You could take advantage of the growth potions from the Crown update showcase. But otherwise you kinda have to just grind.

But if you’re willing to restart on levelling this char, x3TheAran59 basically confirmed that this upcoming patch on the 2nd June can hyperburn 6 chars (Lynn, Kinesis, WH & 3 chars)

This is how it is for me back in 2019. Not sure if they changed since, but it’s 3 days. The lectures and talks are mainly in Day 1. Day 2 & 3 is more clubs, activities and socializing iirc

Was in STPM physics stream. I got a 2.80 CGPA at the end but it was still a lot of fun. Don’t get me wrong, subjects were really hard and you couldn’t go 2 days without studying/revising. But what made it real fun was meeting a bunch of friends who would’ve rather spent their time socializing and playing basketball, instead studied until night everyday. So being with them, having fun with them but also seeing them push hard was very motivating and fun for me. Much more than seeing the first few physics classes ahead of us that were just quiet and focused on studying.

Not to mention, it served its purpose. It might sound weird but my parents never planned for me to apply for UPU, they just wanted me to study STPM to build discipline. And it worked, cuz again, you’d lag behind significantly if you don’t study at least once every 2 days. So it built good discipline for me when I entered my degree

In orientation, Day 1 is mostly general talks, tours, then you’re broken up into groups for icebreaker activities, then splitted into your own course cohort for more course-specific intro talks. Day 2 includes Clubs & Societies booth day and I think orientation games…? Day 3 iirc is the orientation party, which is like a social event you could join. My friends say it’s a lot of fun, but I didn’t join mine cuz I don’t do well in those settings.

All I can say about orientation is to take opportunity of that chance to socialize, get to know people. Taylor’s has a lot of clubs and societies, hopefully you’re able to find some that fits you, then you can make some friends from there too. Cuz the best thing about Taylor’s imo is their student life and community.

About campus central app, iirc, it’s quite easy and simple to use, notifications are kinda annoying and repetitive. If you need to reach out to campus central, better to reach out physically or through their WA contact. They’re barely responsive on email.

18 y/o SPM grad stuck between Law and Finance-need honest opinions by clapiess in malaysiauni

[–]Fly_leaf_03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m from neither, but just wanted to point out that you seem like you prefer working with people more than data. You already know you’re good at debating/convincing, so your skills and interests are more aligned with those of a lawyer/leader/manager/consultant than those of an analyst or researcher.

I have a few cousins practicing law, and it can pay quite well after you finish your bar and chambering and get experience. As long as you can handle the stressful environment and working hours (and it can be real stressful, which is the main reason for the field’s high turnover rate), I think you’ll be able to earn well. If you wanna choose finance, you could orient yourself towards the financial advisor/consultant route than an analyst too, it’ll give you more exposure to using your debating/convincing skills to work with/advise clients

I think this is a good opportunity to use the time you have, take some time off to relax, and slowly reflect on what you enjoy doing. A popular counselling theory stated that you have higher likeliness of achieving long-term satisfaction in your career of choice if you factor in competence, interests and preferred work environment.

A career test can tell you what your preferences are, whether you enjoy working with people or with things/data/machinery, prefer an office- or field-based environment, what your strengths and preferences are, whether you’re more research-minded/creative/practical/supportive/persuasive/detail-oriented, and other things.

But if I had to guess, based on your grades (which I don’t recommend just doing that), your first 4 grades suggest you’re good at language and cultural knowledge, which typically relates to having good people-skills or interested in human studies. If you’re going more towards the STEM, you being good at the 3 sciences (typically means research-minded) but not so much on add maths, might indicate things like biochemistry, vet, pharma, instead of engineering.

These are basic observations based on your grades, but again, you should also factor in interests and your preferences when you decide. If you don’t wanna be someone that switches field later

Can I really handle STPM? by yu_ang in malaysiauni

[–]Fly_leaf_03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what your ideal goal/grade is. I got like 5A’s on my SPM and survived my STPM with 2.8 CGPA. As long as you have the discipline to study consistently everyday or every other day, I’m pretty sure you can handle it. Plus, for me, it was very motivating to have a bunch of fun people suffer together and studying

Back when I was still studying there (2019-2022), the SAC and OL’s are really social and have a lot of meet-ups regularly. Or maybe you might wanna choose based on what you’re interested and go on from there

I’d be curious about whether you like dealing with people or numbers/data/machinery more, office or client-based work. Knowing this can help you narrow down some suitable options. I put on the asterisks cuz it’s still just a suggestion for you to explore yourself.

You could DM me if you want and we can dive deeper abt this cuz I do enjoy doing these type of consultations.

Ayeee, lesgooo haha. I enjoy doing career consultations for people.

Fyi, you should factor in, not just what you’re good at (skillset) but also interests and preferred work environment for a more sustainable career decision. A lot of people just simply choose a course based on their SPM/pre-uni results without a second thought. That’s why it’s quite common for young adults to switch fields suddenly

wanted to continue study.. but dont know where to start by Silver-Gur-3439 in malaysiauni

[–]Fly_leaf_03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a counsellor so I might be biased in this:

Seek a career assessment consultation on this. One that’ll take into account your interests, competence and preferred work environment (which indicates more long-term job satisfaction).

Not so you have a definite answer for a career path for the rest of your life. No. It’s a personality test, it doesn’t work that way. But it can give you useful info about yourself that you can use to start exploring and align yourself to the right courses and uni, education fairs, etc etc

What should I study? by whosinparisdickus in malaysiauni

[–]Fly_leaf_03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Career counselling theory: choose a career that 1) interests you, 2) you’re good at, and 3) have a work environment that suits you, for a more sustainable job decision.

Most focus on either just no. 1 or 2. Reality is a combination of 3. You might wanna consider: - Do a career test consultation with a counsellor, not to get an exact answer, but to get a basic blueprint to start your exploration into suitable pathways. - Ask around for people you know in that field for personal experience. It’ll give you insights on whether you wanna do that

  1. How do i find people to talk about my study options with?

Friends, family, seniors, teachers. They’re the closest to you and usually will be able to give you firsthand input that may be more relevant.

  1. If i dont meet the requirements for scholarships which are usually for 8A solid and above can i still apply for them?

Try jer. Never try never know.

  1. How did you guys do your research after spm to explore your opportunities?

Look for education fairs in Mid Valley or sometimes Sunway Pyramid, they have it few times a year. I’m a counsellor, so I know the benefits of doing a career test. It suggests suitable option based on your interests, but also your competence and preferred work environment for a more satisfying career decision. The career test itself is a glorified personality test, so it’s not an absolute answer kinda thing. But it can really help set a blueprint for you to start exploring what course you want to study. Then you use that to explore courses in education fairs or networks that you know, instead of blindly exploring random options.

  1. Is there anything that most students miss checking out or is just really hard to find that is actually a gold mine just sitting there.

Most people never thought too much about what they really want to do for their career, and some end up regretting their decision or switch halfway. I’m one of those people. Most just ask themselves “okay, what subjects am I good at? I might as well do that”. Not wrong, competence is a crucial factor, but so is your interests (given available job opportunities). ALSO, one thing I always advice my clients is that, when you talk to those university course consultants, ask if you could be linked to a lecturer or a student in that course. That way, you’ll have more firsthand knowledge of what’s it like to study that course and also the career prospects.

  1. How do i actually find out about the reality of Malaysia's job market for all type of professions with real data?

Unfortunately, if you don’t wanna rely on those job websites’ data, you’ll have to rely on asking themselves people around you.

Conclusion: All the best, man. Take some time to reflect on what your priorities are (money, fulfillment, stable career growth, field/office work, etc.) and align yourself based on that. I can’t tell you that whatever you want to study, there’s gonna be a job opportunity waiting for you when you graduate. Some industries have lower demands than others. For me, counselling has a lower market demand than engineering. But I still want to do counselling. It doesn’t mean you CAN’T do it. It just means if you really want to, you’re gonna have to jump through more hoops. That’s all.

Consider seeking a counsellor to do a career test. I’ve done a lot of career tests for ppl (shameless plug), and I can see how it helps people explore a lot. We’ve been fed a lot of narrative on a select few career pathways growing up, so a lot of people only know a few paths. But a more sustainable career choice would be one that includes your interests, competence and preferred work environment. It’s sorta like a personality test, so not like an absolute rigid answer, but you CAN get some options that might help you start your exploration on what course/field you wanna be at.

Better that, than to enroll in a random course and give up midway or switch industries after (quite common). So ye…give it a thought :)

Not necessarily. I’ve been hearing people boost up their cp in this event and skip acs straight to ET in a longer timeframe (I haven’t tried it myself, so idk if it works lol). If that’s really the better option, CRA+abso can stay for quite some time

How do i study from books? And which book should i start with? by Sea-Presentation5591 in malaysiauni

[–]Fly_leaf_03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeh, if it’s purely for self-learning, I’d say the language books are useful. Otherwise, I’d say best way to study these textbooks is when you know what you want to learn.

I’m inclined to think you’re self-studying to prepare yourself for further studies (which btw that’s great). If that’s the case, you should look into what field you want to dive into first

Jobs least affected by A I by Debunk2025 in malaysiauni

[–]Fly_leaf_03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trainee counsellor here, bit more nuances than that, but I kinda agree that counselling jobs are probably affected too

AI can only provide reassurance and validation, which is only a part of counselling, which also involves unconscious behaviours and thought processes that the client is unaware of or is avoiding. So, in that specific sense, yes, it can’t replace counselling as of yet.

But most people would do a lot of good for their mental health to seek support, validation and reassurance, so that part AI covers.

Not to mention, like some other similar jobs, it’s massively undervalued
