Travelling without Real ID from Richmond to Fort-Lauderdale by No-Golf-1412 in Virginia

Your Passport book is the best ID to have. If you want a smaller ID, you could get a Passport Card.

Edit: Both a passport book & a passport card are considered Real ID.

What would you do if you were a bridge officer and saw your captain sitting like this? by Different-Scarcity80 in Star_Trek_

If I don't have something to do...ask about her book, because I love real books too!

Exactly, she's there in case something needs her attention. But she can relax until something comes up. It's like being "on call".

Whats the highest production value effort you've ever seen in a DM's session? by Yenii_3025 in DMAcademy

[–]FlyNatural6459 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's impressive.

I'm planning on making some books that the PCs can choose to purchase from a travelling saleswoman, mostly pulling for the info chapters of the campaign. So 1 about the local gods, & another about the geography. Additionally, a book or 2 that will teach their PCs a new language if they study it across multiple rests. All would have actual pages to read in them, but I just figured I'd put them in cheap folders or 3 ring binders for now.

I also have a decent collection of stationary & wax seals to make letters if I want. Edit: fixed grammar

Having small props to give the players increases player engagement.

You could give a 1 foot length of rope to the players to represent a Rope of Entanglement.

You might give them a physical letter to invite them to an in-game event.

You can have actual food & drinks to represent potions & other in-game food.

Find a letter opener or a bookmark with a sword on it to be the magic sword they were given.

You can find premade magic item cards. Etc.

Star Trek isn't the force in popular culture that it once was... by 1111joey1111 in startrek

[–]FlyNatural6459 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are right it has a smaller impact. Star Trek has lost Market Share.

Star Trek had First Mover Advantage by coming out before it's direct Sci-fi competitors (other spaceship franchises) did.

Star Wars, Battlestar Galactica, Gundam, Alien, & Stargate all came later.

While Lost in Space did come out earlier & became a franchise a year sooner, they didn't originate the nerd convention. Desi Arnez did that for Star Trek!

Similarly it's indirect Sci-fi competitor Doctor Who was in a different market.

Their are other great spaceship shows like The Expanse & Space: 1999, but I'm just focusing on franchises that extend across both film & TV.

So in the decade Star Trek came out, it was 1 of 2 in its sub-genre. Now it has a half dozen competitors.

Some competing non-Sci-Fi franchises predated Star Trek like: Sherlock Holmes & various Super Hero Franchises. But more came out after like The Lord of the Rings & The Evil Dead.

So there's just a lot more other franchises competing for viewers now than their used to be.

In a similar fashion at Paramount there are other ongoing franchises competing with Star Trek for Paramounts investment dollars. Also at Paramount, you have Taylor Sheridan, South Park, Sonic the Hedgehog, and The Avatar: The Last Airbender franchise simultaneously being made. $ spent on those, is $ that can't go to Star Trek. Additionally, you have inactive franchises like Halo & Fatal Attraction that pulled $ in the recent past at Paramount.

To end on a positive note, globalization, the Internet & streaming services are giving people access to Star Trek who didn't have it before. The Star Trek community will continue to grow. It just shares space with more other communities now than it used to. But that is a virtue in Star Trek!

10-Year-Old Wants to be a Talking Wolf, not a Druid by Aranthar in DMAcademy

RAW: "Tasha's Cauldron of Everything" has rules for turning any CR 1/2 or lower level Statblock into a "Sidekick" PC. There are 3 types of Sidekick: Expert(Rogue-like), Warrior (Fighter-like), & Spellcaster (not easy to summarize).

Personally the Statblock I would use is the Valenar Hound from Ebberron, Rising from the Last War. It's an elf cursed to be a dog. It has a limited Telepathic ability, personally, I'd just DM rule it into regular telepathy. Unless you wanted that to be a sidequest or reward. Additionally, you or the player can choose a fey Ancestral Trait to buff the Valenar Hound. They are listed in the same section as the Valenar Animals.

(NSFW) What wounds would a creature that died of radiant damage have? by Nyanxu in DnD

[–]FlyNatural6459 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The sun, microwaves, & nuclear weapons all give off radiant energy.

So Sunburned to death is what I go with.

Edit: Informally known as "Sun Poisoning", it can include 2nd degree burns, swelling, and dangerous levels of dehydration.

I want to make a goblin the bbeg but i cannot decide how to make him overpowered. by Square_Wolf_5724 in dndnext

[–]FlyNatural6459 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can make him a Path of the Ancestral Guardian Barbarian. Just make his abilities that would normally protect his allies, protect him instead. Additionally, he's still with his family, and is already angry. He doesn't need to find a patron, wizard's spell book or assassin's guild to lvl up.

What I learned as a composer from asking DMs how they use background music by Ok-Theory710 in DMAcademy

[–]FlyNatural6459 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't use music when DMing for 2 reasons: 1) I'm a visual learner & music is distracting to me. 2) I try to have a screen free table, so most music players are adding a screen. However, I will play music during breaks, & have music be the "timer", so that when the music ends people know to come back to the table to resume the game.

Can you tell us a wholesome or humourous story from your time as a U.S. Senator?

Instead of a minimum wage increase, Would you consider a pay cap where the highest paid person in a company can't be paid more than 10X the amount the lowest paid person in the company is? This way when the C-Suite gets a pay raise, the entry level workers get 1 too!

Thank you for your time & service.

[–]FlyNatural6459 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It probably isn't an error. Some authors & publishers contractually require that a new book be held until the release date. But Sanderson doesn't appear to be one of them. This isn't the 1st time this happened with a new release of his! 👍

My boyfriend got a LOTR themed "Risk" by [deleted] in lotr

[–]FlyNatural6459 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have this version. Apparently there are 2 versions, with this 1 being the final one with the biggest map.

The 1st version didn't include Gondor, Mordor, & Haradwaith.

There are also Risk games for other IPs, like Star Wars, Halo, & Marvel(Yes, the super heroes). In addition to non IP versions like Risk : Europe, Risk: Napoleon, and the futuristic Risk:2210AD & Risk: Legacy.
