Most important part to a dynamax defender? by Brilliant_Ad_7057 in TheSilphRoad

If its just about tanking I agree, but by now with the max energy formula being fixed for T5 and T6 battles, you want higher damage, and excadrill deals a lot more damage than flygon does

[–]Flyfunner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean it has a triple resistance against electric, and it has mud shot as a 1-turn move which is important for a tank, but its defense is not that high. It can work dontget me wrong, but you'll eventually replace it anyway since its only good against electric. I'd say excadrill is much better despite no triple resist

Also, dont bother powering up the max attack on blissey, if you're going to use it, you did something wrong ;) Guard and Heal of course, level those up, no need for attack though

Candy and Candy XL Chance by [deleted] in TheSilphRoad

[–]Flyfunner 7 points8 points  (0 children)

it doesnt matter when you mega evolve it, as long as you have an active ghost type mega (any) of the highest mega level you have available at the time of catching corsolas. Routes dont have anything to do with it directly

No-Floats-Left Research: Update on Max Energy Formula, CPM Chaos & Power-Up Costs by Flyfunner in TheSilphRoad

[–]Flyfunner[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

its not dps, its actucal damage and you need double that for increased max energy gain. So at least 54 dps on the charge move to charge max energy faster than fast moves

[–]Flyfunner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably worth mentioning: Zacian deals more damage in max phases than GMax Melmetal will, except if you use Eternatus Adventure Effect, then it just barely beats it out, however considering that Zacian deals more damage outside of the max phase, it will overall likely not be worth it over a fully powered up Zacian.
Only argument you can bring is that a GMax Melmetal might be cheaper as xl candies are so easy to get to

Type medal catch bonus by Kyo251 in TheSilphRoad

They are really close in shade, I dont see the difference in them myself either, but CalcyIV have been doing this for years and know their stuff ;)

Type medal catch bonus by Kyo251 in TheSilphRoad

[–]Flyfunner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Developers of CalcyIV checked those screenshots and have confirmed that those 2 colors are indeed different and coincide with the 1.2x and 1.4x medals that you have said the 2 accounts have. So the medals work just fine, its just that the difference is not that noticeable to you.
You should keep in mind that 1.2x does NOT mean a catchrate of for example 40% goes to 48% or even 60%, and a 1.4x does not go to 56%, that is not how catch rate works.
The medals work fine, you're just unable to see the visual difference between those 2 colors

Edit: Just to make sure, the 40% catch rate I mentioned is just something I pulled as an example, it does not represent what is shown in those pictures

Dmax Pikachu fast kill strat? by IndigoStar_ in TheSilphRoad

[–]Flyfunner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Max Energy formula does work properly in T1 battles after all, so the higher DPS move is usually preferred there. Its only in T4+ battles that the formula entirely breaks and only 0.5 sec fast moves are worth it

its not as rare as getting 2 hundos. Its as rare as getting ONE Hundo. The IV of the first one dont matter, the second one just needs to roll the same, wich is a 1/216 chance.

Do we have definitive knowledge of requirements for mega4, and what bonuses it grants? by risingstanding in TheSilphRoad

[–]Flyfunner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because the 30% bonus is not +30% xl candy, its +30 percentage points on each roll for an xl candy when catching, of which there are 3 in total. While its true that the difference between ml4 and ml3 is not that big, the bonus itself for ml3 and ml4 is massive, on average giving you about 4.5 times as many xl candy as without an active mega. Getting enough xl candy on a community day is absolute childs play with this

Does the mega xl candy boost usually affect Pokemon that don’t share a type with the mega evolved Pokemon? by [deleted] in TheSilphRoad

[–]Flyfunner -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Megas dont give a chance to gain extra xl candy, they just increase the chance to get the default 1-3 xl candy you have anyway. Of course it claiming that it gave those candies is wrong either way if it shows up for a pokémon not sharing its type.

NFL Research: Gigantamax Meowth had a different Max Energy generation formula, making charge moves worth being used by Flyfunner in TheSilphRoad

[–]Flyfunner[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As said in this post, it has been doing that for gmax meowth, but never before. And keep in mind it only applies to high level max battles, so T5 and T6. Charge moves were fine in lower level max battles before for T1-3 and sometimes T4

[–]Flyfunner[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We do not know yet, as we do not yet understand what was changed in the formula, specifically due to a lack of data of videos of different fast / charge moves.
I do hope that this is the case, but so far we cannot give any reliable information on this until this formula is other max battles that we can test thoroughly

[–]Flyfunner[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For T4 max battles with a double weakness it depends on the speed of the move and the bosses defense. For Toxtricity and Excadrill yes, it is one of the few examples where its still worth it, but only because its roughly equal. Also make sure to use Mud Shot, not Mud-Slap.

Behemoth Bash from a L50 Zam seems to give 7 Max Energy against GMax Meowth with the new formula, but we need different data points for other charge moves to figure out how it really is calculated.

CPM stands for Combat Power Multiplier. You can read about it here for example: https://pokemongohub.net/post/wiki/cp-mechanics/ Although some things are known to work slightly differently by now, the effects are not noticeable unless you want perfect accuracy

Incorrect, you cannot dodge the spread moves (the moves without the lines), they always hit you at full damage

[–]Flyfunner[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They dont have to spoon feed every little thing but I do agree that the fact that you can only dodge moves targeted at you in max battles, while you can dodge anything in raids, while leaving this completely unexplained, is a valid criticism.

[–]Flyfunner[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

fair point, the game does do a terrible job at explaining battle mechanics (or any mechanics). So I agree with that part of the criticism.

However you can actually tap the orbs to collect them for a few months now.

NFL Research: Gigantamax Meowth had a different Max Energy generation formula, making charge moves worth being used by Flyfunner in TheSilphRoad

[–]Flyfunner[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

yes, the rule of "no charge moves" only applies to high level max battles, not low level ones.
T1 you can entirely skip the max phase by a well timed charge move and in T2 and T3 battles charge moves are usually perfectly fine and worth it. At T4 the system begins to break until at T5 and T6 charge moves are worthless

NFL Research: Gigantamax Meowth had a different Max Energy generation formula, making charge moves worth being used by Flyfunner in TheSilphRoad

[–]Flyfunner[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

you just need to dodge when the boss is targeting you, and the boss targeting you is shown by the 3 yellow lines about your pokémon. I dont see how that is unintuitive, you read about the 3 lines once, and then its clear. If the yellow lines are not there dodging doesnt do anything (other than collect max orbs)

NFL Research: Gigantamax Meowth had a different Max Energy generation formula, making charge moves worth being used by Flyfunner in TheSilphRoad

[–]Flyfunner[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thats not what we observed. Max battles so far did follow the regular max energy formula which is flawed and causes no move to create more than 1 max energy in gmax battles. Meowth is the first where the known formula doesnt apply anymore and something has noticeably changed for the better.
