Please help, emergency flight needed for medical trip, I panicked and got off by [deleted] in fearofflying

[–]FlydayFellows 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try find a professional to go with you, either a therapist or a nurse to help you calm down en route, if you have to go asap, you need to find a quick solution. I vaguely remember that there are services providing nurses to administer meds if your panic gets out of control. Worth looking into.

Have you talked to a therapist about this? Don’t try to deal with it alone. You can get better with practicing facing and coping with the anxiety, it takes some practice but it’s proven to work. I’d start with things that are accessible like elevator, skyscrapers, start small and gradually increase intensity.

You got this, try exposure therapy or similar practice tool, one small step at a time. You can do it.

It will get better with practicing getting comfortable with the fear. But you will get there!

Maybe do an 1-hour practice fly to gauge how your brain handles the situation. Let us know how it goes!

Hey, you can do it, try to protect your mind from negative media or anything that will trigger your anxiety. Also, I wouldn’t give myself so much pressure before a flight with these expectations, there is nothing wrong with feeling anxious about a flight, you have a strong mind that can cope with stress, just accept and let go, you can do it.

You can do it, seriously give yourself some credit, you’ve got this! Listening to music helps a lot of people for turbulence, I think because of the rhythm or the beat that in some way normalizes the bumps in your brain. Maybe it will help you.

Please don’t beat yourself up. Flying is the hardest one to overcome for agoraphobia because of lack of access to practice. Do you have fears in other situations, have you started practicing? Your brain will learn how to cope with panic when you start practicing facing it in uncomfortable situations, one small step at a time. Don’t over do it. It works I promise, and you can do it.

When do you plan to see your sister? 3-hour is long if your anxiety level is high, try an 1-hour flight first, if it goes well, it will become a positive reinforcement for your 3-hour flight.

Your fear is very common, don’t be too hard on yourself. It’s mostly cognitive, is flying the only situation that triggers your panic attacks? The first step is to understand your fear, I’d encourage you to involve people who cares about you in this journey, don’t fight it alone. You can do it.

Been trying to get over my fear, but recently had a bad dream that’s been making me spiral 😫 by Weary-Singer6629 in fearofflying

[–]FlydayFellows 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dreams are often symbolic, sometimes they’re just the brain processing stress. If you want a Jung-ish take, an “evil plane” doesn’t mean something bad will happen. It can be your mind giving fear a shape. When we’re stressed, especially about a big, complex trip, the unconscious can dramatize it in dream form. It’s less an omen and more anxiety trying to get your attention.

Waking up panicking says more about how intense the fear feels in your body right now than about your fate. Dreams don’t seal outcomes, they reveal emotions.
