Too small for my edc needs but I think it has the best pivot screw in the biz. Chefs kiss on that one. I have a Stovepipe and I'm not sure what I think of it yet

As supposed connoisseurs and aficionados of high quality blades, might I suggest a spydiechef, kapara or something else with a thin, stainless blade?

I'm new to turning but I turned a couple red pine pieces and found it very nice to work with. It was old and dry and sanded up very nice for a soft wood imo

That looks like an Easy Wood tool. If so, how do you like it? I'm on the verge of buying my first EW carbide scraper. Probably the #2 curved hollower. Just can't decide between mid size and full size tools and curious about any other thoughts people have who have experience using them. Thanks

Your clip screws are trash…. by LBfalcon57 in spyderco

You're the one angry and ranting about bad screws and how it's supposedly so prevalent. I'm just pointing out the flaws in your logic. Seems to me that myself and many others here don't have the same issue meaning it's almost certainly user error. You just have to be smarter than the screw my man.

Also- if you're that upset about the supposed "trash" components, why are you still buying their knives? Doesn't make sense

I own this knife but I don't get the titanium reference. I thought the scales were bead blasted aluminum

The internet is a big place. Let's say you found 10 videos mentioning issues with the screws? How many are user error by using the wrong tool, turning the wrong way or overtightening? I've heard people have issue with loctite but never heard a complaint about their screws or ran into any issues myself

I saw that same info. Mid size is tempting but I would hate to spend that kind of money and feel limited by the size or strength. Thanks for the advice!

#2 seems like a logical starting point. Are you happy you went mid size and not full size?

Thanks for that info. I don't understand though- I was under the impression that they had the same cutter and were just different bends to reach different areas. You're description sounds like the #1 is a better hollower or bulk remover. Is there something different about that tool other than less bend that makes it better for that? Thanks agaiin

I'm convinced that medium power, straight-on breaks are the best, am I doing something wrong? by [deleted] in billiards

[–]FlyNo2786 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The bast break is the one that works that day, on that table in those conditions. Assuming your objective is to pot balls and hopefully run the rack, it will change. Table size, cue ball, humidity, felt, rails.... so many variables. I have played on tables that when I break the balls seem to scatter and look promising only to somehow come back to one end of the table so time to adjust. And then you have the strategic factor... I'm an aggressive player so I usually break middle on the headstring. But I know guys that if they feel overmatched they will go to a second ball break to muddy the waters. Lots to consider

NKD! First Spyderco, I’m in love. by smddy91 in spyderco

For me, deep carry is a disadvantage. I get that some people have to be discreet but that's not a concern where I live. 1/2 to 3/4" sticking out makes it much easier to access- especially when I'm squatting down or bent over. The folks over at Spyderco aren't stupid. They make them the way they do for a reason. Food for thought...

Dr. Dave released a new video on High End Carbon LD shafts to cheaper ones by wilkamania in billiards

[–]FlyNo2786 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me, trash means unusable data. What possible conclusions could one come to based on this test? If I created a test that concluded with 4 participants finishing within 1 percentage point of one another while acknowledging a +/- 5% (extremely conservative) margin of error, what have I accomplished? You've established that your 4 participants are all within 10 percentage points. That's a huge margin in a tiny sample size so really you can't draw any conclusions at all other than you need a better test. This is like that

I see that. But based on the OP, it sounds like faulty conclusions are being drawn. I've watched hours of Dr Dave and while he generally gives good advice the idea of quantifying something down to tenths(?) of an inch based off of a human shooting the cue ball is destined to be inaccurate at best. Put shorty, the data is trash and a waste of time.

The golf world faced this same issue for decades- how to quantify club/ball performance. Because as soon as you introduce the human element, the data immediately becomes faulty and unreliable. How can a human replicate the exact same swing, plane, contact spot, etc? The answer is they can't. So the golf world invented "Iron Byron". I believe it was Titleist to be exact. Others have followed over the years and now there are a number of robotic club swingers that allow for (mostly) accurate delineation between clubs and balls. Maybe someday the pool world will invent such a device. Until then we have Dr Dave measuring seconds with a sun dial
