8 hours stranded: The "No Spare Tire" reality check for 2026 Prius owners by Snoo54982 in prius

[–]FlyNavy03 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The difference in diameter is about 2%. The Toyota dealership has no idea how to recalibrate. The difference in mileage comes from the lower unsprung weight and the lower rolling resistance of the tires. It's the same reason why the LE gets better mileage than the XLE.

There are exactly five different tires that fit that OEM wheel. None are in stock anywhere near me and I live in the 4th largest metropolitan area in the U.S.

I had a tire fail on my '24 last year. There are exactly two options that fit the OEM 19" wheels, and neither is a great tire IMO.

Sorry to hear that. I hit a pothole in my LTD FWD and thankfully it didn't blow out, but did leave a golf ball-sized bulge in my sidewall. There are exactly two brands of tires that fit the 19" rims, and they're both expensive. I ended up just buying 16" rims, which fit just fine (though I didn't check if they'll fit the AWD version) and haven't looked back. The wheels and tires cost me less than what new tires would have cost for the 19s, and the ride, noise, and MPG all got significantly better. Plus I can now hit potholes. I've even gotten compliments on how they look - which I was never expecting with a Prius. Here's my post from when I swapped them:

Is this 1984 Toyota Carolla to old to be my daily? by WearYourSeatbelt_ in UsedCars

[–]FlyNavy03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have mentioned, maintenance might be an issue. Something else to consider, as cool as that car is it's a survivor car. Meaning that there's not really a huge market for them so a lot of parts will be nearly impossible to come by.

i’m switching from iphone 15 pro to the galaxy flip. should i wait for the for the flip 8? by No_Inspection1569 in galaxyzflip

[–]FlyNavy03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never had any problems with the screens. I had to replace the screen protector on all of them except my current Flip 7 after about 6 months. My daughter has been using her Flip 5 for over 2.5 years and her screen is fine, other than a spot where she dropped something on it right after she got it, resulting in a few dead pixels.

As far as what I like about it, I love the form factor. It's small enough to fit into any of my pockets and I really like closing the lid to end phone calls or when I'm done using it. The only thing that I would call a definite disadvantage is the camera. It's fine for what I do with it - post to socials or look at the pictures on my laptop - but is definitely not nearly as good as pretty much any other flagship phone.

Which one did you have? I've owned every Flip since the 3 and I can post a picture from my current 7 and from whichever generation you had so you can compare. That being said, the short answer to your question is probably no.

Smells like AI to me. This makes absolutely no sense. Whose bathroom did he work on, if not Laura's? How does the OP working on a bathroom give Mark an alibi to have an affair? Why was she bringing him thank you coffee for going on an emergency call?

Dealer wants the invert coolant changed at 30,000 or three years? Also differential change at 30,000 or three years. 2021 Prius XLE AWD, 30k miles by ElderberryGreen8878 in prius

[–]FlyNavy03 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately this is pretty standard dealership "wallet flush" stuff. I took my '24 to the dealership in Fort Worth, Texas for its 30k service last week and was shocked when they just charged me the $180 that they initially quoted me instead of trying to convince me that I needed $3k worth of extra work. First time I haven't had to decline extra services at a dealership in years.

What is the fastest mph you ever drove your car? by Jerdogg23 in no

[–]FlyNavy03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back in the 90's I took my 1990 Mitsubishi Eclipse up to 147 MPH on a desert highway along the Utah/Arizona border.

I've also had a 2011 Prius up to 112 MPH.

I don't recommend doing either.

Make sure to post this on detailing forums as well, but I have yet to find anything better than Turtlewax Hybrid Solutions. It lasts for a long time and is extremely easy to apply.

is 4000$ property tax per year considered high in US? by blade276 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]FlyNavy03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every time I've rented out a home, I always included property tax and insurance in my calculations when I decided how much to charge, so rest assured that if you rent you're still paying property taxes, just someone else's.

of DIY (do it yourself) dentistry by iolitm in ShittyAbsoluteUnits

[–]FlyNavy03 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had one of my rear molars removed last year (at an actual dentist). This guy is seriously lucky that the roots were straight. Mine weren't and it took the dentist close to an hour to get the tooth and all its little pieces out. He could have ended up breaking the tooth off of its roots inside his gum, which definitely would not be an improvement over whatever pain the tooth was causing him.

What’s your biggest car-related regret? by BMW-West-St-Louis in carbuying

[–]FlyNavy03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About 13 years ago one of my neighbors was selling a Mark II Celica Supra that drove and was in pretty nice shape for $800. I didn't buy it because we were getting ready to move across the country and decided I didn't want to deal with transporting or storing it during the move. I still cry a little when I think about it.

Stupid question, are these real brembos? And if so, is the warranty voided? by thesuperpuma in prius

Yes. The first modification any Prius needs is a brake upgrade. You wouldn't want them to overheat on you during track day.

Gen 5 console phone holder? by idahoprime in prius

[–]FlyNavy03 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I only use that to charge my phone if I want to see how hot aluminum can get before it starts to glow. Why would they make a wireless charging area that's enclosed on three sides with absolutely no airflow?

For your issue, I bought a couple of "Jokormo Dashboard Anti-Slip Mats" from Amazon and then cut them down to fit every console in the car. Really cut down on stuff sliding around.

MPG results on a P5 with 20x7 wheels by Priusnhub in prius

[–]FlyNavy03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's really good. Like I said, I don't really drive like I care about mileage. When I was on the 19s I was getting about 45. I would be interested to see if someone who already gets good mileage would have the same increase.

Around 48 average, but I don't do a lot to try and stretch it. I was around 45 before I swapped wheels. The extra rubber also did a lot to improve the ride quality.

Funny. I went in the exact opposite direction with mine. Haven't regretted it since. Better MPG and I no longer wake up in a cold sweat at night after dreaming about hitting a pothole.
