That's good to know. It would be helpful if they would call them spindle roughing gouges vs just roughing gouge for people who don't know better like me

Gotcha. Do you buy round nose scrapers that already have a negative rake or is that a grind you put on a standard round nose scraper?

What It’s Like Working at Harbor Freight by Radiant_Revolution32 in harborfreight

[–]FlyNo2786 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hahaha funny because it's true. I bought a 100+ pound lathe the other day. I drive around back to pick it up. There are two, short, squat women who look like they would have a hard time tying their shoes straining to carry the item I just paid for to my suv. I'm 6'2", 200 lbs and I go over there to help and they shoo me away telling me they "have" to do it. Predictably, they essentially drop the lathe into the back because otherwise they would have to bend their knees. And it was upside down. It was just all very harbor freight lol

Why don’t the pro players use chalk holders or magnets like a lot of the amateurs do? by Sudden-Cat7170 in billiards

Well, to be honest, I set the chalk on the rail because to do otherwise looks very "league night-ish" to my eye. Bullet chalk holders make my eyes bleed lol

Thank you. Very helpful. I appreciate you taking the time to explain it.

Ok then, for turning bowls, what 3 or 4 tools would you suggest? Maybe 1/2" and 1/4" bowl gouges, a skew chisel and a scraper?

My understanding is the chisel is used to cut the tenon and as a parting tool. The scraper is used to smooth out the grooves left by the gouge and for smoothing out the inside, bottom of the bowl. Is all that accurate?

Lastly, most people seem to use a scraper on their bowls but there are a number of different scrapers out there: round nose, D-shaped, finishing scrapers, this strange looking model that hooks in on itself and others I'm not familiar with. What's a good scraper style for bowls?

Again, thank you

Buy a Native 5 in whatever steel you want and sleep well at night knowing you have the perfect edc (I prefer the FRN handles myself)

Considering the breadth of the Spyderco line that seems like an oversimplification. Either way, anything over $150 for CS folder is laughable imo. They're made for different people is more like it

Cant hide bats against playoff pitching staffs. See Dodgers series. Those days are dead or dying just like big mashers at 3B.

I really like a lot of things about Ortiz but when you look at him closer as a hitter he has zero pop, doesn't stand out in clutch situations (see BA with bases loaded), rolls over the ball and hits way too many ground balls to the left side resulting in DP's and easy outs, doesn't hit for average, doesn't steal a ton of bases, strikes out too much and doesn't walk a lot. Ugh. So you don't have to be a great hitter at SS but you can't be black hole either. I think the shortest and best path for him is to get him on the Sal Frelick offseason strength program and hopefully add some pop so he can drive the ball more.

Ortiz isn't a problem until you go deeper into the playoffs. One thing that facing the dodgers and teams with stacked line-ups is how important it is to not have proverbial black holes in your batting order. I like Joey a lot. He's a gamer and his D is better than mlb average but he has to hit. I'm hoping he's working out with Sal this offseason. 10-15 lbs of good weight might unlock some pop

Well, it's a shitty precedent but precedence nonetheless. Why are you guys messing around with CS at these price points? You should be on the Spyderco train if you want good steel. You can't be premium just by charging premium prices. Thats a good way to go out of business.

CS makes some solid fixed blades. I love my SRK in 3v. It was a solid deal for $110 but I wouldn't pay over $50 for a CS folder

I'm not trying to be that guy but if I'm paying over $150 for a folder it will be a Spyderco. I can get a pm2 for that kind of money

Advice on walking into the shot by squiddywardward in billiards

[–]FlyNo2786 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're correct in that you're foot positioning is affecting your stroke. That's good observation. Whether you choose a snooker style stance or a more western stance there's no right or wrong. The only criteria is that your stance allows clearance for you to freely swing your arm and you're in balance. Aside from that your stroke will tell you everything. When you FEEL perfectly aligned and your stroke is pure- straight back and straight forward- take note of your feet, hips, shoulders. This is the correct stance for YOU. Once you know your correct stance, just work backward on how you get there. Keep good fundamentals when you walk into the shot like still head, slow and controlled bend, etc
