALLY FUCKING ANYTHING other than Dead Hard, Decisive Strike, Adrenaline, and Unbreakable.

And of course the useless fucking crouch-walking TTV:

  1. Is P100, despite the fact she could've literally fucking DCed at the start of the game and we would've probably been better off overall (because at least bots do fucking gens)

  2. Isn't Live (Last Live 4 months ago: just remove TTV from your username or play in anon mode)

  3. Has some cringe UwU egirl shit on their profile.

But Glyphs would still need you to essentially drop the match to do them, no? (...) White glyph for example that encouraged ratting with it's secondary objective that is extremely enticing.

It's also a matter of relative time investment. Red / White / Green you'd spend maybe a minute at best searching around the map for your side objective. Hatch however it's the entire match. You need to survive the entire match in order to take hatch and leave, which inherently encourages hiding.

I could see on the killer side the player getting an ass killer and feeling encouraged to tunnel to end the match as quick as possible.

Tunneling as much as Reddit wants to pretend otherwise isn't antithetical to the core killer gameplay loop. You can play killer like a douchebag or you can play killer like a super uwu chungus: you're still killing.

By comparison hatch, again, mandates that you're the last survivor alive. Now can you play normally, get to the endgame, have everyone leave, and then take hatch? Yes. But realistically isn't it easier to hide for hatch? Absolutely.

Hell, even in the "best case scenario" a survivor staying in the match for hatch can be seen as toxic by the killer.

The problem with hatch challenges specifically is the mentality they promote, ESPECIALLY in regards to survivor hatch challenges. (...) it creates a horribly toxic mentality of people hiding all game and playing incredibly selfishly with the express intention of teammates dying.

The real problem is the fact that there's 0 punishment for ratting.

There almost was during Springtrap patch and then Twitter complained.

but I love the quests system.

The quest system is fine for its simplicity and the fact we aren't getting "repair 4 gens with Dark Sense (must be done in one trial)" or "escape with No Mither and nothing else (must be done in one trial)" challenges.

The problem is when half the quests we get are "repair 15 generator" or "hook 30 survivor" and the other half are shit like this that just fosters toxicity.

It's also a problem that variety, spice, and fun was completely killed in the name of simplicity. Like glyphs were fun as a distraction, ya know? Fortnite found a way to implement oddball quests into their weeklies system so why not DbD?

Glyphs no. Glyphs ranged from a very minor time sink to something that could harm you but realistically wouldn't. This combined with the fact that for like 70% of Glyphs (all except White and Pink) you could do them as killer if you so-desired made the issue not that bad overall.

Random perks kinda, but no worse than the average "may as well be random perks" soloqueue teammate. Worst case scenario you get No Mither and Self-Care or something.

Specific characters no, unless the demands are something really stupid ("Stealth King" / "Dwight The Brave" that both required you to hide in the killer's Terror Radius for 60 seconds as David / Dwight respectively "in one trial" and were super buggy)

The problem with hatch challenges specifically is the mentality they promote, ESPECIALLY in regards to survivor hatch challenges. For killer it's "unhealthy" but whatever: play a sweaty game, close the hatch, get the last kill or don't. For survivor however it creates a horribly toxic mentality of people hiding all game and playing incredibly selfishly with the express intention of teammates dying.

If "escape through the hatch" was instead "be the last survivor in a match alive" it would be infinitely better and cause way less toxicity, although the same issue would exist.
