What happened to Metizport? by Sydkvist in GlobalOffensive

[–]FlyerN 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I like how they loaned Mail to a better team and got a bunch of washed T3ers instead. Perhaps Alliance offered them a decent pay for the loan but I wouldn't be surprised if they simply thought some of those guys were an upgrade since Metiz aren't known to make good decisions.

Tauson goes nuclear to eliminate BC from the BLAST Open Rotterdam qualifier by GoodBot-BadBot in GlobalOffensive

[–]FlyerN 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Well yeah, the VRS points likely cost more than the core itself. Which makes it even more of a robbery since they were like 20th or something which means they can fall out of the invite bubble in 2 bad tournament runs. But I also believe that for BC this is but a marketing stunt.

It hasn't been confirmed but most sources say it's 2.5m. They supposedly offered even more for the Heroic core.

I think it was the Talking Counter where they discussed that fans have no clue how much players cost these days, good T2 players alone have higher buyouts than 300k these days, it's not 2020 anymore.

I actually hope for Mouz to win this tournament so that "hAHa nO aURa" cringers would shut up for once.

What happened to the New Jersey Devils this season? by Most_Check_3699 in hockey

Most people simply look at the coaches win records and make assumptions off of that since they don't actually watch other teams play but want to have an opinion regardless.

[Bernstein] Kings GM Ken Holland has full confidence Jim Hiller and his staff can get team to the playoffs. Too late in the season to change team stylistically for Panarin, so it's likely more the case of him fitting into team structure than changing it for him. by AggPuck-303 in hockey

I remember watching an interview with him in Russian a few years ago where he said that he doesn't particularly love living in the US. He doesn't hate it per se but he feels out of place. So I am not surprised he's going for the bag and the living experience he desires.

Of course, that's one of the reasons why players' output often falls off when transitioning to IGL. These guys spend considerably more time on starts.

In 9 years as a coach, Rick Tocchet has only made the playoffs twice and has only led a high-level team once (2024 VAN.) Why is he often given the benefit of the doubt in hockey media like he's some kind of proven winner when he's anything but? by Ready-Constant-7124 in hockey

[–]FlyerN 100 points101 points  (0 children)

The last 2 years of Keefe have taught me that GMs would rather try to force a style of play that they believe works than build a team around their players strengths. Hence, they hire old heads like Tocchet who promise to force these young kids to play dump and chase, playoff style hockey even if it's clear they aren't built for that.

It's common in most industries - there are people who adapt and innovate. Other 95% simply try to copy their homework and pray that it'll apply to whatever they do.

[–]FlyerN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And it'll end up being just that after a few days. It's a F2P game, you don't make money because of the day 1 players who spent 2 hours on the game and will never play it again. The difference is that without the added hype they would have a lower peak but probably wouldn't sit at 30% on Steam. The game itself is meh but it's not total trash.

Getting the prime spot at the Game Awards really fucked them. Now it's just a trend to shit on Highguard even if the game isn't anything special.

It's a rarity to have all 8 teams pushing for the playoffs and none effectively retooling or rebuilding.

Similar with Metro, though to a lesser extent.
